Naruto: Chronicles of a Fire Ninja-Chapter 401 - 396: Resolve

After confirming that all of the guards were really those same ninja, Konoha Jonin finally entered Iwa's outpost.

"Sir, this path will lead down to the area where the previous guards are resting, while this one will lead straight down the outpost. The rest are just traps," one of the guards, most likely the guard captain, took the role of guide, giving away all of the careful planning that went behind building the outpost.

The structure was very well built. If any normal attack would have happened, the array would have held long enough for the rest of the guards to reach the entrance in time and create a defensive wall till rest of the ninja came to help. Alas, now they were just sitting lambs.

"Yari1 and Yari2, take four guards with you and handle them, rest keep moving," one of the elite Jonin, now in command in the absence of both Shisui and Renjiro, gave orders. Two Jonin left the team, following four guards to the guard room while rest of the team continued their march inside the base.

The ninja who were coming out of their rooms or duties to check the commotion were first to be targeted by the squad. Since none of the alarms, neither from guards nor from the commander, were ringing, no one was actually thinking of it as an enemy attack but rather some accident with the supplies.

While the Konoha force started cleaning the base from top, Shisui also started moving up, while handling any ninja he was coming across. Still in his Juro transformation as it gave him quite a big advantage in the fight, the ninja who came across him didn't have their guard up, thinking him as an ally, giving him a perfect opportunity to handle them either with Genjutsu or direct ruthless merciless strikes to their vitals.

As Shisui was handling the base, while the attack force was handling the top, the ninja already under Shisui's Genjutsu started attacking their comrades in the center as well, attacking at the moment they would expect the least. Iwa ninja started falling like dried leaves in autumn.

The medical ninja who were supposed to heal the injured ninja moved around the base as well, delivering the final blow rather than healing the Iwa ninja. Before anyone could even understand what was happening, half of the force of Iwa which was not under Genjutsu was down.

The effect of careful selection Shisui did in choosing which ninja to make their ally could be seen when in the middle section of the outpost, four ninja under Genjutsu were attacking two Jonin. One Jonin was already injured, and the second was protecting him while fending off attacks from four Chunin, when a medical ninja came from behind.

"Heal him quick," the Jonin gave a quick order as he was about to focus on the Chunin completely, when a yelp came from behind. When he turned to see what was happening, he was horrified—the medical ninja had pierced a kunai through the heart of the injured Jonin, killing him on the spot.

"You fuckers!" the Jonin lost all of his sense in anger, releasing earth spears toward the medical ninja at his full force. The spear pierced the medical ninja in the chest, but before he could do anything else, an earth bullet pierced the Jonin's abdomen as well.

"Die you Iwa scum!" one of the Chunin who had released the bullet shouted while the rest three lunged at the Jonin with their kunai in their hands.

The Jonin in his final fight was able to take two more Chunin with him, but a question remained in his mind till the end:

'Iwa scum? Just how many spies have infiltrated our outpost?' a thought that went away with his final breath.

On the top of the outpost, those ninja who went to handle the tired guards also joined the attacking force soon. The attack was going as smooth as possible.

Two Aburame clan Jonin had already spread their bugs in all of the outpost, getting constant reports from them, while Hyuga ninja themselves were identifying any enemy coming toward their way before they could see them.

With them acting as eyes of the attack force, the attack was also pinpoint and lethal.

After reaching the first floor of the outpost, they dispersed in squads attacking any ninja on sight, slowly moving down toward the middle floor.

All while sweeping any ninja who was unlucky enough to be present in the outpost.

There were only six elite Jonin in the outpost, four in the basement, while two had their office in the middle floor. When all of this commotion happened, they tried to contact their commander. Feeling something was wrong, they tried to contact other elite Jonins present in the basement only to get the same result.

"Something is not right, should we go and check?"

"..." Yasushi was still trying to communicate with others when the array securing the outpost turned inactive all of sudden.

"Something is not right. I don't think all of this is coincidence. For now, start plan granite."

"Are you sure?"

Yasushi nodded his head, steeling his resolve, while the second ninja looked toward him for a second before running toward the basement.

While he was running toward the exit to go and get reinforcement, Yasushi went out of his office, gathered few other Jonins and went out to check what was the problem. Till now the shouts from above were painfully apparent, but when they were about to go up, they stopped seeing the carnage in front of them.

Iwa ninja were killing each other left and right.

"What the hell is happening here?" a frightened voice came from one of the Jonin following Yasushi.

"They are under some Genjutsu. Considering the scale, it could only be work of Konoha. Come, we have to bring them out of Genjutsu first," Yasushi said as he rushed forward, followed by four Jonins.

Yasushi alone with his extra muscular physique and Iron Skin Jutsu acted like a tank, taking all of the attacks from the Chunin in front of him.

Effectively bringing them out of Genjutsu, though his method was less than savory, and even when those ninja came out of Genjutsu they became unconscious, like someone had plucked out a battery from a toy.

'Tch.'

"Someone had cast Genjutsu on our ninja. Go and find out if there are more of them. We will go and see what is happening above," Yasushi said to the Jonin who had been fighting the Chunins till now. He nodded his head; even though his condition was far from fit, this was not time for complaints.

Just as Yasushi and team were about to make their way to the top floor, two squads from Konoha came down, making eye contact with Yasushi.

Seeing them entering the mid floor, Yasushi could tell that the upper floor was beyond saving.

"We will become an impenetrable wall to the enemy. Defend till our brothers join us!" Yasushi shouted, getting a resolute nod from the team.

After the entry of Konoha squad, a thick scent of blood also came from the upper floor, which just steeled the resolve of the Iwa ninja to not allow these murderers to get a single step more in the outpost.
