Chapter 265 - 264 : Sharp Kakashi!!
"Huh?"
Kakashi heard Genya's words, and some words instantly got stuck in his throat. He couldn't continue speaking.
Indeed,
The main reason he came was to question Genya about why he put Hayashi in danger.
After all, a Mokuton (Wood Style) user was incredibly rare, especially one from the Senju clan, the original Mokuton users.
There was also the matter of asking about Atsukara and the black-clad assassin. He believed Genya must know something about the assassin.
"You're not going to speak?" Genya noticed Kakashi stayed silent and simply smiled faintly.
"Looks like I was right! You're not genuinely concerned about Hayashi. If that's the case, stop pretending to have noble reasons to talk to me!"
"And... I care more about Hayashi than any of you. But this is his decision, and I respect it. If he wants to come back, I'll protect him. No one can hurt Hayashi!"
Genya spoke clearly and with intent, but his words left Kakashi feeling ashamed.
"You don't need to say it like that, Genya. I still have questions, but caring for Senju Hayashi is the truth. He's in danger right now!" Kakashi said, trying to hold his ground.
"Heh... caring for Hayashi? You probably didn't even know him before, did you? Just a few days ago, Konoha even wanted to kill him, and now you're pretending to care about him!" Genya's eyes grew cold, his expression turning to disdain.
"You only care about him because of his talent, pretending to care. There's no need for that. Kakashi, just tell me what you came here for."
"Genya, you..." Kakashi's gaze darkened. It seemed Genya had always been wary of them, even holding resentment toward the higher-ups in Konoha. Kakashi felt helpless.
"Unless there's anything else, we're leaving!" Genya said with a cold smile and continued.
He just couldn't stand people who questioned him with a sense of righteous indignation. If it weren't for Kakashi, Genya probably wouldn't have even bothered with them.
Kakashi swallowed, trying to calm his emotions. "I heard that Senju Hayashi joined Atsukara. Do you know anything about it?"
"No," Genya shook his head decisively.
Although he shook his head to deny it, there was a flicker in his eyes.
It seems that the news about Hayashi being part of Atsukara had leaked out. Konoha must have already found out as well.
"Impossible! You're Senju Hayashi's guardian. He follows your orders. How could you not know that Hayashi joined Atsukara?" Kakashi said, his voice growing more anxious after Genya's denial.
Kakashi was certain that Genya knew something but was just unwilling to say it.
"That's Hayashi's business, not mine," Genya shrugged indifferently, though he understood the situation clearly in his heart.
Kakashi had come here because of the news about Atsukara. He probably wanted to ask about Tobi, thinking that Genya, who posed as a black-clad assassin, might have information.
"Impossible!" Kakashi calmly shook his head, analyzing, "Hayashi hasn't left Konoha in years. He only goes on missions under your orders. So, you must know about Atsukara!"
"Alright, if you say I know, then I know. Is there anything else?" Genya said with a shrug, his expression turning serious. "If not, don't block the way!"
With those words, he walked straight ahead, and just as he was about to pass Kakashi, Kakashi stepped aside.
"Genya, I need to remind you of something. The higher-ups in the village are already aware of the existence of the Wood Release. They might take action soon. Keep an eye out and be careful!" Kakashi said, watching Genya leave.
Actually, when he came to find Genya, Sarutobi Hiruzen and Danzo had already prepared a second resolution. It seems they've already made their decision—likely to move against Hayashi for capture.
He knew that the people of Konoha couldn't resist the temptation of Wood Release. Neither Danzo nor the current Hokage, Sarutobi Hiruzen, would give up on it.
If that happens, Hayashi could be in danger.
Genya heard Kakashi's words, his steps slightly pausing but not saying anything, and then he continued walking.
"Genya-sama... My brother... He'll be alright, right?" Hikari whispered, gripping Genya's hand with a hint of worry in her voice.
"He'll be fine. Hayashi has his own trump cards and immense vitality. If he wants to escape, there aren't many who could stop him in the Shinobi World!" Genya said, patting Hikari's head. "Don't worry." frёeωebɳovel.com
Hikari didn't say anything more and followed Genya.
Kakashi watched Genya and Hikari leave. He stood still, his expression calm as he watched them walk farther away, until they disappeared from sight.
Only then did his expression shift, and he began making hand signs.
Boom~!!
A cloud of smoke filled the air, and a summoning beast appeared in front of him. It was his summoning ninja dog, Pakkun.
"Kakashi, what's going on? You summoned me out of nowhere," Pakkun asked, still half-asleep, yawning lazily.
"Cut the nonsense, we're on business now!" Kakashi's eyes hardened as he turned to Pakkun and said, "Pakkun, sniff around and tell me if you sense any familiar scents in the air."
"Familiar scent?" The dog face of the ninja dog Pakkun furrowed, as if sniffing the air, but then he frowned, "The scent here is too complex. Whose scent are you trying to track?"
"The assassin we chased last time, did you catch a similar scent?" Kakashi spoke slowly, recalling the shadow of the black-clad figure who defeated him that night.
This time, he wanted to use Pakkun to search for that scent.
Rather than searching, to be precise, he suspected Genya. Kakashi suspected that Genya was the assassin from his memories. Even if not, their connection should be close.
Of course, the reason he didn't directly ask Genya was because Kakashi figured that even if he did, Genya wouldn't answer.
"Ninja dog? Kakashi, do you suspect me now?" Genya, although some distance away from Kakashi, was always watching his movements. When he saw Kakashi summon the ninja dog, a smile appeared on his face.
Interesting!
He didn't expect that his identity would be the first thing Kakashi suspected.
Kakashi truly was one of the more rational people in Konoha. Heh. This was getting more interesting. I wonder what expression he'll have when he learns my true identity?
Genya smiled, and his pace quickened.
"That assassin? When we were chasing him last time, his scent was mostly covered, but there was a faint trace," Pakkun said, sniffing the air.
The more he sniffed, the more serious his expression became.
"How is it?" Kakashi asked, unable to hold back.
"It's definitely that assassin's scent, and it's very strong."
