Naruto: Journey to Reach You-Chapter 37
Chapter 37 - 37
As Sakura stepped in, she lowered her head shyly, then walked with Kushina toward the bed.
Sakura, in her thoughts:
"So this is their room... it's really beautiful."
Kushina pulled up a chair for Sakura to sit beside the bed. Naruto and Sakura kept glancing at each other awkwardly.
Suddenly, Sakura turned to Kushina and smiled. Kushina understood and said, scratching the back of her head,
"Excuse me... I'll leave you two alone. If you need anything, I'll be outside."
They both watched her leave and close the door. When Sakura looked back at Naruto, she found him staring at her curiously, clearly expecting an explanation for her visit.
She looked away, then noticed the bowl of water and cloth, along with various medicines.
"Looks like she's taking good care of you."
She placed the bag she brought next to her, wrung out the cloth, and placed it on his forehead.
"So... how are you feeling now?"
He stared at her for a while, then finally said,
"Fine."
She lowered her head in embarrassment.
"I'm really sorry for what happened to you... I feel so guilty because I'm the reason this happened. At the very least, I could have treated you—but I failed at that too."
Naruto, sarcastically:
"So what brought you here is guilt, not concern?"
Sakura, glaring:
"Of course I was worried about you! Don't twist my words, Naruto. I never said that... I only came to check on you, nothing more. Although I get the feeling it didn't make you happy at all."
Naruto, coldly:
"No, it did. Thank you for visiting."
Sakura, in her thoughts:
"This cold attitude of yours will kill me one day."
Trying to calm herself, she said,
"So... will you be okay tomorrow, or should I ask Tsunade-sama to cancel your missions?"
Naruto:
"No, no... no need to cancel anything. I'll be fine by morning."
Sakura:
"You're pushing yourself too hard. Even if you feel better, you should still take care of your health. I'll request a day off for you."
Naruto:
"I said there's no need... I'll be fine tomorrow."
She stood up angrily:
"Naruto, seriously! Stop exhausting yourself like this... don't be so stubborn. You're going to make me start another fight with you. It's like that's all we do when we see each other!"
He looked at her in surprise, then began coughing again.
Sakura, in her thoughts, regretful:
"I shouldn't have gotten angry... he's still sick. I came here determined not to argue and just to check on him. But somehow, he always finds a way to make me mad with the smallest comment... Anyway, I need to calm down these days."
She picked up the bag beside her.
"Alright, Naruto—here."
He took the bag and looked inside.
"What's this?!"
Sakura:
"It's medicine I made for you... I know Kushina is way better than me and probably has more effective stuff, but maybe you'll need it."
He looked at her for a moment as she glanced away shyly, then he smiled,
"Thank you, Sakura."
She looked at him, her face still showing frustration, but when she saw him smiling kindly, she smiled back—though still slightly annoyed.
In her mind: You idiot.
Sakura:
"Well, I should go now. Bye, Naruto."
Naruto:
"Bye."
As she headed to the door, Kushina opened it and said,
"Sorry to interrupt, but it's time for Naruto's medicine."
Sakura, smiling:
"It's okay, I was leaving anyway."
Kushina:
"Why? You can stay with us a little longer."
Sakura:
"Sorry, I just came to see Naruto... Besides, if Sasuke-kun comes back and doesn't find me, we'll probably get into another fight."
She looked at Naruto and added sharply:
"And I've had enough fights for today."
Naruto turned his gaze away from her with a sigh.
Kushina, smiling:
"Alright... as you wish."

The two girls walked to the door. Sakura left, and Kushina returned to Naruto.
When Sakura was on her way home, she found Sasuke waiting for her in front of it. He greeted her,
"Where were you?"
Sakura: "I went to see Naruto."
Sasuke: "Speaking of Naruto... this is the second time in a row you've gone on a mission without me."
Sakura: "But Naruto was with me..."
He cut her off,
"That's the only reason I didn't blow up at you. But at least let me know you're going on a mission before you go."
She smiled and said,
"Okay, Sasuke-kun. As you wish."
He smiled back,
"Alright, see you later... I'm going to check on that idiot."
She stopped him,
"No, Sasuke-kun... he's a bit sick right now. Let him rest... You can see him tomorrow."
Sasuke: "Sick?!"
Then he laughed,
"Since when does he get sick?! Alright, fine... later."
He left, and Sakura smiled as she watched him go.
"You're right, Sasuke-kun... That idiot never used to get sick."
She went into her house, up to her room, changed her clothes, and got ready for bed. As soon as her head hit the pillow and her eyes closed, a sentence echoed in her mind:
"You belong to me alone."
Her eyes shot open, and she gasped, turning quickly to look behind her—
But no one was there, unlike last night. She sat up in bed and said to herself,
"Oh god... Why am I remembering that now?! ... Why am I remembering it at all?!"
She lay back down, arms outstretched, her hair spread across the pillow, continuing,
"Who were you dreaming about... Naruto?"
After Kushina closed the door, she headed to Naruto's room. She turned off the lights, closed the door, and ran toward the bed. Just as she was about to lie down—
Naruto: "What are you doing?!"
She looked at him, confused, and after a moment of silence said,
"...Sleeping."
Naruto: "No. Not here. Go sleep in the other room."
Her eyes widened,
"Why?!"
Naruto: "Are you stupid, Kushina?! I'll infect you if you sleep beside me. Your body's weaker than mine—it won't handle it. Go now. No arguing. Sleep in the other room."
Kushina: "What if I say I'm not going?"
Naruto: "Oh, but you are going. Don't argue—I want to sleep."
She raised an eyebrow at him, then pulled back the blanket and lay on the bed anyway, hugging him tightly.
Naruto, startled: "K-Kushina!!!"
Kushina, confidently: "I told you—nothing will keep me away from you, not even illness... Besides, I can't sleep unless I'm in your arms, Naruto."
He looked at her for a moment, then smiled,
"Stubborn."
Kushina, playfully: "Just like you."
They both smiled, and she rested her head on his chest and fell asleep.
