Natural Disasters Strikes: I stockpiled like crazy!-Chapter 265: Rescue Wang Chul (1)
Over the past weeks, the base had quietly accumulated a large stock of spars. Colonel Tang could afford them without the slightest worry.
After reviewing the effects and instructions that Nanzhi had meticulously printed on each package, he even asked if there was any remaining stock.
With Weihao’s guarantee and his own experience with the frost-bane serum, he allowed himself a measure of trust.
Truthfully, beyond these preparations, he had no alternative countermeasures.
If the effects of the serum lived up to what was written on the packages, Colonel Tang felt a surge of exhilaration.
Finally, they could rescue Wang Chul without sacrificing any more lives.
His heartbeat quickened further when Weihao mentioned that another batch would arrive in five or six hours.
"Okay! Reserve all vials of the same kind!" Colonel Tang quickly instructed someone to relay his order to Lin Daxia. Then he added, almost as an afterthought, "By the way, your mother insists on joining the rescue team. Is that alright with you?"
Weihao didn’t need to think twice. Both his mother and Zhi Zhi shared the same stubborn streak. Even if he had a hundred mouths, he wouldn’t be able to dissuade them. Additionally, with Zhi Zhi’s serums available, his mother would be safer and gain valuable combat experience in the process.
After giving his consent, Colonel Tang left to find Lin Daxia. The three slots containing the products returned to their previous arrangement.
Meticulous as always, Colonel Tang ensured that the people waiting in line had no suspicions about the transaction.
Lin Daxia had her doubts. Naturally, she wouldn’t risk her life on a single vial. But when she learned that the manufacturer was the same as the frost-bane serum, she felt confident enough to proceed.
Because the supply of vials was limited, they had to reduce the number of participants on the rescue team.
At exactly 12:43, the team set off.
The water production facility they needed to reach lay within the East Pearl School District.
No sooner had Lin Daxia and the team arrived than a small swarm of mosquitoes descended upon them.
"Bzzz!"
Everyone had prepared in advance. Gas masks were already at the ready.
Before the mosquitoes reached the vehicles, several packets containing the burnable smoke repellent were thrown toward them.
Those with wind abilities manipulated the air, ensuring that the smoke completely engulfed the swarm.
Tier 0 and lower mosquitoes lost all coordination and weakly scattered.
The remaining mosquitoes pressed their attack, but the repulsive scent from the Buzzbane serum forced them to retreat.
"Bzzzzz!"
Mosquitoes swirled around like headless flies.
Lin Daxia and the others were initially skeptical, but as they watched the swarm falter and flee, their skepticism turned into elation.
They took advantage of the moment, opening vehicle windows wide and shooting down the mosquitoes with both firearms and abilities.
Bang! Bang!
Whoosh!
The combination of fire and wind created a sweeping attack. The wind twisted into furious spirals, carrying tongues of flame that swept through the swarm. With their speed reduced by twenty percent, even the fastest mosquitoes were caught in the assault.
Bzzzzz!
The first to fall were Tier 1 mosquitoes, burned in the fire.
This initial swarm had been merely a scout; Tier 2 was the highest rank present.
Though some Tier 2 mosquitoes survived, their wings and skin were badly burned, rendering them useless in flight. They were helpless as fish on a chopping board.
Lin Daxia and the team finished them quickly.
The civilians, who had braced for a grueling battle, were beaming with relief.
"Commander Lin! Colonel Tang’s insect repellant is incredible! The mosquitoes avoided us completely!"
Naturally, Lin Daxia was satisfied as well.
After harvesting the remaining spars, the team drove on toward Wang Chul’s location. 𝒻𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝘯𝘰𝑣ℯ𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝘮
Along the way, they saw the aftermath of the mutant mosquitoes’ havoc. Alien beast corpses littered the roads — sunken, bloodless, their skin and fur pocked with tiny puncture holes.
The scene confirmed their fears. These were casualties of the mutant mosquitoes.
The team encountered more swarms en route, but the serums’ effects held strong. The mosquitoes avoided them entirely.
The team did not let their guard down.
Bang! Bang!
The deeper into the East Pearl School District they traveled, the larger and more numerous the swarms became.
Some were late-stage Tier 2 or early-stage Tier 3 — formidable opponents.
But there were still only a few of them. If Colonel Tang hadn’t issued the logistics mission and these mosquitoes were left unchecked for months, the consequences would have been catastrophic. With focused firepower and ability attacks, the swarms were eliminated efficiently.
By the time Lin Daxia and the team reached the commercial building, exhaustion weighed heavily on them. Yet she couldn’t help smiling. The exhilaration of combat reminded her of the old days when she operated tanks.
That morning, Lao Song had developed a high fever. He and others had been victims of the vehicular accident the night before. Their vehicles were far less durable than military humvees. His left arm bore a deep laceration. Ma Guosheng was luckier, only minor cuts and scratches.
Lao Song groaned in his sleep.
"Hang on, Lao Song!" Ma Guosheng thought, carefully wiping his face with a damp towel.
The same scene repeated across the room: wounded but alive, resting where they could.
It was lunchtime. No one had eaten breakfast, and everyone in the water pump room was hungry.
Fortunately, Wang Chul had anticipated the need and retrieved several backpacks before jumping into the water pump room. Everyone shared the noodle soup evenly.
Most survivors had been unable to bring their supplies when escaping, making Wang Chul’s foresight all the more vital.
He handed Ma Guosheng a bottle of water and a paracetamol.
"Drink sparingly," he advised.
The water in the pump room was contaminated with green algae and unsafe to drink.
"Thank you, Commander!" Ma Guosheng said gratefully, seeing Wang Chul in a new light.
Other survivors echoed their appreciation.
Wang Chul and his team sat on the stairs, sipping noodle soup, when a sudden thudding sound interrupted them.
A beat later, something rattled the access hatch at the top of the stairs.
