Chest heaving, sweat bathed, Luke lay beside his mother, his arms wrapped around her frame as he drew her closer.

"Luke... we were ambushed this morning," Gustav said heavily as everyone turned to look at him.

Monica rushed forward and wrapped her arms around Luke.

His frown deepened. He pulled her close, one hand resting protectively on her back. "Who did it?"

"Monsters," Lex replied, his tone unusually direct despite speaking to Luke. "From the deeper forest. They killed four soldiers and three villagers."

That bluntness told Luke everything.

The situation was severe.

Luke leaned closer to his mother and whispered, "I will be back."

Monica’s grip tightened. "But..."

"Do not worry. I will not go far." He gave her a reassuring nod before gently stepping away, moving past Lex and heading toward the neighboring house.

Dart was already outside, his posture rigid and his expression grim.

"Dart? What is the situation?" Luke asked as he approached.

Dart’s face softened slightly at Luke’s presence, but the tension in his eyes remained. "A small pack of hunting wolves entered the village near dawn. They killed four men guarding the chief’s house. Those soldiers managed to take down most of the beasts, but one escaped. It killed three civilians before a mysterious figure brought it down."

"Mysterious figure?" Luke repeated.

Dart nodded. "That is what everyone is saying. Someone in a cloak, face covered. They appeared out of nowhere and slew the wolf."

Luke crossed his arms and stared ahead, his thoughts turning.
