Nightblade (Darkest night)-Chapter 184: Mayhem
"A trap..." Morgan grinned.
" Of course it's a trap, that's the entire point of ambushing and outnumbering two people, no?"
Lucian forced out a strained smile.
"No, the reason Talia can't fight is that this is a trap."
His eyes warily swept over the gathered masked figures.
"He's here somewhere, he's doing something with her mind. 𝘧𝘳𝘦ℯ𝓌𝘦𝒷𝘯𝑜𝑣𝘦𝓁.𝒸𝘰𝓂
Morgan frowned turning to the dazed girl.
Just then Talia snarled and lunged at Morgan.
"Die!"
Morgan gasped taking a step back.
His eyes narrowed in confusion.
" Die?"
Lucian moved before he did, slamming the back of Talia's head with the back of his blade.
Her eyes rolled up into her head, her mouth opening.
" I didn't want to do this,"
Lucian muttered.
Turning to Morgan, he shouted.
"One of them is a peculiar Talented, his power warps the mind. He was making her see things. I know because he tried it on me for a moment, but I managed to shake it off. So watch out for him."
" Well, that's just creepy," Morgan murmured.
There was only one small problem.
Well, calling it small was probably an understatement.
The Talented wore similar garb and masks.
The eerie similarity made it quite difficult to single out a single individual.
Morgan had to give them points for that at least.
That particular tactic was as ingenious as it was insidious..
Smiling he dashed forward, elusively moving through the throng of Talented.
No matter, if they couldn't single out a single individual, it only left one possible solution.
" I wonder, which of you degenerates would rummage through a defenseless young girl's mind…" Morgan murmured.
He jumped, leaping through the air, and landed on top of one of the broken buildings.
In the short time Cassius and the other biological type Talented had fought, their superhuman brawl had ripped through some of the ancient structures within the middle rim of Azaroth.
Rubble and fragments of concrete littered the previously pristine, well-preserved streets.
The combination of several types of Talented powers exacerbated the situation.
Large chunks of ice, lightning, and immolating streams of flames slammed into the now crumbling structures.
The Talented froze, startled by the unexpected development.
With the augmentation of umbralis, Morgan's physical strength was nothing to scoff at.
As such scaling a wall several times his height was child's play.
He grinned down at them, perched precariously on the wall's edge.
In that brief window of distraction, one of the masked figures quickly recovered regaining his wits.
The masked youth dashed forward, hurling a gust of wind at Lucian.
With a muffled shout, Lucian spun around with uncanny speed, instinctively brandishing his blades.
He crossed them, taking the attack head-on.
The Talented froze awkwardly gaping at the scion in disbelief.
The silvery blades ignited with a
shimmering brilliance, absorbing the attack.
Staring at the look of fierce determination in Lucian's eyes, he paled, awkwardly taking a step back.
" What's up with these guys? It's almost like they gave eyes in the back of their heads.
Lucian grinned.
" You, Talented, are so sure of your powers. Don't get too cocky!"
He lunged forward with a shout.
A second later, his fist slammed into the Talented's body raising him off his feet.
" How do you like that?," he hissed, his eyes blazing with fury.
" Without your powers, is this all you amount to?"
Lucian circled him, striking the back of his head with a snarl.
" Pathetic!" He spat.
With uncanny grace, he leapt flipping across an attack aimed at him from the back.
" Idiots, that was too obvious..."
He twisted midair, landing a devastating blow to the back of the startled Talented.
The Talented gathered around suddenly seemed unsure.
Lucian could see the hesitation in their eyes through the masks they wore.
"Well, come on. One, two, or all of you at the same time. It's of little consequence to me."
Morgan watched him move with a smile.
Just then, he felt a slight tingle at the back of his neck and then ducked.
An uncomfortable warmth burst through the air where he'd been standing.
His eyes widened in intrigue.
" Pyrokinetic ?"
He grinned
" interesting."
Seeing a pyrokinetic in action was certainly intriguing.
Morgan spun around on the narrow piece of ledge he was standing on then flipped, gliding gracefully to the ground.
The Talented's eyes widened in surprise at the sudden movement.
The Talented hovered in the air using the force of his flames to keep himself afloat.
With a quiet roar, Morgan pushed off the ground shooting into the air.
The pyrokinetic was slow to react.
"Bet you didn't see this coming," Morgan whispered driving his fist into the pyrokinetic's abdomen with vengeful force.
The unwitting youth gasped, his flames sputtering then going out completely.
Morgan grabbed him, arresting his fall.
With a savage grin, he spun him around using the momentum of the drop to hurl him at a group of Talented.
The human cannonball crashed into them sending them into disarray.
The stunt bought him some time, creating some much-needed space between him and the growing throng of assailants.
Even with his hands injured, he was managing relatively well.
For one, except for the Talented, whose powers granted them physical augmentation, the scions were far more gifted naturally from all the intense training they'd done.
Morgan languidly dodged the next two attacks from the Talented on the ground weaving through them with ease.
Morgan smirked.
The Talented were shaken.
Their ambush was slowly coming undone.
The small group of youths was proving to be quite the handful for them.
Morgan came to a stop breathing heavily.
Despite the pain and exhaustion, a smile lingered on his face.
"Right about now, you're probably regretting why you didn't try to negotiate with us in the first place."
The masked youth seemed unsure of themselves, staring at each other reluctantly.
Regardless of the outcome of the fight, the unexpected fight had brought him one unexpected boom.
The change wasn't all that tangible but he could sense it.
Morgan could feel it.
His control over umbralis was slowly becoming more and more refined.
The potency of the umbralis he wielded had subtly increased, and there was a subtle shift in his technique.
But almost ironically, at the same time, the strain of using it with his injured arms was slowly getting to him.
His movements were slowly becoming more and more sluggish.
A wave of pain nearly froze him in his tracks.
Morgan ducked just barely avoiding a stream of flames.
In the next moment, he dashed forward, streaking past two of the moving Talented.
He leapt into the air with a gleeful laugh.
"If you guys make this too easy…"
His fists slammed into the moving Talented's necks, momentarily choking them.
Their eyes promptly rolled into the backs of their heads.
" I can't help but oblige."
In truth, it was a little underwhelming.
Except for the psychic lurking around in the background, Morgan had expected a little more from Talented, considering the cool powers that they wielded.
Even with the handicap of his injuries, the fight still felt a tid bit too easy.
He expected that it'd be a little more…challenging.
Perhaps it was the Talented he'd been with that was a little bit too exceptional then.
He landed, staring down the remaining assailants.
The youths stared at him hesitantly.
The shock of watching one Talented after another get dispatched was probably quite jarring in itself.
Morgan fought back a grin watching the Talented circle him warily without any of them stepping forward to attack themselves.
A short distance away, several Talented were immobilized from the legs downwards, glistening blocks of crystal blue ice enveloping their legs.
The trapped Talented who were still conscious shivered nonstop.
Cassius and Emily worked in tandem.
The two made for a truly terrifying sight.
Emily's eyes were glowing with an ethereal green light, and Cassius' eyes were shining a mystical, beastly orange light.
Several clear layers of frost swept across the ground, making it slippery and unstable, the perfect battlefield for Emily, who had long grown used to the ice.
The Talented girl moved with the speed and grace of a ghostly wraith, freezing the staggering attackers in place with uncanny ease.
The hulking beast that was Cassius followed closely behind, his gleaming claws digging into the ice for grip.
The two worked flawlessly Emily freezing their attackers in place and Cassius knocking them unconscious.
The two Talented moved in a blur of fur and ice, moving across the icy part of the battlefield rapidly with near-inhuman speed.
In the next moment, Lucian screamed awkwardly falling to the ground.
Morgan spun around, then froze.
Lucian lay on the ground, his entire body trembling uncontrollably.
His eyes had rolled up into the back of his head, his face twisted vividly in agony.
"What the hell?"
Lucian's body twitched several times trembling uncontrollably, dark veins appearing on the surface.
Without a thought Morgan dashed forward, crouching next to the now unconscious boy.
He grasped him, lifting him into a sitting position.
"Luci…"
Morgan felt it before he heard it.
He moved too late.
An explosion of light and sound brutally threw him back, his body violently several times across the ground.
In the darkness after the explosion, a voice spoke coldly, the sound ringing painfully in Morgan's head.
"My, my, what do we have here?"
