Nine Nether Dragon Emperor-Chapter 300: Silly Roedeer, if you don’t want to be eaten, run away quickly!
"Young Master, are we being a bit too brutal?!" After wiping her mouth, a flushed Zhongli Ruoruo asked Ning Xuan.
Just a moment ago, the old wolf had also been roasted! This time, to let Zhongli Ruoruo feast to her heart’s content, Ning Xuan had thoughtfully extracted some of its energy. Zhongli Ruoruo had indeed indulged her cravings, but now that she had eaten her fill, the aftereffects were kicking in. As she spoke, her face was burning, and she felt dizzy as she looked at Ning Xuan with misty eyes.
"What? It’s nothing." Ning Xuan, lost in thought, glanced at Zhongli Ruoruo and grabbed her wrist to help her "sober up." At the same time, he mumbled to himself, "They say tortoises live for millennia. I wonder how old that one is... It would surely make a great nourishing soup!"
The moment she regained her senses, Zhongli Ruoruo’s mouth fell open in shock. If eating an old wolf was considered brutal, then what did that make his plan to turn the most powerful old tortoise into soup?
Coming to her senses, Zhongli Ruoruo stuck her tongue out sheepishly. I’d better not say such embarrassing things in the future. Good thing he didn’t hear me. Stealing a glance at Ning Xuan, she breathed a sigh of relief, then fell into a daze.
Oh my, how did I never notice how handsome he is! Zhongli Ruoruo, you fool! He’s your best friend’s fiancé! So what if he’s her fiancé? Can’t I just look? It’s not like I’m going to... Pfft, you shameless girl, have you no dignity?!
Her heart was a whirlwind of emotions. As she continued to dwell on these thoughts, her face turned red once more.
Ning Xuan, snapping out of his own thoughts, was momentarily stunned before grabbing her wrist again. A moment later, he looked completely baffled. "That shouldn’t be possible. I already cleared out the energy."
Zhongli Ruoruo, also regaining her composure, said weakly, "Maybe... it has penetrated deep into my very marrow?"
"Impossible! I..." Ning Xuan instinctively retorted but immediately realized what was happening. He casually let go of her, but his heart skipped a beat. This is bad. This girl has fallen for me!
He was deeply troubled. He hadn’t done anything at all! So why...? Alas, my ridiculously good looks! he could only lament inwardly.
「Meanwhile.」
In the depths of the estate, an upright snail running like the wind tripped over a threshold. It scrambled to its feet and rushed inside.
"How did it go?" the old tortoise within asked impatiently before the snail could even speak.
"It... it was roasted... roasted!" the snail gasped for air. It added with a lingering shudder of fear, "That damned Human Slave even spotted me! Thankfully, I can revert to my ancestral form, otherwise I never would have made it back!"
The old tortoise hadn’t heard a word it said. He was pacing the room with a grave expression. After a moment, he declared, "Hurry and fetch the old goat! On second thought, I’ll go myself!"
Sensing that something was terribly wrong, the old tortoise vanished on the spot.
"Wait for me!" the snail shrieked, scrambling after him.
The old wolf had been one of the estate’s stewards and was incredibly powerful. If he had been roasted and eaten, and now the boss was leaving, its fate would surely be grim if that Human Slave went on a rampage. The thought alone nearly brought it to tears.
In the shadows, many of the estate’s bipedal beasts were already fleeing. The braver among them even paused to pack their valuables.
"Where are you off to in such a hurry?" one of the less-informed beasts asked, grabbing another who was fleeing.
"Running for my life, of course!"
"What? Running? Did I hear you right?" The beast that asked was stunned, looking at the other as if it were an idiot. There was no safer place in the entire city! This one wanted to run away? It had to be out of its mind.
"You silly roe deer, you’d better run too if you don’t want to be eaten!" the other creature said, shaking free and bolting.
"Eaten? Has he gone mad?" The roe deer refused to believe it. However, it wasn’t long before it learned the truth from the chattering of more and more beasts. Then, it ran faster than a dog.
In an instant, the entire estate was thrown into complete chaos.
「A little under an hour later.」
"That’s strange. Why haven’t we seen a single bipedal beast?"
"Young Master, could someone have invaded? Look at the mess everywhere!"
Having waited in vain for more bipedal beasts to appear, Ning Xuan and Zhongli Ruoruo decided to take the initiative. Yet, as they walked from the back gardens to the front hall, they didn’t see a single soul. Ning Xuan was puzzled, but Zhongli Ruoruo, looking around, ventured a bold guess.
"We can’t rule out that possibility," Ning Xuan conceded, though he knew it wasn’t the case. There were no signs of a fight. It was as if these bipedal beasts had caught wind of something and simply fled.
"This is great! We finally have company! I hope it’s Yi Yi and the others. We could share all this delicious food with them," Zhongli Ruoruo said, her eyes filled with joyful anticipation.
Not having the heart to shatter her dream, Ning Xuan simply nodded and changed the subject. "Let’s hurry and look for Divine Crystals. If the old goat’s place had enough to build a courtyard, this old tortoise must have plenty."
"We can’t look here. We need to go somewhere else," Zhongli Ruoruo immediately agreed, knowing exactly why. In the eyes of the bipedal beasts, Divine Crystals were garbage. The most likely place to find them would be in what they considered a filthy dumping ground.
Soon enough, the two stood before a veritable mountain.
"This... this is an outrageous waste of heavenly treasures!" Although Zhongli Ruoruo had said it before, she couldn’t help but repeat herself at the sight. Divine Crystals, tossed away like trash and piled into a mountain—what else could you call it?
Ning Xuan had a more muted reaction, simply beginning to collect them into his Stele Forest. He didn’t need them for cultivation at the moment. Thanks to the previous crystals and the two feasts, he had already reached the Eighth Layer Heavens of the King Realm! For now, that level of cultivation was sufficient in the Tianyang Realm.
Suddenly, a thought struck him.
Holy shit, no way! The beasts have all fled... could it be because of us?!
"What is it?" Zhongli Ruoruo went on high alert, but seeing no danger, she asked Ning Xuan with surprise and concern. It was rare to see him react so strongly.
"I have a theory, but I can’t be sure. Come on, let’s go test it."
Ning Xuan started to turn, then froze. Zhongli Ruoruo had reached her hand out toward him.
Realizing her gaffe, she reacted with incredible speed. "Cough, cough. It’s nothing. Just a bit of dust. It’s gone now," she said, patting the imaginary "dust" from his clothes.
