No One Will Ever Hurt You Again I Promise-Chapter 49: Something Is Wrong
In the waiting room, Bravael is pacing, impatient to end this story once and for all because he has much more exciting plans than being lectured by the principal. But what annoys him more is that he is the first to be there among all those summoned to the Oval Office.
"Maybe I overdid it by driving so fast," he mumbles, but that doesn’t explain why they aren’t there yet, he complains, sulking a bit. "And why does the meeting have to be at precisely the first hour in the morning?" He rechecks his watch time, again and again, making bad blood for nothing each time he looks at it. He is just excited and anxious about his meeting with Bravael at the same time.
The twins, who so far have never argued, find themselves in the most significant impasse of their lives.
When they found out about their dysfunction, they didn’t know how to handle the situation since they didn’t know what happened to them either. This means that they grudge Theo, who hit them, and then they have no idea how it happened.
Without their complicity, they became weird, and tension arose between them. They promised each other never to let anything or anyone interfere in their relationship. Now they’re wondering how to deal with losing the thing that made them unique. How can they pretend that everything is fine as before?
" You don’t have to take your car either, Aike. One will be enough; everyone will know that something has happened. You forget how curious our classmates are. They’ll ask us a bunch of questions until we can’t do anything but tell them the truth. Is that what you want? We don’t need to expose ourselves like this. " Ayke tried so hard to put some sense into his brother’s head, who has been mad at him for no reason since they found out about their bond.
" And Howie, what did you think of him? We won’t even have to tell him. He’ll figure it out on his own, so I don’t have to pretend, and it doesn’t matter that the others ask us questions. We don’t have to answer them. We each drive our own cars, period; after all, it’s time for us to take a break from each other. "
"A break, why?" Ayke yelled, horrified by his brother’s words. How could he say something like that without blanking?
"But why?" he continued glaring at his brother’s expressionless face. " I don’t need it. I just want my brother to stay like before, nothing more. Why would I need a break from my dearest person, huh? Do you mind explaining it to me? We only lost our link, but I’m sure it will come back, so let’s stay as before. And mom, are you no longer afraid she will overcome us during this story by taking advantage of this situation? "
" Leave her out of this and protect each other like we always do." And no, I’m not scared of her, and it’s too late for us to do anything to restore it anyway. What will happen will happen anyway since the damage is already done. We are no longer the same; we lost; she won as always. That’s what she always wanted, right? " His brother retorted in a flat tone devoid of emotion.
Don’t say that, Ike. There’s always hope. We’re the ones who built and shaped our connection; we can fix it. Anything we want, we’ll get it because we are like this; it’s us two against the rest of the world. Do you remember Ike? Ayke pleaded back. He was determined to not let Aike give up on them just because they lost their bond. They are who they are, with or without their weird link.
" It’s just the two of us, so nothing is impossible between us. We’re not going to give up on us and let others win; come on, little brother, let’s get to school together as always. I’m scared just because someone can comment on our duet. I don’t want us to change. I refuse to be separated like this from you."
" We’re already different, and we’re not like before; we’ve lost everything that made us who we were; we don’t have it anymore. What more do you want to understand that we’re not the same anymore? " Aike asked him in a calm voice. That seemed scary for his brother. Normally, he is the shy and sweet type who never gets angry and easily shows his emotions, but now he is different.
" What do you want, Ayke, that our faces are also different so that you can understand?" Is that right? That we dress differently, huh? But don’t worry, bro, it’s all coming. Just give me some time to sort it out. To begin with, I want another car color, the red Ferrari; you can keep it. I’m going to change mine to a black one, so at least you’ll understand that we’re not the same anymore. "
" No, no, that’s not what I want." He had that feeling that his brother wanted to hurt him to get rid of his own pain, so he kept "talking" with him by keeping his cool. " We’re keeping the cars and everything we have, and we’re not going to change anything. We must stop getting in our heads; it’s not us. Please don’t make the situation more complicated than it is already. In the meantime, I will concentrate on how to fix all this. "
" Ayke, you have to put in your head once and for all that the "us before" you’re talking about flew away with the disappearance of our bond. This is us now; put it in your mind for once. He almost yelled at him this time, then he whispered to himself, "Maybe it’s a good thing after all." Who knows, hmm? "
" Who knows? Ayke replies with a sigh, but promise me one thing, bro, just one thing please, will you? "
" What is it again? "
" Promise me we’ll stay friends." I don’t want us bickering over things that don’t deserve it, and there won’t be any other changes besides what we’ve already lost. "
" You are way too sentimental, my brother, but yes, I can promise you this for now, but it won’t last long. If we have to change everything, we will change it. I don’t want to wait forever for a miracle if we can’t get back to our previous pace. Do you understand? "
"Yes, I understand, but give us time to find ourselves." Don’t rush things; we’re going to go slowly so as not to rush nature. Sometimes when we want something blindly, we miss exciting things without seeing them, and worse still, we can’t find what we are looking for. Are you ready to wait with me, Ike? "
"We will see that," Aike replies, looking away. He was sad and devastated by his discovery. He never expected that one day he would find himself in such a situation. He was convinced the person who would manage to hurt them by separating was their mother if they let her.
Despite their inhuman effort to keep and protect what they have, they still lost it without even knowing how it happened. But if there’s anything that hasn’t entirely gone away, it’s their shared emotions.
He feels the fear of his brother, the dread that overwhelms him at the thought of losing his brother forever, and he doesn’t want that either. He does not want to lose any more of their complicity, apart from what is already gone.
" It’s OK, we stay united, but I still keep my car." He replied with a little joy in his voice. " I no longer change the color, and as usual, you take care of what we wear." Even if you have to come to my room to take care of it yourself each time. "
"Yippee!" Ayke let out a sigh of relief, and the weight he felt on his chest disappeared. "I completely agree with everything you said, and I don’t care about coming to your room ten thousand times a day to choose your clothes."
" After all, it’s a bit like what I did before. Sometimes you pretend not to see what I’m telling you, and those times I had to come and do it myself, so it didn’t change my routine. I am even happy to take care of it. "
The grumpy looks they had for a while disappeared; they were now all smiles, and the watery eyes let out the untold tears. They hug each other for a minute or two in each other’s arms, kissing each other’s cheeks and neck out of happiness.
" One more thing," Ayke said, with his head buried in the crook of his brother’s neck. " What now? " His brother asked him in a weary tone.
" Hey, please don’t take that tone with me. I’m not a bother, ok? It’s important. We have to make one last promise. What do you say?
" Oh no, not that. We already promised something; look what happened, so I’m on guard. "
" Hey! Stop making your baby, pinky promises. Let’s go, big boy, a little effort. And I think it would also be an excellent thing to...
Hey, boys!
They look at each other with questions in their eyes before asking in chorus.
"What does he want? "Aren’t we busy enough like this? " Then they look at each other before bursting out laughing.
"At least there’s something left for us," Ayke whispered. "Yeah, something at least," Aike muttered back calmly.
They gave each other a look that said a lot, with a hint of tenderness and sadness, their emotions intertwined and confused at the same time. They wonder if they are sad or if they are relieved that there is something that remains intact in their habits. Then Aike pulled his brother into a hug. He hugged him so tight the other had tears streaming down his cheeks. He knew what this hug meant to his brother. He knew this wordless language and it made him emotional. "This idiot will kill me if he continues with these kinds of gestures," he murmurs happily. This is Aike’s strong point; speaking with gestures that leave you speechless and his eyes without saying anything.
