Chapter 51: The Damn Slap Of Is Life

In the principal’s office, everything is quiet. Although Celine, the principal, arrived late for the first time in her life, Lucian called to tell her about Maryse’s unexpected arrival at her little summons. To prevent that, she is preparing to face a storm with the right weapons and protect the boys at the same time.

He knows that Celine’s great power lies in her way of doing things, her way of seeing and communicating with people and that he can entrust his boys to her with his eyes closed. She would watch over them as if they were hers.

The nervous sound of heels on the floor was already indicating to the boys that this morning’s situation, which was supposed to be the subject of warning, would not be anymore. When they noticed that the shoes which let off steam furiously on the floor were those of Mrs. Morgan, their principal.

They’d never seen her so nervous, so their conclusion was unambiguous. They couldn’t finish their little chat between them... They glanced around them wonderingly, without formulating their worries or answering them with silent shoulder motions. They waited another minute before she ordered them to join her.

The twins couldn’t tell the boys that their mother might burst into the meeting at any moment. Aike was far too intrigued by his brother’s behavior towards Howie, and his brother was too caught up in his thoughts and contemplation of the latest arrival.

When they crossed the threshold of the door to the Oval Office, Celine was pacing in her office like a caged lion. She is always so elegant in her suits, but she looked a little off this morning.

She paused to look them up and down with a neatly manicured hand on her slender hip. She nodded with a sigh, seeing the worried faces the boys made.

"Don’t you think you’re exaggerating a bit?" She muttered harshly. And that long-faced Howie... why did you get it, hm? I should have had this face, but not you. And you two, how did you put yourselves in such a situation? Why didn’t you let them fight or kill each other as they wanted? "

" Did you know your mother is on her way? And I believed my day would be marvelous after having stuck two weeks of punishment on all five of you without exception. Because you did this shit together. "

" Did you at least know how much I worked my ass off to keep you here, Howie, huh? How did I kill myself to keep your place in this school since you were admitted here? "

"Those spoiled brats have complained to their parents because you ignore them when they speak to you." They always say and report everything to their stupid parents for anything, just because you’re a scholar and behave like the world’s king with them. "

She hardly speaks, but now she is yelling at them and knows how to use words cleverly. She only uses swear words, completely forgetting her role in this establishment.

"Every day, I get phone calls, emails, and letters just because a child complained about your almighty behavior. I often wonder why I bother getting the attention of someone who doesn’t want you. But I’ve never put it that way in front of their parents. And you know what, big guy, fuck them all. She laughed hysterically after those words."

The boys started to look even more worriedly at each other. "The principal has lost her mind." They all said it mentally without uttering a single word for fear of upsetting her even more.

" But today, it’s different and very complicated because someone has taken the liberty of sending a video of you beating the twins to death. What is this all about? Who took a right to make such a video? "

"What?" The boys respond in chorus, without Howie, who just snuck over to a chair where he sits. He’s tired of all this bullshit and damned emotions overwhelming him.

He’s not ready to drag himself into another bullshit drama just because someone messes with him. He is tired of all this, of having to put up with other people’s stupidity and bow to their needs. And he then, who will bow to his needs? He walked away to calm the cauldron hissing within him. He has many more important things to worry about instead of all that.

He really doesn’t want to break his head over these ridiculous games, nor the state of mind it takes to play the pretty hearts without losing control. So, he should get away from all this tension to empty his head. And forget he’s in a meeting room where his principal starts using words they’re not allowed to whisper.

In other circumstances, he would have been delighted to witness Celine’s outburst. Still, today is not a good day for him. The slightest annoyance can create a cataclysm, and with all these children around, the scene will not take two seconds to turn into a nightmare, and he has no room for error. He must do everything in his power to keep the beasts within him away from any contagious excitement.

"No, but no, it’s nonsense." "Madam, you knew better than us that H would never do such a thing." The twins and El shouted simultaneously.

Theo intervened, raising his voice a little to drown out the others. "It’s true, ma’am, if there’s anyone guilty of this whole thing, it’s me and no one else." He was standing away from the small group that hadn’t had time to sit down since they crossed the threshold of the office, where Celine was waiting for them, standing herself.

Celine listened to them defend Howie one after the other, then all together, their voices rose in the room like an unbearable buzz, and then she decided to speak again before this buzz did not make her lose her head for real this time. She expected them to want to protect him. He’s not a bad kid, after all. He’s just a nuisance when it’s his day.

"Who told you I believed it?" She intervened, cutting off their protest. "I know he won’t. Howie can have all the trouble, but he’s never been aggressive or violent with anyone. So obviously, I didn’t believe it, which means that my intuition about surveillance cameras was good after all, and someone was having fun playing with them."

"I must find this prankster as soon as possible and make them pay. I bet you know this culprit, who is playing with my nerves. If I have all these cameras here, it is to monitor you and for your safety. I cooked Rapha and Elie this morning to snatch it from them; they don’t say a word; frankly, I envy your complicity, but here I am, not the enemy. Did you understand that?

They don’t say a single word; they just look away, avoiding her menacing gaze. They want to settle this story in their own way. So for them, there is no question that Celine learns it so quickly. Otherwise, they will not have their little talk with Todd and Hugg.

They had promised not to say anything about the cameras. They would pretend they didn’t know anything about it. As Celine understood they would not tell her anything, she resumed talking.

"Well, if you want to keep quiet too, let me tell you one thing, gentlemen. "Your friend here," she pointed to Howie sitting away from them within his own universe, which seemed to avoid them deliberately.

"At least you know what that means. He will be expelled indefinitely, and the culprit will probably stay out of all this shit. Is that what you want? Why not expose the real culprits once and for all? "

Mrs. Morgane, do you understand us too?" El asked, who kept throwing worried glances at Howie while speaking. "We understand what you’re saying, but Howie has nothing to do with this story."

He was far too calm. He didn’t like that at all. After this weekend he has just spent, it’s not the time for him to find himself confronted with such tension around him that can get on his nerves.

" He has nothing to do with any of that. He has only ended the murderous madness of these two savages as we have tried on our side. If someone has any video of him doing anything, it’s pure editing, and someone who wants to hurt him, nothing more. It only concerns the four of us," Ayke intervened.

"I see that..."

She couldn’t finish her sentence when the door flew open to let in a devilish Maryse like never before. On her face, it is written that she is there for only one good reason: to look for trouble and nothing good.

"Ah, Maryse, here you are, even if you weren’t invited anyway... intervenes Celine, who hastened to meet her, jostling the boys a little on the way.

But the latter didn’t even glance at her. She scanned the room, looking for someone or something in particular.

When she recognized the boy with the long hair tied in a bun in the video she received, she walked straight toward him. Without hesitation, she slapped him twice without taking a breath or giving him time to understand what was happening to him under the petrified gazes of the other room occupants.

"Mother!" The twins shouted but didn’t have time to prevent the impossible from happening. Red, with anger, rushed towards Howie, who hadn’t even realized yet that he had just been slapped twice by a kind of cantankerous egocentric madwoman.

" What is your problem?" Yelled El angrily. "Who do you think you are to raise your filthy paws on him and his face at that?" 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝙚𝙬𝓮𝙗𝒏𝙤𝒗𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝒐𝓶

If El hadn’t received an education forbidding him to raise his hand on older people, he would have already given back those two slaps to Maryse without hesitation. His anger is comparable to a mother hen facing her chicks in danger.

Theo and the boys all rush toward them while Celine, on her side, tries to come back from her shock. Certainly, Maryse thinks she is above everything, but she never believed that she was able to react so stupidly to a quarrel between kids. She really overstepped her bounds this time.

Howie, on his side, begins to come out little by little from his waking dream. He had taken refuge in his cave to get away from all the excitement and noise surrounding him. But the howling of his inner being in his head ultimately brought him out of his refuge, and the searing burn on his cheeks surprised him.

He touched his cheeks, bruised by the slaps Maryse gave him before he understood what El was talking about with such agitation, anger, vigor, and aggression. He looked at them in turn, caressing his cheeks while the other was throwing a tantrum in his head.
