No Substitutes for the Bigshots' Dream Girl Anymore!-Chapter 1884: Hayes Edwards Extra (41)
It wasn’t until the sun was at its fullest in the afternoon that the adults suggested going back.
During the nearly week-long trip, Mother Edwards had taken many photos along the way, almost all of them were of Hayes Edwards and Grace Winter together, saying she wanted to capture their childhood.
"When you grow up and look back together, reminiscing about your childhood, it’ll be wonderful," Mother Edwards sighed as she admired the photos.
Hayes Edwards couldn’t quite understand this idea, so he simply ran to the balcony to watch the stars.
They were going back tomorrow, and the day after would be Monday.
The balcony door was open, so he could still hear the sounds coming from the living room.
"Look at how good Hayes and Grace’s relationship is, growing up together, studying together, if someday they..."
End up what?
Hayes Edwards didn’t listen further, sitting on a chair playing games, when a thought suddenly flashed through his mind.
If Grace Winter really stuck with him from elementary school, through middle school, high school, and even college...
Just imagining it... how did he end up with such a little shadow!
So annoying!
So annoying that he didn’t even feel like playing games!
"Hayes Edwards."
The night brought a breeze, carrying a soft and gentle voice.
Hayes Edwards snapped out of his thoughts, instinctively looking to the side, and then met a pair of pitch-black eyes in the dim light.
He was startled, almost falling out of the chair.
"Grace Winter, what are you doing there!"
Grace Winter was squatting on the balcony, holding onto the railing, with her head resting between two railings, her smile was sweet but a bit eerie in the night.
"I’ve been here for a while now."
The balconies of the two rooms faced each other, so Grace Winter often stayed on the balcony, making it convenient to chat with Hayes Edwards.
Most of the time she would squat, waiting for Hayes Edwards to appear.
Hayes Edwards regained his composure and walked to the railing.
Grace Winter also slowly stood up along with him.
"What are you looking for me for?" Hayes Edwards spoke first.
Grace Winter looked at him, and after a moment diverted her gaze, fiddling with her hands, "Hayes Edwards, are we going back tomorrow?"
"Yeah," Hayes Edwards replied, then added, "Don’t you want to go back?"
Grace Winter hesitated for a moment, "A little."
She extended her fingers to indicate just a tiny bit, having greatly anticipated this trip and started looking forward to it ever since the holiday began.
Only she hadn’t expected time to fly by so quickly.
Almost like it disappeared in the blink of an eye.
Hayes Edwards snorted, "If you don’t want to go back, you can stay here, then."
Grace Winter looked up, "Really?"
Hayes Edwards hadn’t expected her to be so easily teased, so he went along with it, "Yeah, stay here, earn your own living, when hungry go to the sea to catch some shrimp and crabs, and if you can’t catch any, sleep on the streets with an empty stomach, perhaps if you meet a kind person they’ll feel sorry for you and give you fifty cents or a dollar..."
As Grace Winter listened, her eyes reddened.
Yet Hayes Edwards hadn’t noticed and continued talking, even mentioning digging through trash cans for leftover mantou.
Ultimately succeeding in scaring Grace Winter to tears.
"I don’t want to stay here! I want to go home! Go home!"
Tears flowed as if they were free of charge.
Hayes Edwards: "..."
In a moment of realization, he foresaw his own fate.
The outcome, of course, was that Hayes Edwards got his butt smacked again.
Indeed, he still disliked this little shadow.
Monday’s class had a flag-raising ceremony; each week’s flag-bearers comprised four students, one from each class, chosen by teachers.
