Chapter 656: Chapter 654: Lonely Patient [1st Update]

He furrowed his brows, opened the last text message Sophia sent him, but wondered if he had gone too far?

Until everyone left, Sophia never showed up. After dinner, Christopher wasn’t happier because she wasn’t there. Instead, he was calmer than usual, spoke less, and smiled less.

Even when he got home, he couldn’t get rid of the image of Sophia talking to him a few days ago.

It was then that he suddenly realized that Sophia had changed a lot, matured significantly, and become much more sensible.

In the living room, Christopher lazily threw his phone on the sofa, lay down on it wearily, and found himself with an inexplicable sense of loss, feeling emptiness in his heart.

This emotion had been lingering for a few days, and Christopher hadn’t paid much attention to it; today, it felt heavier.

He lifted his right hand, scratched his head, trying to find the reason for his low mood, but his thoughts kept lingering on memories of Sophia.

Unintentionally, the person he recalled was always Sophia, remembering how she always hid in a corner, secretly watching him, and how she unfailingly sent him three messages a day.

Now that these messages had suddenly stopped, it was as if Christopher’s life’s focus had been pulled away.

It was then that he realized, even though he despised receiving Sophia’s messages, he couldn’t deny that he also looked forward to them.

If that weren’t the case, why would he feel this inexplicable loss? After all, nothing had changed in his life except for Sophia’s sudden absence, and nothing else was worth his sadness.

Christopher felt he must be crazy, how could he let Sophia disrupt his thoughts?

Didn’t he hate that woman the most? Now that she didn’t bother him anymore, he should be happy, right? Why let her affect his mood? Even if she had cultivated a bad habit in him over the past year and a half, quitting that bad habit should be natural, so why be sad?

So, he suddenly stood up from the sofa, walked leisurely into the study, turned on the computer, and played a game he hadn’t touched in a long time.

In the quiet house, as Christopher listened to the game sounds, he felt the house was lifeless, lacking the feel of home, and so quiet it was scary, making him feel lonely, and he couldn’t muster any interest in the game.

Halfway through the game, Christopher grew bored, furrowed his brows tightly, and forcibly exited it.

He glanced at the time at the bottom right of the computer, it was already 11:08 PM, but Christopher wasn’t sleepy at all, his mood still low.

He took a deep breath, grabbed the phone beside the mouse, quickly stood up from the chair, and then walked towards the living room, heading for the entrance.

Staying at home was too boring for him, so he planned to go to a bar to hang out, and maybe catch a fling to dispel his loneliness.

However, when he reached the entrance to change his shoes, his body paused again, sitting on the bench beside him, staring stupidly at the wall opposite, because he suddenly felt going to the bar was meaningless, even though many women’s images flashed in his mind, he had no interest at all, so he dismissed the idea.

Christopher, sitting on the bench, furrowed his brows tightly, unconsciously picked up the phone again, which was still empty with no message notifications.

He even had an impulse to call Sophia and ask what she meant by not attending the dinner?

But knowing it would be unnecessary to do so, he forcefully suppressed the impulse.

In the end, to escape this feeling of emptiness, he drove back to his parents’ villa.

Since Christopher rarely returned home, even though he arrived home quite late, it still caused quite a stir.

Madam Scott saw her son return, hurriedly got out of bed, and then instructed the maid to prepare a late-night snack for Christopher.

On the living room sofa, Christopher turned on all the lights and the TV, only then did he feel the house had a bit of liveliness.

Seeing him glum, Madam Scott sat down right next to him, concerned, and asked, "Son, why are you unhappy? Is it a problem at work?"

"Mom, I’m fine, you should go to sleep!"

"Fine? Then why would you come home in the middle of the night? What happened? Tell mom, and she’ll help you figure it out." Madam Scott immediately noticed Christopher’s unhappiness.

Listening to Madam Scott’s questions, Christopher furrowed his brows, staring at her, hesitated several times about how to speak up. How could he admit that he felt lonely and had come home seeking warmth? His mother would surely laugh.

So, he unexpectedly said, "Mom, I’m moving back here for a while."

In his state, Christopher really didn’t want to live alone in the apartment. The feeling of loneliness frightened him; staying at home, although Madam Scott would nag him, he wouldn’t feel lonely! Plus, with plenty of servants at home, people walking around, it felt much livelier.

"Are you serious, or joking with mom?" Christopher’s decision left Madam Scott dumbfounded.

Since he moved out at 20, he rarely stayed overnight at home except during New Year and festivals. His sudden decision to move back home greatly surprised her.

But after the surprise, Madam Scott felt something was off as it didn’t match her son’s character and even had a bad premonition.

So, she cautiously asked, "Son, are you unwell somewhere and want to stay home for mom to take care of you?"

Christopher’s unusual behavior made Madam Scott suspect he might have some illness, and maybe even terminal, hence moving back to spend time with them.

Thinking of this made Madam Scott’s eyes red; she thought if that were true, she wouldn’t want to live either.

Understanding what Madam Scott was thinking, Christopher saw her eyes redden instantaneously, found it both funny and annoying, and quickly wiped her tears to comfort her: "Mom, don’t overthink, I’m not sick at all, just feeling it’s too quiet living alone, so I’m moving back."

"..." Christopher’s explanation left Madam Scott speechless.

If she heard correctly, her son said he felt lonely, so he’s moving back. Clearly, he just wants a home, a home of his own.

Madam Scott narrowed her eyes slightly, scrutinized Christopher, and took the opportunity to say, "Son, you’re no longer young, you should have a woman by your side, or it will be too lonely. I think Sophia is quite good; she’s pretty, gentle, and deeply loves you. You should consider it!"

Madam Scott adored Sophia from head to toe and had said many good things about her in front of Christopher, but he was impervious to advice, and she was helpless.

Hearing the name Sophia, Christopher’s heart suddenly jolted. All at once, he found the name so unfamiliar, as if he had never known her.

But at the same time, he felt it was so familiar, as if she was the most important person in his life.

Yet, there was nothing between them.
