Obtaining Legendray Dragon Template At The Start As A Side-Character!-Chapter 37: Three Days Of Training ( Finale )
Like yesterday, this morning all members of Reinh’s group were forced to run one full lap around the entire training ground, spend one hour on stretching exercises, and one hour on weapon practice.
Today was the last day of training. Unlike the first day, when excitement and stress were both present, today the faces of the participants showed only stress.
Reinh stood in a corner, supervising their practice. Cerdik had not arrived yet, and he could somewhat guess the reason why.
’So this is the human who sent those guys last night?’ Arceus, sitting on his shoulder, followed Reinh’s line of sight and focused on Julian.
Since the morning Julian had arrived, his expression was different from other days. Hatred was deep in his eyes, but on the surface fear could be seen.
Arceus could also tell with one look that something was wrong with that human child, and since Reinh occasionally glanced at him and intimidated him more, it was clear that he was probably responsible for last night’s incident.
"Hey, why isn’t this big guy training with us? What good is he anyway?" After the warm-up ended, Selen came toward him, gesturing at Aaron, who was sitting next to him like a king.
"Hey hey, I’m too strong for you all, so if I train with you, you will lose hope and maybe kill yourselves from the shame of how weak you are. That’s why I stay here," Aaron answered proudly before Reinh could say anything.
"If you don’t shut your mouth, I’ll break all your teeth," Selen said angrily.
Feeling danger, Aaron immediately moved behind Reinh, stuck out his tongue, and began mocking her.
"He will show his worth in time," Reinh ignored both of them and replied calmly.
Selen grunted and returned to her group. Now that their leader had spoken, they naturally could not say anything.
"Sorry I’m a bit late today," at that moment a middle-aged man’s authoritative voice was heard. Cerdik had finally arrived.
"Oh, Sir Cerdik, where were you?" Aaron moved around Reinh and asked curiously.
"A problem came up that I had to handle," Cerdik replied.
"Eye blinded?" Reinh added sarcastically.
"How do you know? Wait... could it be? No... impossible," Cerdik thought for a moment that perhaps the blinding of the rookie knight’s eye was the fault of this boy, but he immediately dismissed the idea.
Impossible. A twelve-year-old child who cannot use mana cannot blind a two-ring mana user, right?
Reinh said nothing. Even if he had said something, no one would believe it. His power was too unbelievable for his age, especially since he had no special innate talent, or at least he had not shown it to anyone.
"Anyway, everyone gather here," Cerdik changed the topic and shouted loudly.
In less than a few seconds, all present gathered around them and saluted one by one.
"This is your group leader’s sign," he said, taking a bracelet with the Clan symbol from his pocket and giving it to Reinh.
"The bearer of this bracelet is officially the leader of your group. Does anyone have a problem with him being the leader?"
No one raised their hand in protest or even opened their mouth. First, they were afraid. Second, over the past two days, by following Reinh’s orders and training, they had really improved.
Most importantly, they believed in his power. They knew that by following him, they could definitely achieve a high position in the trial and perhaps even become the top group.
"Good, now let’s go to today’s training." Reinh put on the bracelet and then went straight to explain the individual training for today.
"Each of the five groups must protect their commander from me. If the commander dies, your group will lose."
This was the second phase of the three-group phases in this generation’s trial, at least according to his past memories.
"Wait? Dies? You want to kill us?" Selen suddenly asked.
"No, I mean unconscious," Reinh corrected the word he had used.
Everyone breathed a sigh of relief, although Reinh’s tone did not sound like he was joking or had made a mistake.
One group got ready and took up their weapons while the other groups stepped back. Naturally, the first group was Selen’s group.
"Start." Reinh did not even change his stance.
A moment of silence, then—
"Defense circle!" one of the group members shouted.
Four in front, shields up. Spearmen further back. Three on the sides for counterattack, and Selen in the middle, low and ready to move.
The formation was perfect, coordinated, and clearly unlike yesterday, not chaotic. It seemed yesterday’s experiences had taught them something.
Reinh took a step. Only one step, but that step was like a stone falling in water. A wave of fear spread through the front line.
The first spearman attacked and struck directly at Reinh’s chest.
Clang!
Reinh’s wooden sword moved only slightly upward. The spear was deflected. The same motion continued, and the hilt struck the attacker’s throat.
The boy fell silently. Before his body even touched the ground, Reinh was inside the circle.
"Left! Left!" someone shouted.
Two swords came from the sides. Reinh did not turn and only moved his wrists.
One sword hit the ground. The other was stopped by his knee. Then two quick strikes to the stomach and shoulder landed.
Two others were out of the fight.
Selen jumped back.
"Stay tight! Don’t give distance!" she moved herself, quickly approaching from a blind angle.
Her dagger went toward Reinh’s side, but Reinh seemed to have eyes on the back of his head.
His heel came back and landed right in front of Selen’s foot. Her balance was broken. Her dagger only touched Reinh’s clothing.
"Good, it seems you really did the exercises I told you," Reinh turned, his gaze on Selen.
Although his cold look made her shiver.
Three people put themselves between him and Selen.
"Commander, back—" one of them shouted.
Clang! Clang! Clang!
Three strikes in a row, and they could not see or react. All three fell.
Now everyone attacked together. They had no choice. For a moment, Reinh’s body disappeared under the wave of wooden weapons and shouts.
The spectators held their breath.
Then a sound came from behind them. Everyone turned. Reinh was there. Behind the defense line.
How? No one understood. Selen only realized now. She turned and raised her daggers, ready to attack or defend.
But it was too late. Reinh’s wooden sword stopped on her neck.
He did not strike. He just left it there.
Selen froze. The rest of the group went rigid.
"The commander is removed," Reinh’s calm voice rang out.
"I didn’t even see him..." Then it was as if the group’s body stopped working. A few went to their knees. One muttered under his breath.
Selen’s breath was fast. Sweat ran down her temple. She had not even noticed when Reinh had passed by her.
"Your defense wasn’t bad," he glanced over them.
"But you still think the enemy comes from the front. You must be ready for all scenarios."
He placed the wooden sword on his shoulder and walked away.
"Take a short rest. When I finish with the other groups, I’ll come for you."
A few members of Selen’s group groaned under their breath. Selen lowered her daggers, still looking at the place where Reinh had stood. The difference was so great that she felt like her mind might collapse at any moment.
"The more I look, the more I realize these are real war experiences," Cerdik frowned for a moment. Still, how could a child have combat experience?
He shook his head, perhaps imagining things and making a mistake.
"I guess I’m getting old," he laughed and let it go.
Training continued until night. Everyone was so tired they could not continue. When night came, Reinh dismissed everyone except the five commanders and Aaron to go.
The five commanders needed to continue their personal training from last night. And as for Aaron...
"Why do I have to stay?" Even Aaron did not know why he had to remain.
"Your turn has come. It’s time to show your worth," Reinh replied.
