Official Career Storm-Chapter 1371:
Zhou Zheng thought that since the other party’s goal was to monitor him, now that he had risen to the position of City Secretary, could it be that the other party might also install surveillance in this office?
Liang Jianfeng’s thinking was more expansive; he felt that since it needed checking, it might be better to check all the leaders’ offices.
If Zhou Zheng wasn’t the only one being monitored, the case might have the chance to get unanimous support from the Standing Committee members to catch the person installing the surveillance.
When the interests of most people get damaged, obstacles become very, very small.
Regarding his suggestion, Zhou Zheng pondered for a moment, then nodded, "Let’s check first. I’ll contact them later."
"Okay."
Liang Jianfeng knew he would definitely agree.
Soon, the police came.
They conducted a meticulous examination in Zhou Zheng’s office but found no surveillance equipment.
Zhou Zheng breathed a slight sigh of relief.
But when he thought about how he had been secretly monitored for who knows how long when he was Mayor, he felt a chill down his spine again.
"Mr. Liang, go back first. I’ll notify you when it’s time to check."
"Okay."
Liang Jianfeng didn’t concern himself with how Zhou Zheng would communicate with those leaders; it wasn’t his concern.
After he left, Zhou Zheng lit a cigarette and dialed Wu Qiangwei’s number, asking her to come over.
He was well aware that Wu Qiangwei knew about this matter before he did.
But he didn’t care.
He didn’t know who installed the surveillance, so he suspected everyone except Wu Qiangwei.
Because Wu Qiangwei, like him, was on the monitored side.
In other words, the only person he could trust now was Wu Qiangwei.
This wasn’t to say he didn’t have his own circle.
He did.
It’s just that he was naturally skeptical.
Especially after discovering that the office had been bugged, he severely distrusted everyone around him.
Therefore, he had to find a way to catch the person who installed the surveillance.
Inviting Wu Qiangwei over was to discuss the countermeasures.
The City Government and City Committee were very close; after the phone call, it only took Wu Qiangwei twenty minutes to arrive.
The Secretary served tea and left the office.
Wu Qiangwei looked at Zhou Zheng and asked, "Secretary Zhou, what’s the matter?"
Zhou Zheng said, "Director Liang has already found some things."
"Oh? What are they?" Wu Qiangwei asked knowingly.
Zhou Zheng put on a show and briefly explained the situation to her.
Wu Qiangwei feigned appropriate surprise.
The two performed a play, with full understanding of each other’s thoughts.
After the preliminaries, Zhou Zheng began discussing the real matter. He asked, "Mayor Wu, who do you think is most likely to do such a thing?"
Being the person involved, it’s hard for him to think objectively.
So, he wanted Wu Qiangwei’s perspective as an outsider.
Wu Qiangwei directly shook her head: "I’ve only been in Jiangzhou for a little over two months; I don’t understand this city well enough. Secretary Zhou, your question stumps me."
Zhou Zheng frowned, a bit impatient, but he suppressed the emotion and tried to remain patient, saying: "Secretary Wu, don’t have any concerns. In this matter, you and I are on the same side."
Just as he finished speaking, he saw Wu Qiangwei’s eyes covertly sweeping across the office.
Seeing her action, Zhou Zheng felt a slight twitch in his mouth.
He understood Wu Qiangwei’s meaning.
She was worried that he might be secretly recording this conversation...
Suddenly, Zhou Zheng felt very awkward.
Though he completely understood why Wu Qiangwei felt that way, it was hard for him not to feel speechless.
He stood up and said, "Let’s talk somewhere else."
"Okay." Wu Qiangwei agreed readily, which made Zhou Zheng feel even more awkward.
Leaving the office, he didn’t lead Wu Qiangwei to the conference room but let her lead the way.
And this way, they directly arrived at the staircase.
Zhou Zheng felt particularly like an underground party member making secret contact.
"Who do you suspect in your heart, Secretary Zhou?" Wu Qiangwei took the initiative and asked directly.
With no one else around, there was no need to worry about being overheard, so Zhou Zheng straightforwardly said, "Lv Jie."
Deputy Secretary of the Municipal Committee, Lv Jie.
This was the person he suspected the most.
Wu Qiangwei gently nodded: "I suspect him too."
Zhou Zheng looked at her doubtfully, as if suspecting she was deliberately conforming to his thoughts.
Wu Qiangwei seemed to know what he was thinking and said, "From what I understand, Secretary Lu has always wanted to be promoted, but his chances aren’t great. After all, based on seniority, he’s far from being in line."
At this point, Wu Qiangwei stopped speaking.
There was no need to be too explicit; besides, since both suspected the same person, it was clear Zhou Zheng had the same thoughts.
Zhou Zheng nodded; indeed, his suspicion of Lv Jie was for this reason.
Lv Jie wanted to be City Secretary, and his biggest competitor was Zhou Zheng.
Therefore, the surveillance appearing in his office made Lv Jie the prime suspect.
Lv Jie hadn’t expected that Provincial Committee Secretary Gao would directly appoint him by bringing Wu Qiangwei over.
Under these circumstances, no matter what outside moves Lv Jie had, they were useless.
After all, Zhou Zheng was appointed by Secretary Gao as City Secretary; anyone who dared to oppose was essentially challenging Secretary Gao.
Of course, everything was speculative at present.
Whether it was Lv Jie who monitored Zhou Zheng, no one could guarantee.
Suddenly, Zhou Zheng took out his mobile phone and dialed a number.
"Secretary Lu, are you at the City Committee? Come to my office for a moment."
After hanging up, Zhou Zheng said, "Let’s go."
Wu Qiangwei frowned, "What’s Secretary Zhou’s intention?"
Zhou Zheng said, "To test him."
Wu Qiangwei asked, "How will you test him?"
"You’ll know shortly."
"Secretary Zhou should speak about it first."
Wu Qiangwei didn’t move.
He was evidently trying to use Wu Qiangwei, though in this matter, they were in the same boat.
But without understanding what he truly intended to do, Wu Qiangwei dared not cooperate.
Zhou Zheng said, "I’ll tell him the situation later and say you received a whistleblowing letter, claiming he installed the surveillance, to bluff him."
Wu Qiangwei said, "I think it’s inappropriate."
She felt Zhou Zheng’s actions were too rash, without thorough consideration.
Besides, if Lv Jie was indeed responsible, such bluffing wouldn’t expose anything.
Zhou Zheng held a different view: "Whether true or not, it’s good to probe. If it happens to be him, that’s for the best; if it’s not him, it serves as a warning."
Wu Qiangwei’s eyelid lightly twitched, but she didn’t say anything further.
Back in the office, within a few minutes, Lv Jie arrived.
He saw Wu Qiangwei was there.
"Secretary Wu,"
Smiling at Wu Qiangwei, he sat looking at Zhou Zheng.
"Secretary Zhou, did you call for me?"
Zhou Zheng hesitated for a couple of seconds and said, "Mayor Wu’s office was found with surveillance installed."
Lv Jie was stunned for two or three seconds: "Ah?"
"Mayor Wu received a whistleblowing letter..."
Zhou Zheng intentionally paused for two seconds, staring at the bewildered Lv Jie, and suddenly said, "Secretary Lu, tell us why you did it."
