On Our Wedding Day My Husband Announced His First Love Online-Chapter 128: Admission Rejected
Chloe Miller was finally back from a rare business trip, so I took her out to dinner that night. After we’d had our fill, I ended up staying over at her place.
As for me not coming home for the night, neither my aunt’s family nor my older brother ever asked about it. ’They were probably thrilled I wasn’t coming back...’
However, I wasn’t about to be their fool.
First thing the next morning, I called a moving company and scheduled a time to move.
Seeing me hang up, Chloe Miller leaned in, her face alight with gossip. "No way. Are you really going to be that ruthless? You’re actually moving out? Doesn’t that mean you’ll be burning your bridges with your aunt’s family?"
"Yep." I nodded.
Chloe Miller immediately gave me a thumbs-up. "Awesome, awesome. I knew you weren’t the type to suffer in silence! Only a complete idiot like Theodore Grant would think you’re some spineless pushover he could walk all over."
I couldn’t help but give a bitter smile. The truth was, I had made too many concessions for Theodore Grant, placing myself in the most humble position, which was how I became so disposable to him.
They say that once you figure it out, you realize you should always prioritize loving yourself. Otherwise, if you don’t even love yourself, how can you expect anyone else to love you?
It’s just a shame I learned that lesson too late.
...
Worried I’d be at a disadvantage, Chloe Miller insisted on coming back with me, saying she’d be my backup.
I couldn’t talk her out of it, so I brought her along.
But just as I was pulling up to the apartment building, my aunt called.
"Hello, Chelsea, what’s going on? Some people from a moving company just knocked on the door, saying they’re here to move things..."
"Yes, I’m the one who called them."
My aunt grew anxious. "What—what’s going on? Why are you suddenly moving?"
"Didn’t I tell you yesterday? This apartment isn’t mine. I was just renting it temporarily. Now that the lease is up, I naturally have to move out."
My aunt’s voice dropped. "Chelsea, is it because you think we’re being a bother?"
I laughed inwardly. ’So she knows exactly what’s going on but is still playing dumb...’
Well, if she wanted to put on an act, I was happy to play along.
"Of course not. The lease is really up. I’m just downstairs, we can talk when I get up there."
After I hung up, Chloe Miller sidled up to me with a grin. "Hardcore!"
I pushed her face away, not knowing whether to laugh or cry. "Alright, stop messing around. The main event is about to start."
Chloe Miller nodded quickly. She surely knew my aunt’s family wouldn’t leave so easily and would definitely try every trick in the book to stick to me...
Soon, Chloe Miller and I arrived at the door. Seeing the movers still waiting outside, I quickly apologized and opened it.
"Sorry about that. My aunt probably wasn’t aware of the situation. It’s fine now. You can start moving."
The movers waved their hands dismissively. After all, I was the one paying for the delay, so they were getting paid either way.
Seeing the movers start to work, my aunt finally grabbed my arm and pulled me aside. "Where are you moving? Is the place big enough? How many rooms does it have?"
"The neighborhood isn’t as nice as this one, but it’s cheaper. It’s a two-bedroom, and I settled on the price last month..."
"I see..." My aunt pursed her lips. "That’s fine. We can just hang a curtain in the living room to make a partition for your uncle to sleep in. Sasha and I can share a room. We can all squeeze in."
’Just as I expected.’
I just smiled and said nothing more.
Since most of the furniture belonged to the apartment, there wasn’t much for me to take—just some daily necessities and clothes.
Just as things were nearly packed up, the door to Sasha’s room was thrown open. She stormed out, fuming. "Mom, my application was rejected."
"What?" My aunt, who was still helping pack, was completely baffled by Sasha’s words. "Rejected from what?"
Sasha shot me a disgruntled look. "The HR manager from Mr. Forrest’s company just called me. She said my resume doesn’t meet their requirements, so they rejected my application!"
"Huh?" My aunt finally understood and whipped her head around to look at me.
"Chelsea, what... what’s going on?"
"I have no idea..." I feigned ignorance, furrowing my brow. "What did the HR manager say?"
Sasha gritted her teeth in frustration. "She said their company doesn’t hire people with just a vocational school diploma! The minimum education requirement is a master’s degree!"
Standing to the side, Chloe Miller pressed her lips together, trying to stifle a laugh. When she couldn’t hold it in any longer, she turned and went into the kitchen, pretending to be busy packing.
She almost made me break character. I had to run through every sad memory I could think of just to keep from laughing. I even managed a serious-looking frown. "I see. Well, there’s nothing I can do about it then."
"Mom!" Sasha stomped her foot in a huff.
Seeing this, my aunt quickly tried to soothe her. "Alright, don’t be angry. The people at Mr. Forrest’s company probably just don’t know who you are. I’ll go talk to him again and have him hire you directly!"
It was clear my aunt was dead set on using connections to get her in.
And when you’re using connections, you obviously don’t have to meet the same requirements as everyone else.
Perhaps my aunt’s reassurances worked, as Sasha stopped fuming. But she still had a sullen look on her face. Glancing at the things scattered around, she pouted, annoyed. "Where are we moving, anyway? I hope it’s not some godforsaken place."
"Don’t talk nonsense." My aunt quickly tugged on Sasha’s hand. "Sweetheart, why don’t you go back to your room and play on your phone for a bit? We’ll call you when the moving is done."
Sasha pouted, shot me a glare, and then turned to go back to her room. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝕨𝕖𝗯𝚗𝚘𝕧𝕖𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝕞
Just as we were about finished packing, there was a sudden knock on the door.
I instinctively looked toward the sound and saw Sebastian Forrest standing in the doorway, head tilted, a half-smile on his face as he looked at me. "What’s this? Moving out?"
I hadn’t expected Sebastian Forrest to suddenly show up. I nodded, a little stunned. When I came to my senses, I was terrified he’d let something slip in front of my aunt, so I quickly grabbed him and started pulling him outside. "Senior Forrest, I actually have something to tell you..."
But before we had taken more than a few steps, my aunt scurried over, grabbed Sebastian Forrest’s arm, and said with a laugh, "Mr. Forrest, someone from your company called Sasha just now. Why was she rejected? Could you have a word with your people?"
Sebastian Forrest glanced at me, the corner of his lip twitching into a smirk, before he replied, "That’s a bit tricky. The company isn’t just mine, after all. I can’t call all the shots..."
Listening to Sebastian Forrest tell such a bold-faced lie, I couldn’t help but turn my head away, the tips of my ears growing a little hot.
My aunt panicked at his words. "But... what are we supposed to do then? Isn’t Sasha going to be your personal assistant? You can’t even make that decision?"
’Personal assistant...’
’She was practically shoving her calculations in our faces!’
