On Our Wedding Day My Husband Announced His First Love Online-Chapter 85: A Kiss for You Now
Before I could figure it all out, Third Aunt stood up with a beaming smile. "Well, I just popped in to see you. You and your friend have fun. I’ll be heading out now."
"Take care, Third Aunt."
Once Third Aunt was gone, Chloe Miller immediately tugged on my sleeve, her face a mask of gossip. "What’s this about a bracelet? A family heirloom, no less? Master Forrest is really pulling out all the stops..."
"Don’t you go getting carried away," I said, exasperated. "Senior Forrest’s third aunt is more than she seems."
Chloe Miller froze for a second before it dawned on her. "Oh my god, she looked so kind and friendly. I actually thought she genuinely liked you..."
"For her to come all this way just to bring up the bracelet... do you think she’s setting a trap for you?"
I nodded. "I’m afraid it’s not that simple."
With that, I told Chloe Miller all about the bowl of Deer Blood Soup at Forrest Manor. "She seems desperate to push me and Sebastian Forrest together. There’s no way her intentions are good."
’The only explanation is that my identity is a problem for the Forrest Family...’
’If Sebastian Forrest got together with me, he would surely be dragged down too.’
’And if Sebastian Forrest falls, the ones who stand to gain the most would be his third uncle’s family.’
’That must be her plan.’
’But if that’s really her plan, then she has sorely miscalculated!’
’Because Sebastian Forrest and I are just acting. It could never become real.’
"These powerful families are so complicated," Chloe Miller sighed. "I used to think you and Master Forrest were a good match, but now..."
"You should stay as far away as you can."
I smiled, glad that Chloe Miller was finally getting it.
’Not to mention I’m carrying Theodore Grant’s child. I doubt anyone would tolerate this baby’s existence...’
At that thought, I gently stroked my lower abdomen. ’Don’t worry, little one. Mommy will protect you.’
’I won’t let anyone harm you.’
...
Soon, the door to the lounge was pushed open. Chloe Miller and I instinctively glanced over our shoulders to see Sebastian Forrest walking in.
"My Third Aunt was here just now?"
I knew this was Sebastian Forrest’s turf and that he’d be well-informed, so I repeated everything his aunt had said to him, word for word.
Sebastian Forrest’s expression darkened slightly, his pupils as black as ink. "My Third Aunt has always been... enthusiastic."
He was smiling as he said it, but his voice was laced with ice, sending a chill down my spine.
"She said that you... for the bracelet..." I swallowed the word ’begged’ just as it was about to leave my lips. I was trying to find another way to phrase it when Sebastian Forrest suddenly laughed.
"That’s right. I begged for it."
I stared at Sebastian Forrest in utter astonishment. His eyes were so dark and deep they seemed to pull you right in.
"What’s wrong?" Sebastian Forrest was still smiling. "Why so surprised? If I don’t put on a show for The Matriarch, how will she ever believe I’ve fallen head over heels for you?"
I was stunned for a moment. "So... you were acting?"
Sebastian Forrest tilted his head, a cryptic smile playing on his lips as he retorted, "What else?"
’I was so embarrassed I wished the ground would open up and swallow me whole.’
’Narcissism is a disease!’
’And it needs to be cured!’
’What on earth was I thinking just now?’
’To think that Sebastian Forrest actually went out of his way to beg Madam Forrest for it?’
’I must be crazy!’
"Alright, it’s about time," Sebastian Forrest said with a smile. "The bidding is about to start. Are you going to stay here, or do you want to go out and watch the show?"
"I’ll go out."
"Let’s go, then."
I quickly waved my hand. "You go on ahead. Chloe Miller and I will come out in a little while."
’I’d only come here with Sebastian Forrest today to deal with his Third Aunt.’
’Now that my purpose was served, it was best to avoid any unnecessary misunderstandings.’
Sebastian Forrest seemed to understand my hesitation. He just smiled without saying much. "Alright. I’ll head out first, then. If you need anything, find Henry Paxton."
"Okay, I will."
...
The moment Sebastian Forrest left, Chloe Miller was itching to go out and see what was happening.
She was here on assignment and had already wasted too much time in the lounge.
I couldn’t talk her out of it, so I went with her.
The moment we pushed open the lounge door, a tidal wave of chatter and laughter washed over us, a stark contrast to the quiet within.
"Miss Joyce..."
Just then, Henry Paxton, who had been standing guard by the door, immediately walked over. "Is there anything you need?"
I quickly waved him off. "No, my friend and I just want to have a look around."
Henry Paxton’s gaze flickered over Chloe Miller for a moment before he smiled. "Well, let me know if you need anything."
"Thank you."
I linked arms with Chloe Miller and we headed toward the booth area. From a distance, I could see Sebastian Forrest, the clear center of attention with a crowd gathered around him. I was trying to keep a low profile, but to my surprise, his gaze shot past everyone and landed right on me.
Under the dazzling lights, his eyes were pitch-black, a sparkle like crushed diamonds dancing in their depths.
Everyone in his circle was focused on him, so when his eyes moved, they all turned in unison to follow his gaze toward me.
Just as I was about to turn away, Sebastian Forrest raised his hand and crooked a finger at me, gesturing for me to come over.
I was flustered, unsure why he was calling me over in front of so many people.
But then my gaze landed on his Third Aunt nearby, who was staring at me pensively, and Fiona Forrest, who was glaring at me with a resentful pout.
I took a deep breath. Just as I was about to pull Chloe Miller along, she shamelessly abandoned me, letting go of my hand. "You go on your own. I’m going to check things out over there..."
"..."
With Chloe Miller off to attend to her ’business,’ I had no choice but to feign composure and walk toward Sebastian Forrest alone.
As I approached, the crowd around Sebastian Forrest naturally parted to let me through.
"What is it?" I asked Sebastian Forrest in a low voice.
But Sebastian Forrest just smiled, sliding his hand onto my shoulder and pulling me into his embrace. While I was still dazed, I heard his low, warm chuckle from above my head. "Elder Quinn, I really do have a girlfriend. Maybe you should introduce your granddaughter to someone else?"
"You little rascal!"
An old man, his hair gray but his spirit vigorous, shot Sebastian Forrest an annoyed glare. "Where’d you find this young lady to play along with your act? I just asked your father a few days ago, and he said you were still single!"
’Hearing that, I finally understood what was happening.’
’So, he was using me as a shield again...’
"My dad’s busy at his research institute all day. What would he know?" Sebastian Forrest said with a lazy smile. He glanced down at me, then looked back up at Master Quinn and added teasingly, "If you really don’t believe me, how about I kiss her for you right now?"
