On the Day I Was Kicked Out of the Wealthy Family, I Had a Flash Marriage with a Tycoon-Chapter 104: Thanks for the Affirmation
A hint of surprise flickered in Jasper Lockwood’s eyes. He clearly hadn’t expected Chloe Sterling to say that.
Seeing his expression, Chloe Sterling raised an eyebrow. "What’s with that look?"
Jasper Lockwood’s thin lips curved slightly. "I’ve just noticed you’ve been much more agreeable lately. You no longer ask what right I have to tell you what to do."
Chloe Sterling: "..."
’He really holds a grudge.’
After a moment, she cleared her throat. "I can be reasonable."
Chloe Kensington sped down the road, not forgetting to call Phoebe Sinclair to complain. "I never thought President Lockwood would go pick up Chloe Sterling himself. I almost fell for that little bitch’s trick. Good thing I got out of there fast."
"Jasper Lockwood went to the Medical College to pick Chloe Sterling up in person?" Phoebe Sinclair’s voice was seething.
"Yeah. He’s probably just putting on a show for others, since they’re technically a married couple."
A sudden silence fell over the phone.
Chloe Kensington frowned slightly. ’Damn it, I shouldn’t have said they were husband and wife. Phoebe Sinclair hates hearing that, even if it’s just in name only.’
"But President Lockwood didn’t even get out of the car, and his expression was pretty cold. I don’t think he’s that into Chloe Sterling. He’ll probably kick that little bitch out soon enough."
"Did you know Jean Kensington is back?" Phoebe Sinclair asked suddenly.
"What!" Chloe Kensington was shocked. "Jean Kensington is back? You saw her?"
"She came to The Sinclair Group today."
Chloe Kensington’s hands tightened on the steering wheel, her tone dripping with scorn. "She actually has the gall to come back after having some bastard child! Isn’t her precious uncle ashamed of what a disgrace she is, letting her go to The Sinclair Group?"
"Dean Lynch didn’t escort her; Tristan Sinclair was the one who brought her inside." As she said this, a hint of resentment crept into Phoebe Sinclair’s voice.
"President Sinclair?" Chloe Kensington’s face darkened, and she gritted her teeth. "That bitch is as shameless as she’s always been!" Then, she sneered. "Whatever. She’s just damaged goods now, with a kid from god-knows-who. The only thing she’ll be doing from now on is daydreaming."
Before they arrived at the Lockwood Residence, a sharp pain shot through Chloe Sterling’s lower abdomen, and she immediately frowned.
It felt like her period was about to start. She always got cramps beforehand, and she tried to stay composed so Jasper Lockwood wouldn’t notice anything was amiss.
This time, however, was different. The pain grew steadily worse. By the time the car pulled into the Lockwood Residence, Chloe Sterling’s face was ashen.
Noticing her pale complexion, Jasper Lockwood immediately asked, "What’s wrong? Why are you suddenly so pale? Are you feeling unwell?"
"I’m fine." Without waiting for Henry Chamberlain, Chloe Sterling pushed the car door open and got out on her own.
Jasper Lockwood immediately got out after her and took her by the arm. "Chloe."
An embarrassed look flashed across Chloe Sterling’s face. "My stomach hurts," she said softly. "I’ll be fine once I get to my room and take some medicine."
"Your stomach hurts? But you were fine just a moment ago. Why would it suddenly start hurting?" The words were barely out of his mouth when Jasper Lockwood realized. He lowered his voice. "Is it your period?"
Chloe Sterling nodded awkwardly. "I’m going on ahead."
Before she could take a step, Jasper Lockwood reached out and swept her up into his arms.
Chloe Sterling: "..."
Taking long strides, Jasper Lockwood quickly carried her into the villa.
Soon, they were in her upstairs room. Jasper Lockwood gently placed her on the sofa and asked, "Where’s the medicine?"
Chloe Sterling pointed to a cabinet. "It’s in there. There’s a first-aid kit inside."
Jasper Lockwood immediately went to get the kit and quickly poured a glass of water.
Chloe Sterling had already taken out the medicine and swallowed it.
"Drink some water." Jasper Lockwood immediately brought the glass of warm water to her lips to help her drink.
Chloe Sterling looked at him, then opened her mouth and took a couple of sips. The color began to return to her face.
"Is it always this painful?" Jasper Lockwood asked.
"No," Chloe Sterling said. "Just... occasionally."
’It’s only this bad this time. It must be related to the Black Fruit Vine poisoning from a few days ago. Even though I took the antidote, there must be some lingering effects.’
Jasper Lockwood placed his large, warm hand on her lower abdomen and asked again, "Will the medicine make the pain go away completely?"
"Yes, it will." Chloe Sterling’s lips curved into a small smile. "It’s a medication I developed myself. It works wonders."
"Rest at home for the next few days. Don’t go out."
"There’s no need to be so dramatic. Once I take the medicine, I’ll be fine, just like any other day."
The medicine was indeed highly effective. After just a short while, the color had already returned to Chloe Sterling’s cheeks.
Jasper Lockwood didn’t press the issue, but he was still worried and decided to keep an eye on her. He then instructed the kitchen to prepare a nourishing soup for her.
He watched her finish two bowls himself before he was finally satisfied.
「In a restaurant.」
Charles Sterling was having dinner with his wife.
The woman sighed softly several times.
Charles Sterling chuckled. "Why all the sighs?"
The woman’s face was etched with disappointment. "Tell me, how can it be that no one knows who that girl is? It just doesn’t make sense. A prodigy like that should be a legend at the school. Everyone ought to know her. Just like... you were, back in the day."
Charles Sterling said, "Perhaps the girl prefers to keep a low profile."
"I suppose so." After a moment, the woman smiled again. "By the way, I saw an exceptionally beautiful young woman at the Medical College today. The kind of beauty you rarely see. I wonder whose family she comes from; she must have amazing genes. I wish I had a daughter that beautiful."
"Our genes are excellent, too." Charles Sterling’s lips curved into a smile. "Maybe we should have a daughter and make your dream come true."
The woman blushed. "Don’t be silly. Think about our age." 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝒆𝒘𝙚𝓫𝙣𝙤𝒗𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
’We’re in our forties. By the time a daughter grew up, I’d be an old woman. Our two sons are nearly adults. I’d rather just wait for daughters-in-law.’
Charles Sterling said, "Forty is still the prime of your life. Plenty of people have kids at our age."
The woman: "...Just eat your dinner!"
At the restaurant’s entrance, Rose Lynch froze, her heart a maelstrom of emotions as she watched the couple inside laughing and talking.
Twenty years had passed. Charles Sterling had lost his youthful air and grown much more mature, but he was still as handsome and charming as he’d always been.
And... he had another woman by his side.
"Mom, why did you stop?" Esther Sterling asked.
Ruby Lynch said, "Sis, what’s wrong?"
Rose Lynch snapped out of her daze and stopped them. "I suddenly don’t feel like eating here anymore. Let’s go somewhere else."
"Why?"
Ruby Lynch glanced inside the restaurant and understood at once. Rose Lynch didn’t want to see Charles Sterling; she still felt a pang of guilt where he was concerned.
"Alright, let’s find another place then. Come on, Esther."
Esther Sterling didn’t understand, but she followed the two of them away.
"Esther, has President Sinclair come to watch your performances again?" Ruby Lynch asked.
A flicker of disappointment crossed Esther Sterling’s eyes, but her face remained placid. "Auntie, President Sinclair is a very busy man. He doesn’t have time to come often."
Ruby Lynch smiled. "That’s true. With all the Sinclair Family’s businesses, the man in charge of the group is bound to be busy."
"He’ll definitely come for the finals," Esther Sterling added.
"Of course he will."
「The next day.」
Chloe Sterling went to the Medical College as usual, but Jasper Lockwood wouldn’t let her drive, insisting on taking her there himself.
Director Xavier came looking for her again. "Chloe, Charles Sterling said he’d like to meet with you, just to discuss his proposal. He promised that if you’re still not interested, he won’t bother you again. So... what do you say?"
"I won’t see him," Chloe Sterling said without a second thought.
Director Xavier: "..."
"Director Xavier, it’s not just that I don’t want to work for these companies; I don’t want to get involved with the people who run them. I especially don’t want to become a tool in their pursuit of fame and fortune. That’s the whole reason I chose to be at the Medical College."
"Er... actually, Charles Sterling isn’t like that."
"You haven’t seen him in twenty years. How can you be so sure?"
"Alright, I’ll reject him definitively this time. I won’t trouble you about it again."
"Thank you for your understanding, Director Xavier."
