Chapter 108: Chapter 108: Jasper Lockwood Flirts with Her Again

Henry Chamberlain was taken aback. "Sir... do you have any orders?"

Jasper Lockwood spoke slowly. "No. You may leave."

A flash of surprise crossed Henry Chamberlain’s face. ’The Second Master isn’t even going to retaliate?’

Seeing him hesitate, Jasper Lockwood lifted his gaze and said coldly, "Is there something else?" 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ𝓋𝑒𝑙.𝑐𝘰𝑚

"N-No, nothing. I’ll be leaving now." Henry Chamberlain immediately turned and left the office.

Jasper Lockwood’s eyes darkened, a sharp glint flashing within them. He picked up his phone and made a call.

That afternoon, Jasper Lockwood arrived near The Medical College right on time. When Chloe Sterling came out and got into his car, she gave him a strange look, her expression tinged with guilt.

Jasper Lockwood’s expression was calm, as if he were just making casual conversation. "How did your experiment go today? Was it successful?"

"Not very," Chloe Sterling said.

"How so?"

Chloe Sterling looked at him, and after a moment’s hesitation, she decided to tell him. "Silas Coldwell suddenly came to find me at The Medical College today, and he did some rather ostentatious things. I know you might not be happy about it, but I don’t want to hide it from you." After a pause, she added, "Jasper Lockwood, Silas Coldwell isn’t just anybody. He’s also fixated on my pharmaceutical refining skills. For a moment, I really didn’t know what to do to stop him from coming after me again."

He hadn’t expected her to bring it up on her own. A flicker of surprise crossed Jasper Lockwood’s eyes.

Seeing his expression, Chloe Sterling cleared her throat and added, "I promised you I’d be careful. Since I failed to do that, I needed to be clear with you."

A faint smile touched Jasper Lockwood’s thin lips. "I know."

Chloe Sterling was a little surprised to see him so calm, even smiling. She suddenly asked, "You... don’t tell me you already knew?"

"I did." Jasper Lockwood didn’t hide it, saying leisurely, "I found out. How could a certain someone *not* let me know? He even threw in a photo. Want to see it?"

"...Silas Coldwell told you! And sent you a picture?" Chloe Sterling frowned, then paused before adding, "Never mind. I don’t want to see it."

She didn’t need to see it to know what was in the photo. She was there, after all. Besides, she had no desire to look.

"So, you’re not going to go after Silas Coldwell again, are you?"

Chloe Sterling didn’t know that Jasper Lockwood had recently made a move against him. Silas Coldwell had just returned from resolving an issue in Country E, which was why he hadn’t contacted or looked for her lately. The grand scene he created at The Medical College upon his return was partly in retaliation against Jasper Lockwood.

Jasper Lockwood’s thin lips parted as he said nonchalantly, "Depends on my mood."

Chloe Sterling raised an eyebrow. "Why do I get the feeling you’re in a good mood?"

Jasper Lockwood: "..."

’He was just trying not to show his bad mood in front of her, and she thought he was in a good mood?!’

"Mrs. Lockwood, what gave you the impression that I’m in a good mood?" Jasper Lockwood asked.

Chloe Sterling was momentarily speechless. It wasn’t that she actually thought he was in a good mood; she just hadn’t expected him to be so composed. She recalled his previous reactions when he got jealous—the possessive kisses that felt like he wanted to devour her whole.

"No, that’s not it. I just thought you’d be furious and go after Silas Coldwell again."

Jasper Lockwood scoffed. "Of course I’m not just going to let it go."

Chloe Sterling’s lips parted, but she hesitated to speak.

Jasper Lockwood noticed and asked, "What is it you want to say?"

"Never mind. You definitely wouldn’t agree."

"You want me to leave Silas Coldwell alone?"

"Yes," Chloe Sterling answered honestly.

"Why?" The expression on Jasper Lockwood’s handsome face shifted. "Are you..."

"No!" Before he could finish his thought, Chloe Sterling cut him off. "It’s not that I care about him, I just don’t want the two of you to fight. Silas Coldwell didn’t become the head of the Nocturne Group by ordinary means."

"Are you worried I’ll lose to him?"

"Not that either." Chloe Sterling trusted Jasper Lockwood’s abilities and methods. She explained, "I just think it would be a mutually destructive fight. Neither of you would benefit from it."

"Not necessarily," Jasper Lockwood said coolly. "But this time, I really don’t plan on making a move."

As they spoke, they soon arrived at the Lockwood Residence.

As they walked into the villa, Jasper Lockwood suddenly pulled Chloe Sterling into his arms, lifted her chin with his fingers, and lowered his head to capture her lips in a kiss.

Henry Chamberlain was right behind them, and the butler and maids were nearby.

Chloe Sterling’s face flushed. She instinctively tried to push him away but couldn’t budge him. In the end, she could only close her eyes.

The staff around them ducked their heads, hiding their smiles as they all quietly retreated.

Just as Chloe Sterling felt all the air leave her lungs, on the verge of drowning in his fervent kiss, Jasper Lockwood finally released her. He rested his forehead against hers and said in a husky voice, "Chloe, come with me to a cocktail party next Saturday."

Chloe Sterling slowly opened her eyes. Looking at the handsome face just inches from hers, she steadied her breath before saying, "No!"

Jasper Lockwood: "..."

Her face red, Chloe Sterling added, "And don’t... do that in front of so many people ever again!"

Jasper Lockwood glanced around. "But there’s no one here."

Only then did Chloe Sterling notice that everyone had scattered.

"The cocktail party on Saturday night... come with me, okay?"

After a brief pause, Chloe Sterling asked, "...As your assistant?"

Jasper Lockwood: "...As Mrs. Lockwood."

"But wouldn’t my identity be exposed then?"

"It won’t be a large crowd, and I’ve already given instructions. They wouldn’t dare say a word."

After a moment of silence, Chloe Sterling said, "I’ll think about it."

A faint smile touched Jasper Lockwood’s thin lips. "Alright."

That evening, Chloe Sterling read for a while before getting ready for bed. Just as she was about to turn off the light, Jasper Lockwood suddenly pushed open the door and walked in.

She froze. "Is something wrong?"

Jasper Lockwood said with a perfectly straight face, "Nothing. I’m just tired."

"..."

Chloe Sterling watched as he walked step by step toward her, then lay down beside her. As she caught the faint, pleasant scent on him, she subconsciously clutched the corner of the blanket.

It wasn’t a convenient time of the month for her, so Jasper Lockwood naturally wouldn’t do anything. But every time he got this close, she still felt a little flustered.

Jasper Lockwood suddenly turned his head, his phoenix-like eyes fixed on her. His voice was low and magnetic. "Have you made up your mind?"

"What?" Chloe Sterling asked, dazed.

"About coming to the cocktail party with me on Saturday as Mrs. Lockwood."

"How long has it even been?"

"I told you, I’m impatient. I want to know the answer soon."

Chloe Sterling pressed her lips together. "Alright."

Jasper Lockwood let out a low chuckle and pulled her into his arms. "Get some sleep."

Chloe Sterling didn’t speak or move, remaining perfectly still.

Even so, Jasper Lockwood couldn’t remain entirely calm. The thought of what Silas Coldwell had done during the day—of the woman he loved being the subject of a public declaration of affection from that bastard—made a knot of frustration tighten in his chest, making it hard to breathe.

He hugged the woman in his arms tighter and tighter, as if only then could he clearly feel that she belonged to him.

"Jasper Lockwood..." Chloe Sterling suddenly spoke.

"Hm? What is it?" Jasper Lockwood asked, feigning ignorance.

Chloe Sterling was completely exasperated. "You can loosen your grip."

Jasper Lockwood stared at her for a moment with his deep eyes. He loosened his hold slightly, only to suddenly roll over, pinning her beneath him.

Chloe Sterling’s eyes flew wide open as she stared at him in shock. "What... what are you doing?"
