Chapter 45: Chapter 45: Did You Forget to Take Your Medicine?

Ruby Lynch paused, a little surprised, then she smiled.

Esther Sterling frowned slightly. "Aunt Ruby, are you laughing at me?"

"Of course not." Ruby Lynch took her hand. "I just didn’t expect you to be so ambitious. Have you met Damian Rivers?"

Esther Sterling nodded. "I have. We’ve even talked."

"Really? Where?" 𝓯𝓻𝒆𝙚𝒘𝓮𝙗𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝒍.𝙘𝓸𝙢

"At a friend’s party."

"So you two already know each other?"

Esther Sterling’s fingers tightened slightly. "Yes, we do."

Ruby Lynch grew even more delighted. "Good girl, why didn’t you say so earlier? Is he coming to your birthday party today?"

Esther Sterling’s gaze was firm. "He’ll be here sooner or later."

If Esther Sterling could really marry the little prince of the Rivers Family, Ruby Lynch’s own status within the family would rise significantly. She looked at the niece she had watched grow up, feeling more and more pleased. "Esther, if there’s anything you need from me, I will do everything in my power to help you."

Esther Sterling smiled. "Thank you, Aunt Ruby."

The two of them continued chatting as they arrived at the banquet hall.

The bodyguard who had gone in ahead to search for Chloe Sterling found no trace of her and came back to report.

"Ma’am, I didn’t see the woman."

Ruby Lynch snorted. "Good. She knows her place."

Warren Sterling had been on good terms with the Rivers Family lately, thanks in large part to Ruby Lynch pulling the strings. Seeing her arrive, he immediately went over to greet her.

"Ruby, you’re here."

Ruby Lynch smiled. "You’re looking well lately, brother-in-law."

Warren Sterling let out a hearty laugh. "Yes, a good mood makes for a good complexion. And I have you to thank for that. You must enjoy yourself today."

"Ruby." At that moment, Rose Lynch also walked over.

Warren Sterling said, "You two sisters can chat. I’m going to go say hello to a few friends over there."

Ruby Lynch glanced inside and saw it was the Rivers. She nodded. "Alright."

As soon as Warren Sterling left, Ruby Lynch immediately pulled Rose Lynch aside and questioned her in a low voice, "Why is Chloe Sterling here? Didn’t we say she has nothing to do with the Sterling Family anymore?"

"What!" Rose Lynch looked astonished. "Chloe is here too? How could she be here? Did you see her?"

"Of course I saw her! I was about to ask you how she got here!" Ruby Lynch lowered her voice again. "Don’t you forget who that country girl really belongs to. I’m warning you, don’t have any more contact with her. You have Esther, and that’s enough. Chloe Sterling will only bring you shame."

Rose Lynch’s expression changed slightly. "I know. I haven’t been in contact with her. She must have come on her own. I’ll go find her right now and make her leave."

Ruby Lynch stopped her. "Don’t go. I’ve already warned her, and I have people watching outside. She probably won’t dare to come back."

Esther Sterling stood to the side, unable to hear what the two were whispering about. But she could guess it had something to do with Chloe Sterling. She just didn’t understand why they had to hide it from her.

「At the hotel’s rooftop café.」

Silas Coldwell had cleared out all the other customers. Only he and Chloe Sterling remained in the vast, open-air café.

"What did you want to talk to me about?"

Chloe Sterling took a notebook out of her bag and pushed it across the table. "Here’s what you want. Your grudge with Jasper Lockwood is now wiped clean."

Silas Coldwell glanced down at the item on the table, then looked back up at her with a wicked smile. "Baby, it’s not these formulas I want. It’s you."

Chloe Sterling looked him straight in the eye. "You know that’s impossible."

"You’re certainly willing to give a lot up for Jasper Lockwood." Silas Coldwell’s eyes narrowed, full of displeasure. "Do you like him?"

Chloe Sterling didn’t want to discuss this with him. She only said, "Do you want the formulas or not?"

Silas Coldwell: "I want you!"

Chloe Sterling lifted her coffee and took a sip. After a moment, she said, "You should think it over carefully."

Silas Coldwell stared at her intently. "Are you sure being with Jasper Lockwood is better than being with me? Do you really think he’s some saint? With how cunning he is, he could sell you out and you’d still be counting the money for him! If you weren’t Lynn Chester, just Chloe Sterling, do you think he would marry you? Would he even give you a second glance?"

Chloe Sterling put down her coffee. "If you hadn’t shown up yesterday, he wouldn’t have known I was Lynn Chester at all."

"Ha..." Silas Coldwell laughed. "Since when did you become so naive? With all the people he has working for him, you think they couldn’t find out your identity? Do you really think he’s some pure, innocent little flower?"

Chloe Sterling snorted. "And what about you? Are you a pure, innocent little flower? If I weren’t Lynn Chester, if I were just Chloe Sterling who happened to save you and had no power to resist you, what would you have done to me then?"

The corners of Silas Coldwell’s lips curled into a roguish grin. "Then our child would probably be almost due by now."

’If she wasn’t Lynn Chester, just an ordinary Pharmacist, he really would have used force to take her.’

Chloe Sterling shot him a glare. "In your dreams."

Silas Coldwell pushed the notebook back across the table. "I don’t want this shit. My score with Jasper Lockwood has to be settled! And you... sooner or later, I’ll make you come to my side willingly!"

Chloe Sterling laughed. "Well, good luck with that." After a pause, she added, "Silas, I always thought you were smart, but now it seems I was wrong."

"Baby, there’s no need to provoke me like that. It’s useless." Silas Coldwell leaned forward, getting closer to her, and said with a smile, "Even if it’s a Pyrrhic victory, I’m more than happy to take it."

Chloe Sterling pressed her lips together, silent for a long moment before suddenly speaking, "Did you forget to take your medication before you left the house?"

"Yeah, I did. Want to prescribe me something?"

"What do you really want?" Chloe Sterling asked.

"Come with me, and I’ll wipe the slate clean with Jasper Lockwood."

Chloe Sterling pulled the notebook back. "Then you might as well take your losses... and maybe they’ll be even bigger than you expect."

Silas Coldwell said, "Why didn’t you tell Jasper Lockwood your identity from the start? Is it because you don’t trust him either? How did you two even get together? Why did you marry him?"

"That’s none of your business." Chloe Sterling stood up. "Since you’re not willing, I’m leaving."

"Wait!" Silas Coldwell also stood, his expression serious. "Lynn Chester, I’m not joking with you. Jasper Lockwood is no pushover. That guy is full of dark schemes! He definitely knew your identity before he got with you. He’s using you."

Chloe Sterling: "You’re the one who wants to use me."

Silas Coldwell: "...I’m trying to protect you!"

Chloe Sterling said nothing and walked away.

’She didn’t trust Silas Coldwell, and she certainly didn’t approve of his methods.’

Silas Coldwell didn’t try to stop her again. He took a sip of coffee, his handsome face inscrutable.

Chloe Sterling exited the elevator and ran into Tristan Sinclair in the lobby.

The hotel was a property of the Sinclair Family. Tristan Sinclair had brought some people over for an inspection and was surprised to run into Chloe Sterling. He immediately smiled and greeted her, "Miss Sterling, hello."

"Young Master Sinclair, hello," Chloe Sterling said coolly.

"What are you doing here?" Tristan Sinclair’s tone was like that of a friend asking a casual question.

Chloe Sterling paused for a moment, then answered with just two words: "Meeting someone."

"Oh, I see."

’The girl’s quite cold,’ Tristan Sinclair thought to himself, ’and Jasper Lockwood is an iceberg, too. I’m suddenly a little curious how those two get along.’
