Chapter 77: Chapter 77: Something’s Strange About Jasper

Chloe Sterling took a deep breath. As she turned to look at the alarm clock on her nightstand, her eyes suddenly caught the tall figure standing at the foot of the bed.

"Jas... Jasper Lockwood!" she stammered, staring at him in astonishment. "What are you doing standing here?"

Jasper Lockwood’s deep eyes were tinged with a complex emotion. He paused for a moment before saying, "It’s past 8:00 and you still hadn’t come out of your room, so I came in to check."

"Past 8:00!" Chloe Sterling glanced at the alarm clock beside her. It was already 8:30.

She immediately got up and gave Jasper Lockwood a slightly awkward glance.

Jasper Lockwood said calmly, "I’ll wait for you downstairs."

"No need," Chloe Sterling said at once. "You don’t have to wait for me. If you have things to do, just go to the office."

"It’s fine. I’m not in a hurry." Jasper Lockwood’s tone was firm.

Chloe Sterling didn’t say anything more and hurried into the bathroom to wash up.

Watching her leave, Jasper Lockwood’s eyes darkened. ’So the person she was begging not to leave in her dream was Silas Coldwell. She’d saved him before, ignoring the danger, and now she was begging him not to leave in her dreams. Even if they’d never been in a romantic relationship, Silas Coldwell still occupied a place in Chloe’s heart.’

At this thought, Jasper felt a crushing weight on his chest, heavy and suffocating.

When Chloe Sterling came out after washing up, she saw his expression was grim and asked, "What’s wrong? You don’t look well."

After a moment of silence, Jasper Lockwood finally said, "It’s nothing. I just didn’t sleep well last night."

"Why not?"

"Probably because... I dreamed about someone I hate."

"..."

"If you’re ready, let’s go downstairs for breakfast," Jasper Lockwood said again.

"Let’s skip it and just go."

"No!" Jasper Lockwood’s face was stern, his tone leaving no room for refusal. "We’re eating breakfast before we go."

Chloe Sterling had no idea that she had said something misleading in her sleep, much less that Jasper Lockwood had overheard her. She only felt that he was acting strangely this morning.

In the end, they still ate breakfast before leaving.

「Crimson Wing Dojo.」

Chase Langdon was training with Damian Rivers when he saw Chloe Sterling walk in and immediately stopped.

"Young Master Rivers, you can practice on your own for a bit." After saying that, Chase Langdon looked at Chloe. "Chloe, let’s go upstairs."

Chloe Sterling gave a slight nod.

Damian Rivers rolled his shoulders and said, "I’m done training. I’m tired anyway, so I’ll take a break."

"That works."

As Chase Langdon and Chloe Sterling started up the stairs, Damian Rivers immediately followed them.

Seeing him following, Chase Langdon stopped in his tracks, turned around, and smiled. "Young Master Rivers, your lounge is downstairs."

"I know." Damian Rivers continued up the stairs, a grin playing on his lips. "But I prefer your office. By the way, you still have some of that tea I brought last time, right?"

He kept walking as he spoke, passed the two of them, and pushed the door to Chase Langdon’s office open, walking right in.

Chloe Sterling glanced sideways at Chase Langdon. "Seems like you two have been getting along well recently."

"Uh..." Chase Langdon said. "Damian Rivers is actually not a bad guy."

The two of them walked into the office to find Damian Rivers already sitting unceremoniously at the coffee table, starting to brew tea.

Seeing his clumsy movements, Chase Langdon immediately went over. "Here, let me do it."

Damian Rivers didn’t stand on ceremony with him, scooting aside to make room.

Chase Langdon was very skilled at brewing tea, having accumulated experience from making it for his master in the past. The brew was perfectly balanced, and its fragrance filled the air.

Chloe Sterling lifted her teacup, took a sip, and praised, "This tea is really good."

Damian Rivers immediately said, "If you like it, I can give you some."

"This is the tea Young Master Rivers brought," Chase Langdon said. "It’s worth over a hundred thousand an ounce. Of course it’s good."

Chloe Sterling raised her eyebrows. "No wonder."

"But even good tea needs someone who understands it to bring out its true flavor," Damian Rivers said.

Chase Langdon chuckled. "Are you complimenting me?"

"I’m just stating a fact," Damian Rivers said. "I have a lot more tea at home. If you like it, I’ll bring it all for you. It’s just sitting there anyway."

"Better not," Chase Langdon said. "That’s too extravagant."

"It’s just a little tea. It’s nothing," Damian Rivers said.

Watching the two of them, Chloe Sterling felt for a moment that she was a bit of a third wheel.

"By the way, did you go to Country E a few days ago?" Damian Rivers asked Chloe Sterling.

"How did you know?" As the words left her mouth, Chloe Sterling immediately looked at Chase Langdon.

Chase Langdon got nervous and accidentally choked on his tea, immediately starting to cough.

Seeing his guilty expression, Chloe Sterling knew he was the one who had said it without even having to ask.

To avoid selling out Chase Langdon, Damian Rivers quickly said, "I guessed. I heard Jasper Lockwood went to Country E, and you’ve been nowhere to be seen lately, so I figured you went with him."

Chase Langdon coughed for a while before finally stopping.

Chloe Sterling didn’t press the matter further.

Damian Rivers added, "You and Jasper Lockwood are putting on a pretty convincing act!"

He was still convinced the two of them were just acting.

Chloe Sterling took a sip of her tea and said nothing. She didn’t feel the need to explain herself to him.

"How did you like Country E? Want to go again? I’m heading to Country E tomorrow, you could come with me," Damian Rivers added.

"I don’t want to," Chloe Sterling said.

"You’re going to Country E?" Chase Langdon asked.

"Yeah, leaving tomorrow," Damian Rivers said. "I’m going there to find someone. Lynn Chester."

A look of surprise crossed Chase Langdon’s face. "You’re looking for Lynn Chester? Is... someone in your family sick?"

"No, I just want to buy some medicine from her. I heard she’s been in Country E recently and even cured the old matriarch of the Lancaster Family. Our family has some connections with the Lancasters, so I plan to go over and look for her."

Chase Langdon glanced at Chloe Sterling, then added, "I hear Lynn Chester doesn’t stay in one place for too long. By the time you get there, she’ll probably be long gone."

"Maybe, but I still have to go and see. What if she’s still there? She’s incredibly mysterious, and it’s usually very difficult to find her, so I have to make the trip."

"Why didn’t you go when she was treating someone at the Lancaster Family’s home?"

"It was a last-minute plan."

After a brief pause, Chase Langdon asked again, "What... what medicine are you trying to buy? I actually have a friend who can get in touch with her. If you trust me, I can help you."

Hearing this, Damian Rivers immediately sat up straight, somewhat surprised. "You can contact Lynn Chester?"

"She might not show up herself, but I can get you the medicine you want."

"I want a spirit pill. Can you ask her for me if she has any left?"

"A spirit pill..." Chase Langdon shook his head. "You can forget about that."

"Why?"

"Spirit pills contain Thousand-year-old Spirit Grass. They’re not something you can just whip up. There were only about ten of them made in the whole world, and she ran out a long time ago."

"How do you know?" Damian Rivers asked suspiciously.

Chase Langdon took a sip of tea and said nonchalantly, "Because you’re not the first person who’s wanted a spirit pill."

It was true that Chloe Sterling had no more spirit pills. She hadn’t produced many to begin with; she had given a few away as gifts, sold a few, and used the rest to save people.

Chase Langdon suddenly stood up, walked over to his desk, opened the safe, and took out two small porcelain vials. He then returned and handed them to Damian Rivers. "Here, take these. They’re not as good as a spirit pill, but they can neutralize over a thousand types of poison and treat certain blood diseases."

Chloe Sterling glanced at the small porcelain vials in Chase Langdon’s hand. She had given them to him not long ago, and now he was giving them to Damian Rivers right in front of her.

’Their friendship is heating up pretty fast.’

Damian Rivers took the vials. "This is..."

"This is also a medicine developed by Lynn Chester," Chase Langdon said.

"Where did you get it? How much was it?"

"A friend gave it to me. It’s free. Just take it."

After a moment’s pause, Damian Rivers said, "I can’t just accept this."

Chase Langdon chuckled. "I’ve been drinking your tea that’s worth over a hundred thousand an ounce. Just consider this me returning the favor."

"It’s just some tea," Damian Rivers said. "How can it compare to this medicine?"

"Although this medicine is effective, it’s not considered particularly precious," Chase Langdon said.

Chloe Sterling was speechless.

’Some senior brother he is.’

"By the way, you really shouldn’t go to Country E," Chase Langdon advised. "Even if you go, you won’t find Lynn Chester. She never stays in one place for that long."

"Don’t tell me your friend knows her whereabouts too?"

"Uh... no, definitely not."

Glancing at the porcelain vials in his hand, Damian Rivers said sincerely, "Thanks."
