On the Day I Was Kicked Out of the Wealthy Family, I Had a Flash Marriage with a Tycoon-Chapter 91: Gunsmoke Fills the Air
"Wait," Silas Coldwell said again. "Have the helicopter land on the roof of the Lockwood Group building."
Zane Stratton was taken aback for a moment. "You mean we’re departing from there?"
Silas Coldwell merely shot him a sideways glance and said nothing.
There was trouble at headquarters, so he had to go back. But he couldn’t just leave like this.
Having followed Silas Coldwell for so many years, Zane Stratton understood his meaning with a single look and immediately went to carry out the order.
「One hour later.」
On the rooftop of Lockwood Plaza.
Two tall figures stood facing each other. The air crackled with tension.
"You said you believed me and acted like you didn’t care, but I bet you were seething behind my back, right?" Silas Coldwell chuckled. "President Lockwood, you’re a little impatient."
Jasper Lockwood eyed him coolly, his thin lips parting. "Seething? Not quite. I just don’t want to see you again." With that, he glanced at the helicopter parked nearby, his tone dripping with sarcasm. "Have a safe trip, President Coldwell. Hope you have a smooth flight."
Wishing an aircraft a "smooth flight" isn’t exactly a good thing.
Silas Coldwell’s eyes narrowed. "Jasper Lockwood, don’t get cocky. This isn’t over between us. I’ll take Lynn Chester away sooner or later!"
Jasper Lockwood’s sharp eyes turned icy. "Dream on."
"Then we’ll just have to wait and see if I’m dreaming or not," Silas Coldwell sneered, turning and walking toward the helicopter.
Zane Stratton was standing by the helicopter. He waited for Silas to board before getting on himself.
The roar of the rotors filled the air as the helicopter slowly ascended into the sky.
Jasper Lockwood’s deep eyes were like ice. He stood there for a long moment before slowly turning around.
Inside the plaza, people were whispering amongst themselves.
"What’s going on? Why would the head of the Nocturne Group come to our company? Isn’t he President Lockwood’s mortal enemy?"
"You don’t think he came to declare war, do you?"
"Huh? Declare war?! This brazenly? He landed a helicopter on our roof! Don’t tell me he’s..."
"He’s what?"
"I heard the Nocturne Group is involved in some deadly business on the side. You don’t think he’s planning to blow up our building, do you?"
"...You’ve been watching too many movies! It’s just business competition. It wouldn’t go that far."
"It’s leaving, it’s leaving! The helicopter is gone. It looks like everything’s fine."
Jasper Lockwood had just returned to his office when his phone rang. It was a call from Old Master Lockwood.
He answered immediately. "Grandpa."
"Jasper, I heard that Silas Coldwell from the Nocturne Group went straight to headquarters today. What’s going on?"
Old Master Lockwood knew Jasper Lockwood had issues with the Nocturne Group—it was inevitable in the business world—but the Nocturne Group’s actions today were far too brazen.
"It was nothing. He just said a few words before he left," Jasper Lockwood replied calmly.
"Just a few words?" The old master was stunned. "Don’t you have a feud with him? Is it resolved?"
"Grandpa, you should focus on resting. You don’t need to worry about these things."
"The Nocturne Group isn’t some ordinary power. I’m just trying to remind you to be extra careful with them."
"I know."
"Alright, then I won’t ask any more questions. You handle it. Grandpa trusts in your abilities."
After hanging up, Jasper Lockwood put down his phone, his sharp eyes fixed on his desk as he fell into deep thought.
’What I’ve done can only delay Silas Coldwell for a while, not forever. Once he resolves his issues, he’ll be back. He’s gone to great lengths to find Chloe Sterling, wanting her to join the Nocturne Group. He won’t give up so easily.’
At this thought, Jasper Lockwood’s expression grew even colder.
’Forget Silas Coldwell, not even God himself could take Chloe Sterling away from me.’
’Chloe is mine. She always will be.’
...
Chloe Sterling and the others arrived at the foot of a mountain, the car stopping in front of a courtyard house.
Chase Langdon said, "This is my family’s old house. No one’s lived here for a long time, but I had someone come and clean it beforehand, so it’s spotless."
Jean Kensington got out of the car holding the baby. As someone who grew up in Crestfall, this was the first time she had seen an old house like this at the foot of a mountain. About two hundred meters from the house, a small stream flowed down from the mountain.
"The scenery here is really nice. Chase, Chloe, did you two used to live like this?"
"Yeah." Chloe Sterling got out of the car too. "My adoptive mother’s house is too small to fit all of us, so let’s stay at Chase’s place tonight."
Jean Kensington looked at Chase Langdon and asked, "So where does your family live now?"
Chase Langdon said, "I bought them a house in Crestfall. They’re living in Crestfall now too."
"Oh." Jean Kensington nodded.
The baby pointed a small finger at the nearby mountain and stream.
Jean Kensington asked, "Do you want to go have a look?"
The baby immediately nodded.
"How about we take our things inside first, and then come back out?"
The baby nodded.
Jean Kensington put the baby down, grabbed her bag from the car, and then went to the trunk to get the suitcases.
Just then, Chloe Sterling came over. "I’ll get them." With that, she crisply lifted out two suitcases.
Jean Kensington watched her with immense admiration. Her own suitcase was large and heavy, yet Chloe Sterling had lifted it out with one hand, effortlessly, as if it were empty.
"Let’s go. Let’s take a look inside."
"Okay."
Chloe Sterling pulled the two suitcases while Jean Kensington held her backpack and the baby’s hand, and the three of them walked into the courtyard together.
Chase Langdon followed behind, also pulling a suitcase and carrying quite a few things in his hands.
In the car behind them, a few bodyguards wanted to get out and help with the luggage, but they remembered Chloe Sterling’s orders: unless there was an incident, they were not to get close to her. After a moment’s hesitation, they ultimately stayed put, watching the group walk into the courtyard.
Chase Langdon’s family courtyard was quite large, with six rooms and a small vegetable garden, though it was overgrown with weeds instead of vegetables.
Jean Kensington looked around and said, "Chase, your family’s house is pretty big. You must be considered a wealthy family around here."
Chase Langdon smiled. "Not really. Land in the countryside isn’t worth much. Go on in and pick your rooms."
Remembering the bodyguards, Chloe Sterling suddenly stopped, walked back out, and waved to the men in the car.
The men immediately got out of the car and came over.
"Ma’am, what are your orders?"
"You guys come inside, too. There are three rooms on the side. You can arrange them amongst yourselves."
A bodyguard immediately replied, "No need, Ma’am. We can just stay in the car. President Lockwood ordered that our main task is to protect you."
"It gets cold in the mountains at night, and wolves sometimes appear. You should come inside."
A young bodyguard asked in surprise, "There are wolves?"
Chloe Sterling: "That’s right."
The bodyguard: "It’s fine. We brought guns."
Chloe Sterling: "..."
In the end, at Chloe Sterling’s insistence, the four men entered the courtyard.
Because no one had lived in the house for a long time, there were only some simple daily necessities. It was impossible to cook, let alone order takeout like in the city, so Chase Langdon had brought a lot of instant food.
Bread, ham, instant noodles, self-heating hot pots, and self-heating rice were distributed among everyone.
Jean Kensington had only brought some clothes, a few daily necessities, and snacks for the baby.
Chloe Sterling was truly worthy of her title as a Pharmacist. Besides clothes and daily necessities, her suitcase was filled with various bottles and jars of medicine and first-aid supplies.
After they had all chosen their rooms, Jean Kensington couldn’t wait to take the baby to play in the stream outside.
Chloe Sterling wanted to go back and see her adoptive mother’s courtyard, so she had a bodyguard follow the other two.
Jean Kensington said, "Is that necessary? It’s right outside the door. What danger could there be?"
Before Chloe Sterling could speak, the young bodyguard from earlier said, "There are wolves around here."
Chloe Sterling: "..."
