Chapter 47: Sophia’s Feeling (4)

Sophia was very surprised. She wondered what sudden work Adam had. Sophia was just looking at Adam. Monty sat down next to Sophia. The train started to move forward. Sophia was thinking what work Adam could have. But at the same time she was also thinking that Monty should not start bothering her on this topic now.

Just then Monty said seriously "He likes you."

Hearing this Sophia immediately looked at Monty. "I have told you before not to joke like this," she said.

Usually when Monty used to talk like this in the past Sophia used to laugh it off. But now Monty was not taking her words as a joke. In fact she was not laughing. Her face was very serious. Just then Sophia said "Are you serious? It’s not like that as you are thinking. We are just..."

But Monty did not let Sophia complete her sentence. "It is clearly written in his eyes that he likes you," she said.

Hearing this Sophia started looking the other way. "You can’t say anything," she said. "Even if you have a boyfriend and you have a little experience what do you know about Adam?"

Just then Monty said immediately "Even if I don’t know much about Adam but I know this much that he likes you." This time Sophia did not say anything. She started looking at the floor of the train. She was lost in thought.

Just then Monty’s friend and Monty’s boyfriend came in front of them. After the train arrived at the next station. Monty’s boyfriend immediately said "You two are talking very seriously. You look like it."

Monty stood up after seeing her boyfriend. She hugged him. But Monty’s words were still running in Sophia’s mind.

We see Adam. He was still sitting on a bench at the station where he had got off. He was thinking What nonsense. Will I have to face those people every day like this? Which I don’t want. But Adam also did not want to lose this special moment of coming and spending time with Sophia.

Just then Adam opened his One-Click Billionaire app. He looked at it. The sadness on his face immediately turned into happiness. Because in front of him was an amount of 156 billion dollars. Adam was very happy. "If this continues I will cross a trillion in a few days," he said. But he was very scared of 100 trillion. Just then Adam thought that he had to set some things in the beginning.

Just as Adam arrived at the station a train appeared in front of him. He climbed aboard and eventually made his way back home. When he got there he noticed that Sophia was not in her apartment.

He heard loud noises coming from a lower floor. Adam sighed deeply. He did not want to see anyone else. He quietly headed into his own apartment.

Meanwhile downstairs Monty her boyfriend Tony and his friend Robin were all hanging out together in Monty’s apartment. At one point Monty gestured toward her boyfriend.

She then subtly signaled his friend to leave the room for a bit. The friend Robin understood though reluctantly. He had been sitting beside Sophia clearly trying to talk to her for as long as possible. He got up and left with Monty’s boyfriend.

But Sophia’s mind was still occupied with Monty’s earlier words. Her head was a mess of confusion and budding hope.

As soon as the two guys left Sophia turned toward Monty. She had to ask. "Are you really telling the truth?"

Monty who had been cooking placed a plate of food in front of Sophia. "I’m not 100% sure," she replied her voice serious. "But I’d say there’s a 90% chance I’m right. I really think he likes you."

For Sophia that remaining 10% doubt felt overwhelmingly negative. It was a chasm of uncertainty. Still she said nothing. She just stared at her plate of food.

Then Monty said something else. Something that instantly grabbed Sophia’s full attention. "Did you know," Monty began leaning closer. "That he suddenly got off the train at the same station where I boarded?"

Sophia looked up. "He told me he had work," she replied. "That’s why he left."

But Monty raised a finger. She wagged it with a knowing smile. "No," she said. "Even if you like him you’re clearly missing the signs. You’re too close to him to see it clearly. He didn’t have any work. He left because he saw me. He left because he knew Robin and Tony would be there."

Normally Sophia would brush off such comments. But today she was focused on figuring out why Adam left so abruptly. So she listened.

Monty smiled knowingly. "So you admit it," she said pouncing on Sophia’s silence. "You like him."

Sophia snapped out of her thoughts. She shook her head quickly. "No it’s not like that," she said a little too forcefully.

But before she could finish Monty cut her off. "The sooner you accept your feelings the better," she said her voice now firm. "You have to understand this is a battlefield. Right now he’s single. But that may not last. And if you keep hesitating in this dilemma whether you like him or not you might lose him completely. Once he’s gone you’ll regret it."

Sophia looked down. She was clearly conflicted. She did not know what to do. Monty’s words were hitting too close to home.

Monty sat beside her. She put a comforting hand on her shoulder. "From what I’ve noticed," she said gently.

"Adam seems to get more irritated with my boyfriend and especially his friend than he does with anyone else."

Sophia looked surprised. "Irritated?" she asked. "But why?"

Monty replied "Honestly I didn’t get it at first either. Why do guys act like that? But I’m starting to understand now. Ever since I got into a relationship myself I’ve noticed it more clearly. It’s jealousy."

Before she could finish her thought Tony and Robin returned to the room. Robin was yelling toward Monty’s boyfriend. "I don’t want to leave!" he said in a playful but insistent tone. "I’m staying right here!"

As Sophia watched them enter Monty’s words echoed in her mind. Adam gets irritated when you’re with them. Suddenly her mind replayed all those moments.

When Adam saw her with them and acted distant. When he shut his door in her face. She finally realized that yes he had been behaving coldly. He had been trying to ignore her. He had been pushing her away.

Monty trying to ease the tension looked at her boyfriend and motioned for him to take his friend outside. But the friend Robin refused. He gestured helplessly as if to say "He’s out of my control."

Sophia suddenly stood up. She grabbed her bag. "I just remembered," she announced her voice a little shaky. "I have something important to do at school tomorrow. I need to leave early."

Monty understood immediately. She knew Sophia was trying to get away.

But before Sophia could leave Robin grabbed her hand. "I can come with you," he said with a charming smile. "Maybe I can help you with your work?"

The moment he grabbed her hand Sophia remembered Adam’s face. She remembered that pained uncomfortable expression when he had distanced himself from her. The image was so vivid it was like he was standing right there. She pulled her hand back quickly. Her reaction was sharp and instinctive.

"No," she said her voice firm. She rushed out of the apartment.

The guy Robin stood there stunned. He turned to Monty and her boyfriend confused. "What just happened?" he asked. "Is she mad at me?"

Monty immediately stood to defuse the situation. "Forget it," she said with a bright smile. "Let’s eat! I made something special today!" Her boyfriend joined in trying to distract his friend and steer things away from that awkward moment.

Meanwhile Sophia rushed upstairs her mind still clouded with confusion. Why didn’t Adam just tell me if he felt that way? she wondered. It was all so complicated.

As she reached her apartment she noticed the light in Adam’s apartment was on. He was home. But even now as she stood at her own door Monty’s words would not stop echoing in her head. He likes you. Was it true? She did not know.
