One Night Stand With Alexander Blackwood-Chapter 107: Torn Between
Serena and Alexander were the ones remaining in the ward. Miles had returned home. Elias and Thomas returned to the company.
And as for Grace, Alexander didn’t care where she went. As long as she was far away, then he didn’t care. 𝑓𝘳𝘦𝑒𝑤𝑒𝘣𝘯ℴ𝘷𝘦𝓁.𝑐𝑜𝑚
"She’s clear. She can be discharged now." The doctor said as he unplugged the intravenous drip.
Serena rubbed her arm, and let out a sigh of relief. "I thought I’d stay the night." She chuckled while flexing her muscle.
The doctor bowed slightly then walked out of the ward leaving behind Alexander and Serena.
He helped her up as he declared, "I’ll be taking you home."
Serena was taken aback. "Home? Which home?"
Alexander didn’t answer, instead he gave her a pointed stare.
"Do... do you mean your home?" She asked, widening her eyes slightly as she walked with his help.
"But Grandfather..." She trailed off, thinking about the disappointment Miles was about to face.
"You don’t have to worry about Grandpa Miles. I’ll speak with him." Alexander led her to the elevator. "I can’t be rest assured if you are not by my side. I’m worried." He confessed.
Serena hesitated, fingers brushing the rail. "Alexander... I don’t know if I should—"
"You don’t have to," he interrupted softly, his eyes steady on hers. "But if we wait any longer, you won’t be completely safe until I know who orchestrated today’s incident."
Her chest tightened. Her grandfather’s words echoed in her mind: I want you to stay here... for my sake. She knew how much he worried, how much he cared. The thought of disappointing him pressed against her. He has just found her, but now...
"I... I can’t just ignore Grandpa," she said slowly, gaze dropping. "He’s worried about me."
"I know," Alexander replied quietly, stepping closer but keeping a respectful distance. "And I’ll talk to him. You don’t need to make this decision alone."
Serena swallowed hard. Her mind raced as she thought about how Miles had prepared the house for her return, offered comfort, guidance, protection... yet tonight, Alexander was the one actively shielding her. She bit her lip, feeling the weight of responsibility.
Her lips pressed into a thin line, nodding reluctantly. "Okay... but we must tell Grandpa soon."
"You will." His voice carried certainty, a quiet assurance that left no room for argument.
The elevator doors opened, and Alexander led her through the hospital corridors. Serena kept close, heart racing, torn between relief and lingering fear.
She didn’t fully relax until she was safely in the car, the seatbelt clicking into place. The city lights reflected off the windshield, painting fleeting gold streaks across her face.
She exhaled, hands clasped together in her lap. "I hope Grandpa will understand..."
Alexander glanced at her, eyes unreadable. "He will. I’ll speak to him. Right now, the priority is keeping you safe."
Serena nodded, but the unease didn’t fully lift. She was still worried about Miles, about disappointing him. And yet, she couldn’t ignore the reality of the threat, the chase, the near accident and about how she could have lost her life. She leaned back slightly, eyelids fluttering, trying to steady her thoughts.
Alexander started the car, hands firm on the wheel, eyes scanning the streets.
For a moment, they drove in tense silence, the unspoken weight between them as heavy as the night air outside.
Serena’s mind was torn between her grandfather’s concern and her unwavering instinct to trust Alexander, but she knew one thing, she had to make the right choice tonight.
------------------------
The car glided through the city streets, the soft hum of the engine filling the space between them. Streetlights cast fleeting shadows across Serena’s face, and for the first time since the accident, she let out a deep breath.
Alexander’s hands were steady on the wheel, eyes fixed on the road ahead. He said nothing, but Serena felt his presence like a protective shield, reassuring and grounding.
She wanted to speak, to break the silence, but words felt unnecessary. They were both wrapped in the quiet, each lost in their own thoughts, yet were aware about each other’s presence.
She stole a glance at him. The sharp lines of his jaw softened in the dim glow of the dashboard. His brow, usually tense with calculation, was relaxed. And for a moment, Serena felt the weight of the night lift, replaced by a quiet comfort she hadn’t realized she craved since the incident earlier.
Her mind drifted back to Miles. The thought of disappointing him gnawed at her, yet she knew staying behind would not have been the right choice. Alexander had insisted, and she had chosen to trust him with her safety.
Minutes passed. The car drove through quiet streets, then into the private drive of Alexander’s estate. The tall gates swung open smoothly, revealing the familiar home against the night sky. Serena’s chest was filled with relief.
Alexander parked, the sound of the engine fading into silence. He turned to look at her briefly.
Serena offered a small nod, a silent acknowledgment of the unspoken understanding between them.
She unbuckled her seatbelt, hands trembling slightly as she retrieved her phone from her bag.
She dialed a number on her phone while she braced herself for his reaction. The line clicked, then his familiar voice came through
"Serena? Are you alright? I heard you were discharged. Are you on your way home?"
"I’m fine, Grandpa," she said, voice steady, though her heart ached a little. "I’m at Alexander’s."
"I see.".His tone softened, but the disappointment was evident in his voice. "I understand. You’re your own person and I trust your judgment. Just promise me you’ll be careful."
"I will," she whispered, a small smile forming. "Thank you, Grandpa. I’ll call when I get some rest."
"You better," he said, a faint chuckle in his voice. "Goodnight, Serena."
She hung up, feeling a mixture of relief and lingering guilt. Turning to Alexander, she found him watching her from the driver’s seat.
"Grandpa understands," she said softly.
Alexander’s lips curved into a small, approving smile. "I told you so."
He finally stepped out, opening her door with a careful hand. "Come on. Let’s get you settled."
The night was calm. The silence of the estate, the soft glow of the hallway lights, and the unspoken reassurance between them wrapped around Serena like a cocoon. For the first time since the chaos of the last twenty-four hours, she felt safe.
And Alexander? He allowed himself a moment of satisfaction for the simple fact that Serena was here, with him, and for now, that was enough.
Having her close to him was more than enough.
