One Night Stand With Alexander Blackwood-Chapter 89 — Eighty-nine
While Maya struggled to fall asleep, Cody was seated in his office, his gaze fixed on a picture of her.
"Maya," he chanted her name repeatedly as though it was a ritual required for him.
Then, he picked his phone and dialed a number which was picked up after a few consecutive rings.
"You better have something important to say. I don’t like late night calls, and you’re disturbing my rest." A cold voice sounded from the other end, causing Cody to freeze.
"Relax, Alex." He laughed awkwardly. It turns out it was Alexander he called. "And besides, you’re a workaholic. It’s just 12am. You don’t sleep till 3am, remember?"
Alexander rolled his eyes. "What do you want? Serena doesn’t like me staying up late." e explained.
Cody chuckled, a trace of teasing in his tone. "So this is about Serena." He commented.
"If you have nothing to say, then I’ll be hanging up then." Alexander threatened.
"Wait a minute, I have something to say." Cody shouted, stopping him. "It is about Maya."
Alexander’s eyes narrowed. "Don’t even think about it." Alexander warned. He normally didn’t care about Cody’s antics. But this was Maya, Serena’s best friend.
If she was hurt by Cody, Serena would undeniably be hurt, and he didn’t want to see her in pain. As these thoughts flashed through his mind, he stopped Cody without hearing what he had to say.
"Would you listen to what I have to say first?" Cody rubbed his forehead, feeling exasperated.
"Fine, what do you have to say?" Alexander asked. His eyes drifted to Serena who was sleeping soundly, and he quietly exited the room.
"The thing is, she feels different. She is the first person to make my heart move the way it did when I first saw," Cody paused, exhaling. "I don’t know, man. I feel curious about her. I want to know more about her. I see something in her eyes. Like a moth attracted to a frame, so am I. I don’t know what to do." 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝒆𝒘𝙚𝓫𝙣𝙤𝒗𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
Alexander listened to him quietly, and varying expressions crossed his face. "Are you sure about this? Remember the last girl you dated for two days, you said the same thing about her, but dumped her after several explorations." Alexander commented.
"Maya is different!" Cody protested in reply. "I know my reputation is bad, but she could be the one. I have that strange, yet firm belief."
"And besides, my parents have been urging me to get a girlfriend. Maya is the first girl I believe I have some sort of attraction to."
Alexander’s brow was lifted the entire time Cody was speaking. After a while. he asked, "what do you need me for?"
Cody’s lips curled up as he sat up straight. "I know she and Serena are best friends. Perhaps, Serena could convince Maya to go on a date with me? Just a date to get to know each other? Could you do your best friend a favour? Please." Cody pleaded.
"I can’t do that. It is up to you, I believe you have a lot of skills. You can do it." Alexander cheered, but a single smile wasn’t on his lips.
Cody froze. "You aren’t helping your friend with this?" He asked, chuckling bitterly.
"You are an expert in dating. You’ve got this." Without waiting for Cody to answer, Alexander disconnected the call, leaving the former speechless.
Cody stared at his now darkened phone and he laughed mirthlessly, his shoulders trembling. "Alex is really unreliable when it comes to matters like this. I guess I have to do this myself."
Alexander, on the other hand, sneaked back into the room, only to see the bed lamp turned on and Serena was seated on the bed while her gaze remained fixated on the door.
He froze for a heartbeat before he resumed in his steps. He naturally climbed into the bed, pulling Serena into his arms as he murmured. "Why are you awake? You should be sleeping?" He pulled the sheets over them, as he pressed her cheeks to his chest.
"Where were you? I woke up thirsty, but when I looked around, I couldn’t find you." Serena grumbled, complaints evident in her voice.
"I am sorry, I went to pick a call." He waved his phone, before placing it on the bedside table.
Serena raised her head to stare at him... curiously. Alexander could see the curiosity in her eyes, and poked her forehead, before explaining everything to her.
When he was done, Serena had a very complicated expression on her face.
"We have to leave it to both of them. We cannot interfere." Serena muttered, and rubbed her eyes drowsily.
Alexander placed a kiss on her crown, murmuring, "go to sleep."

Morning sunlight streamed into the penthouse through floor-to-ceiling windows, bathing the room in gold.
Cody stood before the mirror, sleeves of his crisp shirt rolled halfway up his forearms, fingers working deftly at the cufflinks. He paused, studying his reflection critically.
"...Not bad," he muttered, admiring himself.
He tilted his head, adjusted his collar, then frowned. "No—too confident. You’ll scare her."
He loosened the top button, then immediately fastened it again, shaking his head. "Too casual. She’ll think you’re unserious."
With a groan, he planted both palms on the marble counter and leaned closer to the mirror. "Get it together, Cody. You’ve handled boardrooms, negotiations, hostile takeovers and also women. It’s just one woman, you can ask her out on a date."
One woman.
His expression softened slightly at the thought.
"Maya is different," he said quietly, almost like a reminder. "So don’t be flashy. Don’t be slick. Just be honest."
He straightened, ran a hand through his hair once, then nodded as if satisfied with the pep talk.
"You’re not too shabby," he added with a faint grin. "And she also told you her name. That counts for something."
He picked up his keys, confidence settling into place. Today, he’d ask.
And whatever her answer was... he’d take it like the man he was.
Maya, on the other hand, was awoken by knocking on her door. She placed a pillow over her head, hoping the knocks would leave, but it only became frantic.
"Urgh!" She screamed angrily, throwing the bedsheet away from her body.
She pulled her sleeves up, her face unable to hide the annoyance from being awakened.
She opened the door, and was about to berate the person when she froze in place.
"Y-you," she stammered, her eyes betraying her fear.
"I told you, I’ll find you."
