Chapter 21 - Sea Beasts Feel No Pain!

However, the massive sea cow, Moo Moo, paid no attention whatsoever to the three humans aboard the ship.

The moment it emerged from the water, its eyes locked onto the grilled meat on the deck, completely ignoring everything else.

Standing in the shadow beneath Moo Moo, Will suddenly spoke:

"Over the past two years, I've encountered many sea beasts."

"And after countless battles with them, I've come to a shocking conclusion."

"Every living creature feels pain when attacked—except sea beasts!"

"Because every time I knock one down with a single punch, they never let out so much as a scream!"

Just as Moo Moo was about to snap its jaws shut around the pile of grilled meat, an overwhelming sense of malice crashed down on it from all directions.

A shiver ran down its massive body, and beads of cold sweat formed on its forehead.

When Moo Moo snapped back to awareness and looked down, the larger human had already vanished.

Before it could react, Will had already appeared beside its head, raising a powerful arm.

Iron Block: Iron Elbow!

BANG—!

A thunderous impact echoed across the sea.

Will's elbow, as if it were a siege weapon, slammed brutally into Moo Moo's skull!

In an instant, its head caved inward before swelling up with a massive lump.

Its pupils trembled violently before rolling back, leaving only the whites visible. Its mouth hung open, yet no sound escaped.

Then, with a mighty splash, the sea cow collapsed backward into the ocean, its massive body sending waves surging into the sky.

Plop.

With the sea beast taken care of, Will landed steadily on the deck, casually slipping his hands back into his pockets. With a serious expression, he reaffirmed:

"Even after taking a full-force blow from me, it didn't make a sound. Sea beasts really don't feel pain."

Hearing this, Nami couldn't help but roll her eyes and quip:

"Uh... is it possible that it didn't scream simply because it didn't have time to?"

"Exactly!" Karina nodded vigorously in agreement.

"No way," Will immediately dismissed their theory. "You two are seriously underestimating the resilience of sea beasts."

Not bothering to argue further, he sat back down, picked up his grilled meat, and continued eating as if nothing had happened.

Nami and Karina exchanged helpless glances before shrugging and joining him.

After all, whether sea beasts felt pain or not wasn't something that particularly mattered to them.

--

Once they had eaten their fill, the three ignored the still-floating Moo Moo and resumed their voyage towards the Conomi Islands.

--

Not long after, they successfully docked and stepped ashore.

However, as soon as they set foot on land, their eyes widened in shock.

Before them lay a scene of utter devastation—a desolate, ruined ghost town.

"W-What happened here?!"

Nami stared in disbelief at the once-familiar town, unable to comprehend how it had turned into this.

"This... is the Gosa Town you mentioned?" Will asked as he surveyed the area. He saw no signs of life, and even after using his senses to scan the surroundings, he detected nothing.

It was clear—this town had long been abandoned.

Karina crossed her arms, her expression grim. "This place looks far worse than Orange Town."

The once-thriving port town was now in complete ruin. Every house had been ripped from its foundations and flipped upside down, their rooftops buried in the dirt. The streets were utterly destroyed, as if a massive creature had plowed through them.

Nami quickly regained her composure and said urgently, "Let's go to my house and find my sister. She should know what happened here."

"And we need to find out what's going on with the fish-men. I haven't been back in a while, so I don't even know if Arlong is still in Arlong Park."

Will and Karina had no objections.

Without further delay, they followed Nami westward through the town.

--

After trekking through a dense forest, the trio arrived at an orange grove.

Here, Nami's tense expression visibly eased.

They walked deeper into the orchard until they spotted a short-haired girl with blue hair, picking oranges from a tree.

A smile flashed across Nami's face. She waved excitedly and called out, "Nojiko!"

"Hm?"

Hearing the familiar voice, Nojiko turned around in surprise. "Nami?!"

Her gaze then landed on the tall, strikingly handsome man standing behind her sister.

He was at least a meter taller than her.

A thought flashed through her mind as she sized him up:

"This guy... might even be taller than Arlong."

With a teasing smirk, she crossed her arms and shifted her gaze back to Nami.

"Well, well, look at you, Nami. You're all grown up now, even bringing a man home."

Then, with a mischievous glint in her eye, she added, "With a build like that, are you sure you can handle him?"

Nami, who had been about to speak, flushed red at Nojiko's words. "Nojiko! What nonsense are you talking about?!"

"He's... my captain. And my savior. He saved my life not too long ago."

"Oh?" Nojiko's expression shifted slightly. She turned to Will and sincerely said, "Thank you for saving Nami. I really appreciate it."

"No problem." Will gave a brief nod, saying little else.

Then, without hesitation, he wandered over to the orange trees and plucked a few ripe fruits.

He tossed two to Karina before popping one into his own mouth—peel and all.

As the juice burst in his mouth, his eyes lit up. "Not bad. These oranges are sweet."

Nojiko blinked in surprise before chuckling. "Glad you like them."

Then, as if suddenly remembering something, she turned to Nami and asked curiously:

"Wait a second, Nami. Did you just say he's your captain?"

"But weren't you with Arlong's crew?"

At those words, Nami's expression hardened. She got straight to the point:

"It's like this..."

A short while later.

"WHAT?! He's planning to take down Arlong and the fish-men?!"

After hearing Nami's explanation, Nojiko whipped her head toward Will, her face filled with disbelief.

"That's right." Nami nodded firmly. "That's why we came to see you—to find out what Arlong's gang has been up to lately."

Nojiko's mind was in turmoil.

She had been overjoyed when her sister returned home.

But never in her wildest dreams did she expect Nami to abandon her years of painstaking efforts to buy back their village—all because she placed her trust in this man.

She had always supported her sister's decisions.

But could she believe that a human—any human—could defeat the monstrous fish-men?

After all, her and Nami's mother, Bell-mère, had been brutally slaughtered by Arlong himself.
