Only I Am A Reader-Chapter 605: The Eleventh Floor!
’How?’
As a hunter that has already set her mind on a prey, the Thorn Queen was fully prepared to study every detail of Aurora’s life pattern, all in order to find her point of entry.
No matter how strong or invincible they were, every magnificent creature always ended up having some sort of weak point.
A tortoise’s indestructible shell would end up becoming useless once flipped on its back. The mighty T-Rex had short forearms, making it incapable of proper combat performance in narrow spaces.
Whether it was a long-lived fortress or an Apex Predator, there was no such thing as absolute invincibility, and the Thorn Queen was precisely targeting this aspect.
However...
’Is this even possible?’
The scenes she observed during their exploration of the White Gate made her question that elden fact.
Originally, as a Gate that required Aurora to combat many opponents that only seemed to get stronger, this was supposed to be the perfect chance to deeply study Aurora’s combat patterns.
Unfortunately, no matter how close the Thorn Queen looked, Aurora showed no practical openings... At least none that she and her sisters could exploit.
’No... Is she actually getting stronger?’
When dealing with the first few floors, Aurora annihilated everything within seconds, but as the enemies grew stronger, she applied her Ability in ways that the Thorn Queen couldn’t have imagined.
The way Aurora was handling her Ability was unbelievably versatile, making Yvonne start to think that she had a counter to every possible attack she would receive.
Furthermore, rather than ending up drained of Enigma, even after they passed the tenth floor, Aurora’s energy levels were still roughly the same.
Through continued application, she had somehow become capable of drawing more power from the same amount of Enigma.
Coupled with her monstrous passive Enigma Regeneration, this made it so her energy consumption virtually amounted to nothing.
’No... No... No...’
Once again, the Thorn Queen ended up falling into shock, evoking worry from the Thorn Princess.
However, as meaningless bystanders, no one really paid them any heed.
Even though she had yet to break any real sweat, having just managed to reach the eleventh floor, Aurora no longer appeared relaxed.
Her first guess that the Gate would be cleared by the tenth floor was proven wrong, so the opponents that would appear next were likely to be quite the challenge.
"Haaaa."
’Let’s do this.’
Looking at the gigantic figures of white light materializing in front of her, Aurora took a deep breath and gave herself a mental push.
Pushing through, this had always been her way of life.
The reality that she had to face as of late couldn’t change that aspect of her.
So, whatever this Gate threw at her, she would just push through it!
Roarrr!
The over 100 figures, precisely 111, that appeared this time were also humanoid, just like the last 10 floors.
However, this time, the previously large room appeared crowded as the enemies were rather gigantic, making it almost impossible to call them a ’small’ army.
"These are..."
With bodies that were over 4 meters tall and 2 meters wide, with luscious white scales covering their bodies from top to toe, they looked more like giant tank mechas rather than living beings.
"Dragons?"
Roarrrrrrrr!
As if gathering their intents into one, the Dragonoid at the very center let out a deafening battle cry, ready to strike at the foolish aliens who dared challenge the White Tower!
Totally unfazed, Aurora used the same method she used on all the floors to test the enemies’ strength, unleashing yet another bisecting light slash.
Only this time, she tapped the ground, leaping upward in order to make up for the height difference.
Raha!
In an orderly fashion, the four Dragonoids on both sides of the central figure stepped forward.
Spreading their arms to the limit to cover up the entire army behind them, they invoked some sort of crystalline white barrier along the spread of their arms, successfully catching the floor annihilating slash!
"Pretty strong."
At first glance, the guardian Dragonoids thought they had managed to seize the tempo by repelling the enemy’s first strike. Unfortunately...
Sssss...
The slash they thought to have blocked had been merely hindered. It was still grinding at the crystalline barrier without fail.
Naturally, the guardian Dragonoids didn’t dare move, standing their ground to the best of their ability. Only, that ability seemed to have fallen short.
Swish! 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺
Once the light slash melted its way through the barrier, it surged forward, splitting the guardian Dragonoids into two.
However, just doing so used its last bit of momentum and energy. In the end, the 110 Dragonoids had merely been reduced by 4.
Roar!
Enraged, aside from their central figure, all the other Dragonoids rushed forward!
’Is this it?’
Seeing this, the Thorn Queen regained a glimpse of hope. Did Aurora’s inevitable demise finally arrive?
She knew that she was likely to be crushed by anything that Aurora couldn’t handle, but she still cheered for the Dragonoids’ success.
’As long as we can drain her up just before her death...’
With Aurora’s Ability becoming part of the Thorn Trio’s arsenal, as well as the damage that Aurora would cause to the Dragonoid Army before biting the dust, the Thorn Queen was sure that she would be the one to emerge victorious.
Completely erasing the one stain in her life where her unconditional belief in her supremacy had almost crumbled!
"Don’t be in such a rush."
The one presence that Yvonne forgot in her delusions suddenly flared up, releasing their despair-injuring ability!
"This should be more manageable."
With a starry night curtain rising in the middle of the circular floor, the menacing Dragonid Army was suddenly split in two.
From the remaining 107 Dragonoids, only 50 had managed to rush out unhindered; the rest of the army was stuck banging at the mesmerizing wall.
"Thanks, Star."
Although she was confident that she could survive the entire army on her own, Aurora still smiled at Kara with gratitude.
It was quite satisfying to have someone who would constantly have her back, rather than always being the one saving everyone else.
Thankfully for her, that wasn’t the extent of the help that Kara was willing to provide.
"This is just the beginning."
No longer having to hold back as permitted by Leo, Kara was more than ready to unleash her full capabilities!
