Oops Alpha, Wrong Luna-Chapter 21
Chapter 21: Chapter 21
Kael’s POV.
The car rolled to a stop in front of the Shadow Claw packhouse, the sky just turning pink with dawn.
My arm ached where the beam had hit me in the fire, and my throat was still raw from the smoke. I climbed out, my boots heavy on the gravel, and helped my Luna out, her silver gown dirty and torn from our escape.
Her face was pale, her blue eyes tired, but she managed a small smile that made my chest tighten.
I wanted to pull her close, to tell her we were safe now, but then I saw her; Celeste, standing by the packhouse entrance, her dark hair neat, her smile too perfect for this early in the morning.
My gut twisted, suspicion flaring. Why was she here, waiting like she knew we’d come?
I kept my hand on my Luna’s back, guiding her forward, my eyes locked on Celeste. She bowed low, her smile sweet but fake.
"Alpha Kael," she said, her voice smooth, like she was playing a part. "Good to see you." Then her eyes flicked to my Luna, her smile sharpening. ƒreeωebnovel.ƈom
"I need to speak with the Luna. Alone, if that’s okay."
My jaw tightened, my wolf Zeus growling low, uneasy. Celeste was trouble; I knew it in my bones.
Her being here, so early, after the fire at the Fang Pack, felt wrong, like a trap waiting to snap. I opened my mouth to say no, to tell her to leave, but my Luna spoke first, her voice soft but firm.
"I’d like to hear what she has to say," she said, her eyes meeting mine. "Maybe there’s trouble at home."
I stared at her, my heart sinking. She was covering for Celeste, protecting her sister, even though I could see the worry in her eyes.
She didn’t trust Celeste any more than I did, but she was playing the part, keeping up the lie that she was Celeste, not Aria.
My chest ached, a mix of anger and protectiveness. I wanted to argue, to keep her safe, but her eyes pleaded with me, and I couldn’t say no.
"Fine," I said, my voice rough. "I’ll be waiting in the room, Luna." I gave her a long look, trying to tell her without words to be careful, then turned and marched into the packhouse, my boots echoing on the stone floor.
The room was quiet, the air cool compared to the smoky heat of the Fang Pack. I pulled off my torn shirt, wincing as my arm throbbed, the bruise dark and angry.
I grabbed a clean black shirt, my movements quick, my mind racing. Celeste’s presence gnawed at me, like a splinter I couldn’t pull out.
She was up to something, and I didn’t trust her near my Luna. The fire, Nicholas’s clean skin, his weak excuses; it all felt connected, and now Celeste was here, smiling like she owned the place.
My fists clenched, Zeus growling louder, wanting to act, to protect.
A knock at the door snapped me out of my thoughts. I yanked it open, my jaw tight, and found Beta Brian standing there, his brown eyes serious, his hands fidgeting.
"What did you find?" I asked, my voice sharp, stepping back to let him in.
Brian shifted, his face uneasy. "We need more time to figure out the fire," he said, his voice low.
"It’s messy; too much damage to tell what started it yet. Any suspects?" His eyes searched mine, like he knew I was holding something back.
I opened my mouth, the name "Nicholas" on my tongue, but I stopped. I wasn’t sure, not yet.
Accusing an Alpha without proof could start a war, and I wasn’t ready for that, not with my Luna already shaken.
I shook my head, my voice hard. "Just look into the fire. Get me answers fast." My tone left no room for argument, and Brian nodded, bowing slightly.
As he turned to leave, I stopped him, my voice lower. "Wait. One more thing. Look into Aria Thorn. Her likes, dislikes, what she does, everything." My heart pounded, my hands clenching.
I needed to know more about the real Aria, the twin sister my Luna was pretending not to be. I’d suspected she wasn’t Celeste immediately I saw her, her scent, her nervous glances, the way she didn’t act like the polished Luna Celeste was supposed to be.
But I needed proof, needed to understand her.
Brian’s brow furrowed, confusion clear on his face. "Aria Thorn?" he said, his voice hesitant.
"Why do you want to know about your Luna’s twin sister? I mean, shouldn’t you be asking about Celeste..."
I cut him off with a glare, my eyes narrowing, my wolf stirring. "Just do it," I said, my voice low, sharp.
Brian’s mouth snapped shut, his eyes widening. He let out a nervous laugh, trying to lighten the mood.
"Alright, Alpha, I’ll find out," he said, bowing again. He turned and hurried out, the door clicking shut behind him.
The room felt heavy, the air thick with tension. I finished changing, pulling on clean pants and boots, but my mind wouldn’t settle.
Celeste’s smile, Nicholas’s untouched skin, the fire—it all swirled in my head, a puzzle I couldn’t solve. And my Luna, out there with her sister, pretending to be someone she wasn’t.
My chest ached, a mix of worry and something softer, something I didn’t want to name. I cared about her, more than I should, even knowing she was hiding the truth.
I paced the room, my boots thudding on the floor, waiting for her to come back. Hours passed, the sun climbing higher, but she didn’t return.
My worry grew, sharp and heavy, like a stone in my gut. She needed rest after the fire, after everything, and I couldn’t shake the feeling that Celeste was trouble.
I couldn’t wait anymore. I grabbed my jacket, my heart pounding, and left the room, my steps quick, my eyes scanning the halls.
The packhouse was quiet, most wolves still asleep or out on patrol. I headed for the living room, where I figured my Luna might be with Celeste, my hands clenched, my wolf on edge.
I needed to see her, to know she was safe. As I turned a corner, my boots slowing, I heard a voice, low and sharp, coming from a guest room.
The door was slightly open, just a crack, and the words stopped me cold.
"Trust me when I say I’ll make Alpha Kael hate you, Aria."
