Otherworld Advance Team-Chapter 25 - 22 Reunify Again_1
25: Chapter 22: Reunify Again_1
25 -22: Reunify Again_1
The shot came from a nearby enemy soldier who had regained consciousness, using the last of his strength he shakily raised his gun, aimed, and shot at Luo’er’s back.
Luo’er clutched his chest.
The bullet instantly pierced his heart, ripping a hole in his chest.
Blood gushed out like a flood.
It took away his warmth and sapped his strength.
He collapsed to his knees, his body helplessly falling backward.
“Luo’er!”
Tangmo let out a hysterical scream, and despite everything, she ran towards him.
At the moment of Luo’er’s fall, it seemed she also saw Baiyue throw away her rifle and start sprinting towards him.
“Thud!” Luo’er fell into a trench that was as tall as a person, his head brutally hit the wooden wall.
It made his already dizzying consciousness cloud over even more.
He seemed to forget for a moment that he was on a Virtual Battlefield.
His mind was filled with only the desire to survive.
Clutching his wound, he struggled to stagger back up, then leaned against the dugout’s wall attempting to crawl out and look for a medic.
But at this point, he was completely incapable of climbing out of the trench.
One hand over his chest, the other scrabbling in the dirt, but no matter how hard he tried he couldn’t climb up even an inch, and the warm blood flowing from his chest was diminishing.
He felt cold all over, the strength supporting him was gradually fading.
His legs failed to hold him up, and he fell forward in the trench, slowly sliding down.
“Luo’er, grab my hand!” Tangmo threw herself next to the trench and stretched out her hand to pull him out, but she couldn’t reach Luo’er’s outstretched hand.
Every time she got a little closer, Luo’er would slide down further.
“Save me, save me…” Loki looked up feebly at Tangmo over him.
The fear of dying invoked an incomparable desire to live.
It was nothing like his usual composed self.
“Luo’er, give me your hand…” Tangmo choked out, stretching out as far as she could, but no matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t reach his hand.
Large tears trickled down from the corners of her eyes, falling onto Luo’er’s face, clearing a path on his mud-smeared face.
Suddenly, Luo’er felt everything going dark in front of him.
Right after that, he lost his balance completely and fell onto the trench floor.
Following a brief period of darkness, bright sunlight entered his field of vision.
He suddenly felt like he was back amongst the familiar green mountains and waters, basking in the warm sunlight and lush green grass.
Nestled against his parents, he felt so warm and comfortable that he inadvertently let out a smile.
“So tired, just like this…
lets fall asleep like this, so quietly…
and so peacefully, by my father, and my mother…” Said Luo’er to himself, slowly closing his eyes.
“Enough, stop the simulation right now!” Watching the battlefield going on, Luo Qishan finally lost his control and roared out, everyone was shocked and looking at him.
He was suppressing his immense inner grief, his facial muscles spasming intermittently.
“But this is only the first time, there’s more coming up afterwards…” said the Colonel, his face showing signs of anxiety.
“I said stop, get everyone out of the virtual machines, medical unit intervene immediately!” Luo Qishan shouted, then without even a backward glance at the others, stormed out of the meeting room.
Although Luo Qishan has long retired, his connections and influence still remained strong.
Therefore, even the colonel couldn’t defy his orders and silently got up to leave the meeting room with a stormy expression on his face.
The negative impact of this stint in the simulated reality of the battlefield was beyond anyone’s imagination.
Almost half of the trainees suffered from Combat Stress Reaction and needed psychological counselling immediately.
Additionally, many who had been “killed” in the virtual battlefield also became comatose in reality, they were in urgent need of aid, and Luo’er was part of them.
Sitting in his office with his hands on his head, an already aging Luo Qishan looked even more haggard.
“Knock knock knock”, there was a knock on the door, followed by Wang Xu opening it cautiously and walking up to Luo Qishan.
“Chief, a total of 53 people fainted after the simulation, here are their details.” In the office, Wang Xu carefully placed a report on Luo Qishan’s desk.
“How’s Luo’er doing?” Luo Qishan asked with his head down.
“He’s still unconscious, but doctors are saying there’s no major issue.
He should wake up after a day or two of rest.”
Upon hearing the words, Luo Qishan let out a breath he had been holding in.
With his head bowed, covering his eyes with his palm, he remained silent for a long while before asking, “Why did it come to this?
I don’t even have the courage to care for him.
I can only watch him grow slowly through the monitor…”
Wang Xu didn’t know what to say, he could only remain silent, quietly standing before him.
“Can you stay with me for a while?” Luo Qishan asked.
“Understood!” Wang Xu bowed in agreement.
There was no reason for him to refuse the old Chief’s request.
Hence, he stood before him with his hands behind his back and silently observed him.
The two men, who shared decades of camaraderie, were quietly communicating in their own way.
Luo Qishan didn’t say a word, while Wang Xu kept quiet.
The only sound was the ticking of the wall clock.
When Luo’er woke up, it was already the afternoon of the second day.
He was laying in a hospital bed, with Tangmo sleeping next to him.
During the two days he had been unconscious, all the students who’d participated in the battlefield simulation had begun to recover.
Luo’er reached out to pat Tangmo’s head, only then realizing his fingers were working again.
This reminded him of his “death” on the virtual battlefield, he was still unsure of the others’ situation.
“Luo’er!” Tangmo woke up, rubbed her eyes, and lifted her head slowly.
As soon as she saw that Luo’er had woken up, her emotions broke down and she started sobbing.
Throwing herself onto him, she-held him tight.
This was the only way she could express her worry.
“I’m okay now, sorry for making you worry.” Luo’er gently stroked her head, softly soothing her. fɾeeweɓnѳveɭ.com
“I thought you had died, I don’t want to lose you…
I was so very close to grabbing your hand that day!” Tangmo sobbed, her tears soaking his hospital gown.
“It was just a simulation, don’t be upset anymore!” Luo’er’s voice remained gentle.
“Yeah, ok…” Tangmo buried her head in his chest, nodding with a sniffle.
After a long time, Tangmo finally let go of Luo’er.
Her eyes were red-rimmed and her nose was snotty, seemingly wiped onto Luo’er’s clothes.
“I’m sorry for making you worry, I was…
keeping something from you for so long..” Luo’er spoke, then lowered his head in shame.
Tangmo turned her face away in silence.
After a long pause, she asked slowly, “Luo’er, are you still planning to go to the Otherworld?”
“Hmm.” Luo’er nodded without any hesitation.
“Even at the risk of your life?”
“Hmm.”
“For your mom?”
“Yes!”
“But I don’t want …” Tangmo paused, reached out and grabbed Luo’er’s right hand, putting it on her face, closing her eyes and said, “I don’t want to lose my gentle Luo’er.”
Luo’er was taken aback for a moment, but didn’t know what to say.
“Luo’er’s mom must be very gentle and beautiful too, right?” Tangmo asked.
“Hmm!” Luo’er nodded.
“If Luo’er finds her, can I consider her my mom too?” Tangmo lifted her head and asked him directly.
Luo’er looked at her, startled.
“Luo’er, I’ve made up my mind!” Tangmo pulled Luo’er’s fingers away, tightly grasping his index and middle finger, and said solemnly, “Wherever you go, I’ll go too, as long as you can be with me!”
“Tha-thank you…” In the face of Tangmo’s fervent gaze, Luo’er awkwardly averted his eyes.
“Hmm!” A coughing sound suddenly came from the doorway.
They both suddenly noticed that Hu Daoke, Baiyue, and Cheng Ziang had appeared at the door at some point.
Tangmo’s face turned red immediately, she ran to the other side of the bed, turned her back to them, not saying a word while covering her face.
Luo’er looked at the three of them and asked, “Have you been here for a while?”
“Um, we just arrived.” Hu Daoke came in, scratching his head and said.
“Are you all okay?” Luo’er said, looking at Cheng Ziang.
This one had run off somewhere during the battlefield simulation, and he wasn’t sure if he had experienced any Combat Stress Reaction.
“Don’t worry, everyone’s fine!” Hu Daoke slumped onto the bedside, pointing at Cheng Ziang and said, “I heard this guy stormed into the opposite trench and was slashing around, beating everyone with a mere spade!”
“Hmph!” In response to Luo’er’s concerned gaze, Cheng Ziang snorted coldly, crossed his arms, and looked away.
“Are you okay?” Luo’er asked Baiyue with concern.
Baiyue didn’t say anything, but shook her head.
However, the look she gave Luo’er seemed a bit resentful.
“Uh, I really want to thank you for that day…” Hu Daoke scratched the back of his head, saying somewhat awkwardly, “If you hadn’t saved me, I probably would have passed out too.”
“It’s okay, it was just a battlefield simulation, don’t worry about it!” Luo’er reassured.
“There’s something else!” Hu Daoke coughed, looked at Baiyue and Cheng Ziang, then said, “That day you saved me at all costs, you’ve made a brother out of me.
Since Sister Moumou said she’s going to Otherworld with you, I’ll go too.”
“You don’t need to force yourself, I told you it was just a battlefield simulation, you don’t owe me anything!”
“No, can’t I follow Sister Moumou?
Wherever Sister Moumou goes, I’ll go.
You can’t refuse me!” Hu Daoke hurriedly said.
“Tha-thank you!” Luo’er didn’t know what to say, so all he could respond with was gratitude.
“What are you talking about, we’re a team, right?
We’re in this together, sharing the good times and the bad!” Hu Daoke patted his shoulder and said confidently.
“And also these two,” Hu Daoke pointed at Baiyue and Cheng Ziang, “We just talked it over, they’re planning to follow you to Otherworld as well.”
“You guys, thank you!” Luo’er was somewhat moved.
Cheng Ziang looked at him, snorted, and a hint of a smile appeared at the corner of his mouth, as if he was scheming something.
Baiyue just glanced at Luo’er, her eyes seemingly filled with intense emotions, which Luo’er noticed in just a flash.
“Thank you all for supporting me, even though this is really my issue…” Luo’er lowered his head, thanking everyone.
“What are you talking about, we’re a team, we can’t be separated anymore!” Hu Daoke passionately threw his arm around Luo’er’s shoulder, fervently saying, “Let’s set a small goal for ourselves, say, winning the championship of the selection competition!”
“Uh, speaking of small goals, Hu Daoke, you need to work on your academic scores…” Luo’er poured cold water on his enthusiasm with his poorly timed comment.
“Hmm, don’t worry, I’ll be good by the time of the graduation exam!” Hu Daoke said a bit sheepishly.
“Little Ke, don’t hassle Luo’er like this, he’s just woken up!” Tangmo turned around, pulling away his big hand that was hugging Luo’er and said.
“Sister Moumou, you’re actually scolding me for Luo’er…” Hu Daoke said grievously.
Watching them tease each other, Luo’er couldn’t help but genuinely smile.
