Otherworldly Affairs Office-Chapter 66: One Against Two
Chapter 66: Chapter 66: One Against Two
Unlike Shangxing’s overwhelming victory, Pei Yan encountered numerous dangers and hardships right from the start.
After narrowly dodging a few of He Yue’s corrosive nets, Pei Yan felt a sudden instability as he landed, suffering a severe blow to his back. He stumbled forward and nearly fell but quickly adjusted his stance and leapt sideways to evade another wave of He Yue’s attacks.
It was then he noticed a protruding rock where he had landed, and it was this same rising spike that had struck him.
Recalling the stone wall earlier, Pei Yan immediately turned his gaze to another person, Liu Yu, whose bald head was exposed after removing his cap. The green-grey internal energy gleamed incessantly between his hands as he waved them, conjuring rocks to rise from the ground and surge toward Pei Yan, constantly restricting his space to dodge.
"Is this the ability one gains after awakening?" Pei Yan thought with lingering fear as he watched the crazed He Yue repeatedly toss nets of varying sizes, noting the corroded smoke rising from the rocks snared by the web while he dodged.
"Pei Yan, need a hand?" came the voice of Shangxing not far away. Pei Yan glanced over; in the time he took to look, Shangxing had already subdued those three men, truly impressive!
Seems like I need to push myself too, Pei Yan thought, loudly responding, "No need! I think I can handle it!"
"Quit hopping around like a monkey, Liu Yu! Just disable this kid for me!" He Yue screamed with a twisted, distorted face under increasing pressure from their conversation.
"Stone Mountain!" Receiving the command, Liu Yu shouted, clapping his palms together with force. Cold sweat poured from his forehead as his green-grey light grew intensely on his body.
Pei Yan suddenly felt the ground beneath him tremble slightly. In an instant, countless solid stones burst from the earth, crazily surging towards him, and looking up, he saw over ten large rocks appear out of nowhere, crashing down on his head.
In no time, he was buried in an overwhelming onslaught of boulders and flying debris from all sides. Under Liu Yu’s pressing force, they finally closed in around him, forming a man-made mountain.
"Well done!" He Yue excitedly licked his parched lips, sincerely praising the sweat-drenched, slightly weakened Liu Yu beside him.
He then walked slowly toward the mountain, keeping both hands warily controlling two large nets, viciously saying, "I want to see just who will tear whose mouth! Liu Yu, you didn’t crush the kid, did you?"
"Not sure. The dust from the rocks and mud was too thick to see, but he’s definitely bound," Liu Yu replied, adjusting his breath while casually summoning two confinement rings.
He Yue nodded, saying, "Be careful anyway. Now, slowly open the stone mountain, and I’ll keep an eye on him for you!"
"Okay!"
Speaking, Liu Yu raised his hands and slowly applied his internal energy to the stone mountain. Under his power, the mountain cracked open again, scattering countless fragments to the sides.
As more rocks scattered and the dust gradually rose, both men grew increasingly tense. When Liu Yu peeled away the stones closest to the core, they both froze in shock.
Staring at the pitch-black sphere left in the area, Liu Yu momentarily lost focus, puzzled, "Where is he? How did it become a sphere?"
"Not good! Be careful!" He Yue noticed something amiss and threw the two nets overhead, only to hear a loud bang as the sphere exploded. The flying pieces smashed into the approaching nets, knocking them back.
A series of blue glows flashed immediately afterward as a storm of bullets rained down like a downpour!
"Retreat quickly!" Liu Yu exclaimed, spitting blood after taking more than a dozen bullets, he staggered back, frantically raising stone walls to block the frenzied barrage of bullets.
After erecting five stone walls in succession, Liu Yu could finally catch his breath, kneeling on one knee and panting heavily, using his hand to wipe the blood oozing from his chest. Stripping away the stone armor formed by his power from his chest to expose bullet tips embedded in dent marks, he dug one out with his hand—damn it, it’s solid!
"Liu Yu, how are you?" He Yue moved closer, bending down to ask.
Liu Yu gently rubbed the slowly healing wound on his chest, muttering low curses, "Not bad. The stone armor deflected most of the force, plus the internal energy protection, just scraped off some skin. Damn it, how’d that punk evade my attack?"
"Look at this. I picked it up with my web earlier! He was hiding in here; this brat’s ability is so damn strange!" He Yue handed Liu Yu a fragment of the exploded sphere.
Taking the piece, Liu Yu noticed it was a thick rubber layer wrapped around an iron sheet, then another rubber layer, and then another iron sheet, repeating for three layers!
"The guy’s reactions are too quick! How did he think of and create such a thing in such a short time?" Liu Yu growled unwillingly, hearing the continuous gunfire from outside the wall.
What he didn’t know was that it wasn’t Pei Yan who devised this method in that brief moment, but rather one of several solutions provided by the system within his visor, selected and implemented by him.
"Still have time to praise him? We should be thinking of how to handle him!" Only then did He Yue realize that the situation had slipped from their control, sliding further towards failure.
"What else can we do! How does he have such heavy weaponry? Damn it, we should never have concerned ourselves with Hu Wenjun from the start, considering this or that, just let those old guys like Zou Changxing handle him!" Liu Yu reminisced about Pei Yan’s scene of breaking out of the sphere, both his hands turning into Gatling gun barrels, constantly glowing blue and shooting bullets like they were free, feeling a chill in his liver.
He Yue, grabbing the slightly demoralized Liu Yu, growled, "Does talking about this now do any good? Even if we can’t complete the mission, we must find a means to escape. Don’t forget, we both carry charges of manslaughter! You know what the result would be if we’re captured!"
At that, both fell silent; the outside’s frantic gunfire shattering stone walls gradually weakening. Liu Yu pushed aside He Yue’s hand from his collar, listened intently for a moment, and whispered, "Could it be he’s so pleased he used up all his bullets?"
"Maybe. The guy’s crafty, could be a ploy to lure us out!" He Yue suggested after listening for a while.
Clenching his teeth, Liu Yu steeled his heart and said, "We can’t just sit here and await death. We’ve tested that our Jiezhi Space has been tampered with from the outside and forcing through takes time, so in a moment, I’ll blow open the stone wall and charge out head-on. I’ll trap him in the stone mountain one last time to buy you time to break open the internal energy, and we’ll escape!"
"Alright, trust in fate and leave wealth to destiny, let’s go all out!" He Yue nodded in agreement, appearing spirited, yet internally making another plan. There was no real friendship between him and Liu Yu, just colleagues bound by interest. If their plan worked, that would be best; if not, he wouldn’t hesitate to sacrifice Liu Yu to save himself.
