Chapter 73: Chapter 73: Secret Prison and Three Pristine Department
Just as Pei Yan was overwhelmed with emotions, several beams of light flashed, and a dozen figures appeared in front of him. Leading them was Hu Wenjun, and behind him stood more than ten strangers, all dressed in uniform black coats and wearing top hats.
Shangxing stepped forward, exchanged a greeting with one of the men in black, then turned to Hu Wenjun and asked, "How’s the situation outside?"
"The people from the Three Pristine Department and the Secret Prison have all arrived. Everything outside is almost handled," Hu Wenjun replied, then shouted to Pei Yan, "Xiaopei, go and help the comrades in the back by identifying the two ability criminals you captured, then head outside." He then leaned close to Shangxing and whispered softly.
"Oh! Okay!" Pei Yan obeyed and approached the leader of the men in black, extending his hand in introduction, "Hello, I’m Pei Yan."
The other nodded at him, turned to the crowd of captives, and tilted his head towards them, saying, "Go pick out the ones controlled by your confining ring."
Pei Yan walked over to the pile of captives and pointed at He Yue and Liu Yu. Suddenly, three men in black emerged from the crowd, each summoning a large two-pronged steel fork from thin air, and without hesitation, they thrust them towards Liu Yu’s neck and ankles.
Pei Yan was stunned to see that after the steel forks fixed these areas, the side where it was open gradually grew iron, turning the fork head into rings that encased Liu Yu’s neck and ankles.
"Now, release your confining ring!" commanded the leader of the men in black.
"Okay!" Pei Yan complied and retracted his confining ring. As soon as Liu Yu’s hands were freed, he waved them, attempting to resist, but he could no longer sense the presence of his internal source.
Seeing his disobedience, the three men in black clenched and twisted their hands, causing the rings on Liu Yu’s neck and feet to suddenly turn red. Liu Yu screamed in agony, his body convulsing uncontrollably as his arms went limp, helplessly allowing the men in black to replace the rings with new confining rings.
After completing all this, the three men in black twisted and bent the steel fork’s body, and the steel rings on Liu Yu’s body surprisingly separated automatically from the shaft, which then formed new steel fork heads on its front.
Despite Pei Yan’s intense curiosity about this magical capture equipment, seeing the solemn and taciturn faces of these people, he dared not ask more and quietly waited for them to deal with He Yue.
"Ugh, why is this person so disgusting, all sticky with something. My God, how does he have so much phlegm on him!" exclaimed the man in black who was about to thrust the fork into He Yue’s neck, face full of disdain.
"Pei Yan, you just wait for me! As long as I’m alive, today’s humiliation I...! Aaargh!" He Yue shouted, glaring at Pei Yan as he was about to be taken away. But before he could finish his sentence, the men in black manipulated the steel forks to give him an electric shock, causing him to convulse and choke on his words.
"You’ll never get out in this lifetime! Take him away!" said the leader of the men in black, looking at He Yue, who was covered in filth, with contempt.
Then he raised his hand to Pei Yan and said, "Your job here is done. Leave the rest to us, and wait outside!"
"Okay!"
As Pei Yan was about to leave and activate the Jiezhi Space, a woman’s cry came from behind, "Wait, wait! Please, please! Talk to them, I really didn’t do anything wrong, can you not take me away! I’m begging you!"
Hearing this, Pei Yan turned around to see Qi Youting crying her heart out at him. After looking around, he pointed to himself puzzledly, "You calling me?"
"Yes, yes! I’m calling you, please, I swear I haven’t done anything wrong!" Qi Youting looked at her former superiors who were defeated and tortured, then dragged away like dead dogs. She finally broke down, desperately trying to grasp any straw that could help her escape.
"Do we know each other? Besides, weren’t you with them to catch me? Why are you pleading with me!" Pei Yan replied with a mix of tears and laughter.
"We’re peers, right? I’m not much older than you. You just have better luck being discovered by the Investigation Bureau first, but I was found by them first. If you had been taken away first, can you guarantee you wouldn’t be the one caught here today? Why do I have to face this fate! I truly haven’t done anything wrong, and I don’t know much about what they’ve been doing!" Qi Youting shouted for help in tears, facing the menacing black-clad man approaching her with a raised steel fork, terrified and afraid of suffering the same consequences as He Yue.
Hearing these words, Pei Yan was initially stunned, then recalled the terror during his first interrogation tied to a chair by Hu Wenjun. Her panic now was probably a thousand times his back then.
Thinking of this, he turned to the leader of the men in black, who sighed helplessly, "Don’t worry, although we impose severe penalties on ability-users for crimes, it’s based on their criminal behavior. We will investigate, and if she really hasn’t committed any crimes as she claims, we will handle it accordingly."
Hearing this, Pei Yan shrugged to Qi Youting, "You hear that? That’s all I can do. If you really haven’t committed any crimes, just go in and confess honestly. The less you try to be clever, the less you’ll suffer!"
Having said that, Pei Yan stopped talking further and vanished into the Jiezhi Space in a flash of light.
A cold wind blew by as he arrived outside. Pei Yan instinctively tightened his clothing. The alley, which should have been filled with a festive atmosphere, was now devoid of any local residents, and there was no sound of firecrackers. Under the large red lanterns that hung high, a dozen Investigation Bureau personnel moved back and forth at each household’s doorstep, the air filled with a peculiar vibe.
"I heard you took down one and captured two! Well done!"
In the midst of this magical atmosphere, Pei Yan was startled by a heavy pat on the shoulder. He turned to see Wenlin, relieved, and pointed to the scene ahead asking, "Who are they?"
"Them! They’re from the Three Pristine Department handling post-event operations," Wenlin said, lighting a cigarette and casually handing one to Pei Yan.
Pei Yan politely declined Wenlin’s offer and continued curiously, "Is the Three Pristine Department part of our Daoist Arts Department? The Three Pristine Ones of Daoism?"
Wenlin chuckled and shook his head repeatedly, signaling with three fingers, "Nah, it has nothing to do with Daoism. The Three Pristines refer to cleaning up site residues, cleaning witnesses’ memories, and cleaning any video impact records, in short, the Three Pristine Department."
Wenlin leaned close to Pei Yan’s ear whispering, "It’s basically the department that wipes our asses clean."
"There’s such a department! So what are they doing right now?"
"They’re using the Enchantment Technique to keep the people inside the house immersed in what they’re doing now, so they have no time to care about what’s happening outside," Wenlin explained, turning to point at the two young people standing in Old Hu’s courtyard, holding disks. He said, "See them? They’re using the Dream Infiltration technique. Old Hu’s relatives think they’re eating dumplings and watching the Spring Festival Gala with you and Old Hu right now!"
