Our Love Story: Hard to Guard Against the Sudden Love Strike-Chapter 326 - 314: Can’t Sleep
Upon hearing Sylvia Langley ask, "Do you have any other family?", Sienna Thornton was stunned for a while. Simon Forrester was quicker to react, and answered the question: "Candy’s mom and sister are in Brimfield. Her sister is a pastry chef. Her younger brother is married and lives with the stepfather back in Wrayhaven."
Sylvia Langley only knew beforehand that Sienna’s family was poor, but was unaware she was from a single-parent family. So, hearing the word "stepfather" made her freeze for a few seconds before she reacted: "Did your biological father divorce or pass away?"
Simon Forrester was about to answer when Sienna pressed his hand under the table, swallowed, and replied: "My biological father disappeared before I was born. His fate remains unknown. I’ve been looking for him, but still haven’t found him."
Sylvia Langley looked at her with a complex expression, sighing subtly.
This uncertainty about the fate of her father was even more unsettling than knowing he was a gambler or a criminal.
The atmosphere became somewhat stiff, and no one spoke.
After a while of silence, Sylvia Langley looked at Sienna, considered for a moment, and asked: "You probably hope to find your biological father before you get married, right?"
Sienna nodded.
Sylvia Langley looked at Simon Forrester but spoke to Sienna: "Why don’t you give me your father’s information? I can help you find him, the more people involved, the better."
Sienna didn’t answer but turned her head to look at Simon Forrester.
Simon Forrester squeezed her hand beneath the table, then turned to Sylvia Langley and said: "I’ve already had some friends from relevant departments helping to search for more than half a year, but there’s no news. If you help us, chances are the approach will be similar."
Sylvia Langley didn’t insist, saying: "Alright, I’ll discuss it with Grandpa later."
After dinner, Sylvia Langley didn’t linger much and soon returned to the old house.
Once she left, Sienna promptly started tidying up the kitchen and dining area, with Simon Forrester joining to help. Though he couldn’t bend down, he helped collect dishes and wipe the table.
After finishing the kitchen tasks, Sienna went to the balcony to bring in the clothes. Seeing Simon Forrester holding their windbreakers, she asked, "Are you going out?"
Simon Forrester smiled, stepped behind her, and opened the coat, indicating for her to wear it: "Let’s go downstairs for some meat."
"Huh?" Sienna thought she misheard, turned around to look at him, "We’ve already had dinner. Even for a late-night snack, it’s still a bit early."
Simon Forrester put on his windbreaker: "Let’s go for a walk, I also want to take a stroll. After walking for an hour or two, it’ll be about time for a night snack."
Sienna hadn’t eaten much all evening, which Simon noticed, worried that she might be hungry later. So, he suggested going out to eat.
"Oh, okay. I’ll put the clothes in the room first, wait for me." Sienna didn’t think much of it, hugged the freshly collected clothes, and ran back into the main bedroom.
.
They took the elevator down to the shopping mall, bought some daily necessities at Watsons, then went to the supermarket to get some snacks. Walking and browsing around surprisingly took them nearly two hours.
Sienna was indeed hungry, so she dragged Simon Forrester to the food court and chose a Sichuan-style hot pot restaurant to eat tripe hot pot.
It was still a Yin-Yang pot, with the non-spicy side for Simon Forrester, and the spicy side for Sienna herself.
By late September, Brimfield had already entered autumn. The nights were slightly chilly, and the air conditioning inside the mall was turned off. It was quite enjoyable to eat hot pot at this time, especially spicy food which stimulates the appetite. Sienna had lots of meat and beer, feeling genuinely refreshed.
Simon Forrester accompanied her, and they chatted casually. When the topic of buying a car came up, Simon Forrester said: "My mom wants to buy you a car, don’t feel burdened about it. I told her, during her divorce, the legal fees, which were several hundred thousand, were all covered by you."
"Huh?" Sienna had long forgotten about this, but remembered when Simon mentioned it, "I was thinking of returning the favor to Aunt later, but since I’ve already done so, this time I’ll just accept her gift!"
Simon Forrester laughed: "It’s normal for a mother-in-law to buy gifts for her daughter-in-law. She’ll give you other things in the future, just accept them. It’s all within family, gifts and money circle amongst ourselves."
Sienna tilted her head, nodded: "You’re right, ultimately, it’s her son who enjoys them."
"Hmm?" Simon Forrester noticed the underlying meaning in her words; his gaze deepened and his voice grew huskier, "What does ’it’s her son who enjoys them’ mean? Explain clearly."
Sienna blushed: "Just the literal meaning, interpret it yourself."
.
After finishing the hot pot and returning home, it was past ten. Sienna first had Simon Forrester take a shower, while she folded clothes and tidied the house. When Simon finished, she went to take her bath.
Upon exiting the shower, she found Simon already lying on the bed. She dried her hair and quickly lay down beside him.
She helped him turn over, lifted his pajamas, checking the healing of his back wound.
Actually, the wound had healed quite well a few days after getting stitches out, yet she still habitually examined it every night for any redness or changes.
She stroked the skin near his wound gently with her fingertips and softly asked, "After last night’s trip to the old house, three or four hours round-trip, does your back ache today?"
"A little."
His "a little" automatically translated to "quite painful" in her mind.
Her heart constricted, and she swiftly turned his body right to have him lay flat: "You should rest more, especially when I’m not at home. Don’t get up and move unnecessarily."
She wore a soft yellow pajamas, her long hair cascading to one side of her chest. With hands supporting his sides, she leaned over him, looking down at him tenderly.
He gazed at her, suddenly raised his hand, and pinched her cheeks, full of baby fat, playfully squashing and stretching them while laughing: "Can’t lie down all the time, doing so may cause osteoporosis in your leg bones."
She sighed, very troubled: "It’s difficult indeed! What should I do..."
He chuckled, pulling her face down, gently pecking at the corner of her lips: "I know my own limits, don’t worry unnecessarily. Alright, time to sleep, you have work tomorrow."
"Alright." She furrowed her brows, pulled the thin blanket over him, retrieved the remote for the lights, turned off the night lamp, and lay back to her position.
He lay flat while she snuggled into his arms, seeking a comfortable spot, burying her face against his neck, arms encircling his waist, preparing for sleep.
Unsure whether it was due to the spicy food and beer or some other reason, her entire body was inexplicably hyper, fidgeting restlessly in his embrace.
"Why are you moving about?" he asked, rubbing her head.
"I feel a bit sleepless," she murmured.
He didn’t respond immediately, and after a pause, suddenly said deeply: "Can’t sleep, huh? How about staying awake a bit longer?"
"Sure..."
