Chapter 107: Chapter 107: No Grudges for What Has Passed

Scarlett Shaw immediately corrected her, "First, I’m the one who likes Julian Ford, not the other way around. Second, wasn’t it the Walsh Family who canceled the engagement between Julian and Miss Walsh?"

"That was just for the Walsh Family’s pride—so they’d both have an out. That’s what was said to the public, anyway."

Yana Yarrow replied.

"But I heard some inside scoop. Apparently, there was an issue with Lynn Walsh that made Mrs. Ford unhappy. Mrs. Ford has always been hands-on about who Julian’s future wife should be, super picky. For a marriage already set to get canceled, the problem must have been huge."

"But after all that, Mrs. Ford has eased up a bit about Julian getting married. Also, for some reason, something’s come between Julian and Miss Walsh—they’re not on good terms now."

Scarlett couldn’t help teasing, "Your intel is too detailed. Don’t tell me you climbed a tree outside the Ford family’s villa to eavesdrop."

"Come on, there are no secrets in these wealthy families. It all looks glamorous, but in reality, everyone can’t wait for some scandal in other people’s homes to feel better about themselves."

Yana said, then glanced at a few more photos, sighing:

"Honestly, you and Julian Ford are actually more of a match the longer I look. See, about half the pics have Julian looking straight at you."

Except his gaze is cold, and his expression even colder.

He might be looking, but there’s not a hint of feeling in it.

Yana, however, was getting swept up—totally into the "shipping" vibes—and even suggested, "Scarlett, why don’t you try chasing Julian Ford and see what happens?"

Scarlett’s eyes went wide, "Yana, do you want me to throw myself into the fire or what?"

"As if! I’m just saying, even though you two lasting is unlikely, a short fling wouldn’t be so bad, right?"

Yana made her analysis, acting all serious.

"Look, if you get him, that makes you Ryan Ford’s sister-in-law—even if just for a while, it’d definitely piss him off. Besides, you like Julian, so dating and cuddling with him out in the open? No downsides at all."

Scarlett gazed at her, all wounded, "And you call yourself my best friend? Weren’t you the one who told me not to get involved?"

"That’s because things were unequal between you two before. I had to look out for you, obviously."

Yana said.

"Now, my gut says Julian Ford’s got a bit of a thing for you, too."

Yana’s reasons for pursuing someone actually sounded pretty convincing. Scarlett just found the "out in the open" part a little too tempting.

As for pissing off Ryan Ford—

If Yana hadn’t mentioned him, Scarlett would’ve nearly forgotten about the guy by now.

When she thought about it, even though she’d dated Ryan for three years, her feelings had never run as hot or cold as they had with Julian in just six months.

Which just shows—

Julian Ford is a real bastard!

A bastard and a damn tease.

Still, what Scarlett didn’t expect was that a few days later, Ryan Ford—who she thought she was done with—showed up at the company.

She’d just gotten her coffee from the break room and, glancing up, saw Ryan in a suit, being shown around Legal by Aaron Carson.

Ryan’s take on suits was always on the casual side—never bothered with a tie, dark jacket unbuttoned, shirt collar unfastened.

Total playboy vibes, plain as day.

But as a lawyer, the guy could be pretty ruthless underneath that careless exterior. The less he looked like he cared, the more you had to watch out.

Scarlett had barely sat down when Skyler Miller messaged her privately on WhatsApp: Saw the Fords’ Second Son at the office this morning.

Scarlett: I just saw him go into Legal with Aaron.

Skyler Miller: So the tip I got was right.

Scarlett: What tip?

Skyler Miller: Ryan Ford’s probably taking a job in Legal.

Scarlett just stared blankly at the message.

After giving Ryan the grand tour, Aaron took him to the executive office. Julian Ford gave Ryan a few instructions, Ryan nodded seriously, and even Aaron looked a little surprised.

This Fords’ Second Son—is he really the asshole who used to give Scarlett a hard time?

Ryan suddenly flicked his eyes up at Aaron, "You and Scarlett still together?"

Aaron: "..."

Um, what.

He instinctively looked at Julian, hoping for a hint, but Julian’s expression was stone-cold. Instead, Ryan caught Aaron’s glance and snickered, "Why are you looking at my brother? Wasn’t it you and Scarlett who boldly told me you were dating and Julian had no say in it?"

Aaron: "..."

Not that he and Scarlett were ever really a thing, anyway.

The whole story back then was, Julian’s the boss—he doesn’t meddle in employees’ private lives.

Now, with Ryan twisting it, it almost sounded like Aaron was flaunting Scarlett in front of Julian.

At this point, Aaron just felt one foot in the grave.

Might as well bury himself now.

Ryan: "You and Scarlett should break up."

Aaron’s eyes went wide as saucers. "Break up?"

Ryan: "Aaron, you’ve worked for my brother for years—out of respect for him, I’ll overlook you poaching my girl and whatever you did with Scarlett. Right now, I’m laying it all out for my brother’s sake. Break up with Scarlett, and the past won’t matter."

Aaron thought, I didn’t hook up with Scarlett, dude.

It was your brother.

And you cheated on Scarlett so much, how can you even talk about me "poaching" her?

"Ryan."

Julian suddenly spoke, calmly looking at Ryan, his voice low,

"You’re with Veridian now. Do your job, handle what you need to, get your priorities straight."

Ryan: "Getting Scarlett back is also a priority. Last time, I even promised Dad I’d bring her home for a visit."

The moment Ryan finished, Julian’s demeanor turned icy. "You planning on screwing around again?"

Ryan didn’t answer.

Julian’s tone stayed cold: "This is the only warning. If you cause any trouble, the door to Veridian will be permanently closed to you."

Ryan’s brow furrowed tight.

There was some defiance in his eyes, but he stayed quiet, staring at Julian with a little confusion.

Other people might not catch Julian’s mood, but Ryan could.

He was a little stumped—when had his brother gotten so short-tempered?

After a moment of silence, it was Ryan who gave in: "Fine."

Julian nodded, saying nothing more.

Ryan lowered his head, shoved his hands in his pockets, and turned to leave the executive office.

As soon as he left, Aaron—the sacrificial lamb who’d just been accused of sleeping with Scarlett—immediately said, "President Ford, if there’s nothing else, I’ll head out too."

Julian glanced at him, face calm. "Keep an eye on Ryan. Don’t let him bother Scarlett."

"Yes, sir."
