Out of Control: Into Your Everything-Chapter 20: You Seem Quite Pleased
"Scarlett is here."
Ryan smiled at her.
Scarlett’s fingertips felt cold; she walked over and forced a smile at her grandmother, "Grandma."
The elderly woman held her hand, kind and gentle, "Scarlett, when did you get a boyfriend? Why didn’t you tell grandma? Ryan is a good boy, Scarlett, you should stay together well."
Scarlett narrowed her eyes slightly and glanced at Ryan.
Ryan’s lips curved shallowly, carrying a hint of a smile.
The elderly woman held Ryan’s hand again, "Our Scarlett has had a hard life; her mother left her all alone, without anyone to rely on. Ryan, it’s been tough on you."
Ryan’s eyes deepened slightly, smiling faintly, "Alright."
Scarlett: "Ryan, please step outside."
Ryan stood up, his peach blossom eyes smiling as they glanced at her, "I’ll be waiting for you outside."
Scarlett clenched her fist.
Once Ryan left the ward, Scarlett held her grandmother’s hand and softly said, "Grandma, Ryan was indeed my boyfriend before, but we’ve broken up."
"Yes, grandma could tell."
Scarlett was stunned, "Then why..."
Grandma: "Before, whenever you came to see me, even alone, you were always happy. Grandma has been around and knows a girl’s thoughts. But today, our Scarlett’s eyes are filled with heavy burdens."
Scarlett’s chest tightened with bitterness, "Grandma..."
The elderly woman kindly stroked her head, "Scarlett, be honest with grandma, the high cost for my treatment before, was it also Ryan who helped?"
Scarlett did not deny.
Grandma sighed, "I’m the one who’s burdened you."
"Not at all."
Scarlett leaned in and hugged her grandmother tightly.
"With you, grandma, I’ve been able to strive until today."
After her father’s bankruptcy, though Penelope Shaw took her in, living dependent on others was harder than she imagined.
People who once greeted her with smiles now only looked at her coldly; only her grandma sincerely cared for her, giving her pocket money secretly and holding her hand, saying word by word, "Our Scarlett will surely live happily."
The year she got into college, Scarlett had no money for tuition; it was her grandma who used her savings to fund her education.
But was discovered by her uncle, Felix Ford.
Felix scorned her as a burden, angrily rebuking Grandma, who couldn’t bear it and had a heart attack.
Scarlett, at a loss, agreed to the condition Penelope offered—to earn money by serving drinks at her karaoke bar.
It was also that day when she reunited with Ryan.
"Ryan is clearly from a wealthy family; Scarlett, since you broke up, you should part amicably. We will slowly repay this favor. Grandma would rather not have treatment than see you suffer."
The elderly woman had seen much and understood well; getting involved with children from affluent families was trouble.
Scarlett’s nose reddened, "Don’t worry, grandma. I’m doing well now, and your illness will surely get better."
Scarlett stayed in the ward with grandma until she rested, then left.
Ryan was sitting on a bench outside the ward, his long legs crossed, with a glance catching her coming out. He stood and walked closer.
Scarlett looked at him coldly, "Ryan, if you dare lay a finger on my grandma, I’ll fight you."
Ryan laughed, "Scarlett, your grandma is the only person in this world who truly loves you. How could I bear to harm her and make you sad?"
Scarlett’s face turned pale.
She knew Ryan was threatening her.
Ryan: "You come back to me, not only will grandma be fine, but she’ll receive better treatment, and I’ll clear all your debts. What do you have against that?"
"If you really wanted to help me, why wait until now?"
Scarlett stared intently at Ryan, trying to discern something from his playful expression.
"Ryan, from eighteen years old till now, so many years have passed. You’ve never cared about my life, and now after breaking up, you say you’ll fix all my problems. What are you up to?"
Ryan’s smile faded slightly, "You just don’t believe I sincerely want you back."
Scarlett: "Ever since you cheated, you should know, I’ll never go back."
Ryan fell silent for a long time.
After a while, his peach blossom eyes lightly lifted, looking at her, "Is it really because I cheated, or do you genuinely like that man you slept with? Scarlett, you know better than anyone."
Scarlett pressed her lips tightly.
She didn’t want to waste time or need to, sorting it out with Ryan.
Breaking up is breaking up, why say so much?
But the more silent she was, in Ryan’s eyes, the more it seemed she tacitly agreed.
Ryan’s face twisted with hatred, sneering, "If I’d known sleeping with you would make you stay, I should’ve done it back then already. After all, you were just a karaoke girl, weren’t you?"
Scarlett clenched her fist, her nails digging into her flesh.
Her eyes turned red, glaring at him, "Do you have to make all my memories with you unbearable?"
Ryan’s smile froze, his eyelids drooped slightly, casting a shadow.
Scarlett lowered her eyes, staring at the floor, "Grandma just called you ’Little Ford.’ I remember the first time we met as kids; you also told me you were ’Little Ford.’"
Ryan’s brows twitched, his expression growing more complex.
Scarlett raised her eyes.
Looking at him seriously and calmly, she spoke word by word, "Ryan, by saying these words today, you personally wiped out our past. Remember, my affection for you was extinguished by you, no one else."
With that, Scarlett turned and headed toward the elevator without looking back.
Ryan’s words had truly angered her; she walked hastily and didn’t watch where she was going.
Passing a corner, she accidentally bumped into someone coming from the other side.
She staggered back two steps, hurriedly saying, "Sorry."
However, the next moment Scarlett sensed a familiar aura from the person, suddenly stopping, she looked up, locking eyes with the masked Julian Ford.
Scarlett steadied her mind, "President Ford."
Julian’s gaze briefly swept over her, landing somewhere far away, before returning to Scarlett once he saw Ryan walking in the opposite direction.
He didn’t even nod in acknowledgment and walked off.
Scarlett felt bewildered, clearly sensing the low pressure this man had.
Scarlett didn’t think much of it, entering the elevator. When she reached the first floor, she noticed Julian was also inside. Seeing him walk towards the pharmacy, Scarlett paused for a second, couldn’t help but ask, "President Ford, are you sick?"
Julian paused, looked down at her, and in a cold, hoarse voice said, "From your tone, it sounds like you’re rather happy about me being ill."
