"Okay."
Nora Scott agreed readily.
Nora, who had been traveling all over the country since she was just over ten, didn’t think much of the two almost-adults going on a seven-day trip.
It was Rosie Sullivan who, having heard their conversation and noticing Nora didn’t ask further questions, felt a bit concerned and asked, "Where are you guys going?"
Oliver Scott: "Northwest."
Nora raised her eyebrows.
Oliver volunteered, "Just going to have some fun. There’s the college entrance exam next year, time will be tight, and we’ll be making up classes all winter break, with not-so-nice scenery. The National Day holiday is the perfect time to travel."
"Oh." Rosie nodded, relieved, "I’m pretty familiar with the Northwest. When you guys are leaving, you can come to me for travel tips. The free kind."
"Okay, thanks, Rosie." Oliver replied with a smile.
Nora admired the trophy, handed it to Rosie for safekeeping, and then asked, "Have you told Mr. Flynn?"
"Yeah, I told him." Oliver said, "After we finished filming the show, we sent Mr. Flynn the photos of us receiving the trophy, and he congratulated us. We wanted to treat him to a meal, but he declined."
Nora acknowledged with an "Oh".
Earlier, when Oliver said they couldn’t reach Glenn Flynn, Nora was a bit concerned, but now it seemed they could, and she was relieved, not bothered anymore.
Glancing at the time, it was almost dark, Nora said, "I have one more scene. Afterward, I’ll treat you guys to dinner."
Today was Tuesday, and Marcus Shaw and Oliver were supposed to be in class, but they took the day off for a variety show recording. Just as well, Nora’s filming schedule was relaxed, with no scenes lined up for the next couple of days, so once she wrapped up, she could head back to Cloudwater Haven, perfectly timing it to have dinner with Marcus and Oliver.
"Sure."
Oliver had no objections.
Ever since school started on August 1st, chances to meet and dine with Nora had been few. Now that there was an opportunity, it was naturally not to be missed.
Marcus, however, pondered and asked, "Can I bring someone?"
Oliver glanced at him.
Nora also gave him a look but didn’t question further, simply and decisively nodding, "Sure."
*
Just as Nora and Oliver guessed, the person Marcus brought was Paula Loughton.
Marcus’s reasoning was simple: Max Loughton wasn’t giving Paula any living expenses and hadn’t been home for the past couple of days, so Marcus invited Paula over for a meal, straightforward and uncomplicated.
However, from Nora and Oliver’s perspective, it was a bit different.
But no one pointed it out.
When the last scene wrapped up, Paula arrived just in time and greeted Nora with particular politeness.
"Nora."
She smiled with her eyes curved.
In Nora’s memories, whenever she saw Paula, she was always smiling.
Today, Paula looked a bit different, not wearing long sleeves or pants, but a white, simple dress. The hem reached her knees, and she wore clean canvas shoes, revealing her straight and slender legs. Having worn long clothes all summer, her skin wasn’t tanned at all, remaining fair enough to make many envious, even without sun protection.
Rosie packed up Nora’s belongings and handed the package to Oliver, giving him the car keys, "Hall Master, I’ll take my leave first."
Nora asked, "Is someone picking you up?"
"Yeah."
Rosie nodded.
When Nora took a break, Rosie also took a break.
However, this break wasn’t like other breaks.
According to the information Rosie gave, the Biel Hall team along with the drug enforcement squad... would be closing the net tonight.
As long as everything went smoothly, the long-standing mystery would likely have an answer.
