Chapter 21 - 21 Ugly

After finishing a day of classes, An Yin went alone to the cafeteria for dinner, while Jiang Keke, as usual, left school immediately after class.

An Yin didn't eat much, just got a dish and a soup, quite simple fare.

There were a lot of people in the cafeteria.

As usual, she chose a spot in a corner with fewer people. Once seated, she looked up to see Shi Qing sitting across from her.

Once she sat down, there was no reaction from the other side. An Yin nervously clenched her hands, trying to hide her awkwardness, then put on a smile, "Shi Qing, hello!"

When An Yin spoke, her voice was sweet and sugary, like a gentle spring breeze, soft and warm.

Shi Qing was eating, and when she heard her name, her whole body froze. Looking up at the person in front, she slightly parted her lips, only uttering one word, "Mm!"

An Yin, "..."

She had never seen anyone colder than Shi Qing!

Oh, there was one more, Bao Cheng's cousin.

Thinking about the lost birth control pill from last time... she wished she could disappear into the ground.

An Yin muttered to herself, "Why did I think of him?" Then she shook her head, trying unsuccessfully to shake the thought of the man from her mind, and decided to just eat her meal.

She and Shi Qing sat facing each other, with a dining table in between.

An Yin had only taken a few bites when Shi Qing received a call.

"Mm, I'll come over after I finish eating." After saying this, Shi Qing hung up.

An Yin watched with raised eyes as the person in front quickly finished eating, stood up, and left, looking as if she was in a hurry.

An Yin averted her gaze and continued eating.

Although she lived in the same dormitory with Shi Qing, An Yin didn't know much about her, only observing from their interactions. Besides studying, she appeared to be very busy...

Shaking her wandering thoughts away, An Yin hurriedly finished her meal, trying her best to ignore the glances from the boys around her.

Those glances made her feel very uncomfortable!

When she returned to the dormitory, the first thing she did was make a video call to her mom.

An Mom quickly picked up the call.

Seeing the familiar face on the screen, An Yin pouted, her tone soft and gentle, "Mom."

An Yin's eyes were fixed on the phone screen, watching the face on the other side.

"Yinyin, have you eaten?" An Ying's soft voice sounded.

"I've eaten!" An Yin replied lazily, her sharp eyes watching An Mom in the video with a nervous expression, "Mom, you're at the bookstore, right?"

An Yin said this with certainty.

Back when she was discharged, after An Yin's persistent requests, An Ying promised her daughter she would pause work, leave an employee in charge of the bookstore, and focus on recovering her health.

It hadn't been long since then...

"I'm just here to take a look." An Ying quickly reassured, fearing her daughter would worry, "Don't worry, I'll take care of myself. In contrast, you shouldn't always think about saving money at school; spend what needs to be spent."

An Ying's few words diverted her daughter's attention.

"Don't worry, I won't treat myself poorly!" An Yin said, putting on an obedient and innocent look in the video, her bright eyes blinking like a naive and pure child.

An Ying was amused by her antics.

The two chatted a while longer before hanging up.

As usual, An Yin reviewed her lessons for a while. Seeing the bright moonlight outside and glancing at the time, it was past eight, time for sleep.

Standing up and stretching, she was about to get her pajamas for a shower when the phone rang.

Seeing Jiang Keke's call, An Yin picked up.

"Yinyin... hic..."

Jiang Keke's slurred voice came through the phone, accompanied by the sound of hiccups.

"Keke, what's wrong?" An Yin asked anxiously.

"I... I drank a little." On the other end, Jiang Keke continued to mumble with grievance, "I called Ah Cheng but couldn't get through, so I didn't know who else to talk to and saw your number..."

"Where are you? Are you alone?" An Yin couldn't help asking.

"Mm, alone, at 'Lying Down'." Jiang Keke stammered.

"Lying Down?"

An Yin remembered Bao Cheng's newly opened club.

"Stay there, don't move, I'll come." Thinking of her friend drinking alone there, An Yin couldn't help but feel anxious.

Despite her lingering fears about that club, thinking of her friend's safety made An Yin overcome her inner fear. Grabbing a light blue jacket and wearing it, she rushed out, her steps hurried.

After autumn, the night felt cool.

Even while wearing a jacket, one could feel the chill in their bones.

An Yin had been frail since childhood and was especially sensitive to the cold.

After stepping out of the school gate, the autumn wind howled by, evoking a sense of melancholy. Always timid, An Yin shrank her body, took out her phone, and called for a car.

Waiting in the wind for four or five minutes, the car finally drove up slowly.

She carefully checked the license plate before getting in.

She didn't want to experience the embarrassment of getting into the wrong car again.

"Miss, going to the city center so late?" The driver's hearty voice sounded.

An Yin's heart tightened. She wasn't used to chatting with strangers, and softly replied, "Mm."

"Haha, rare to meet such a pretty young lady, got a bit excited. Don't mind my chattiness." The driver glanced at her through the rearview mirror, looking slightly shy.

An Yin, "..."

What should she say?

"Thank you!" An Yin finally managed to say two words.

All the way, the driver continued chatting enthusiastically, embodying the term "chatterbox" to its fullest. Even when she got off, he was still cheerfully chatting away.

An Yin nearly jumped out of the car as soon as it stopped, quickly said "Thank you, driver" and trotted off towards Bao Cheng's club.

The driver watched the girl flee and couldn't help scratching his head, wondering: Am I that scary?

Then he looked in the rearview mirror.

Ugh... Definitely quite ugly!

Seems this pretty girl is quite shallow, judging people by looks at such a young age! The driver thought to himself.

The "Lying Down" club was situated in the busiest area of the commercial street, with many people passing by, and the colorful neon lights on the roadside added a touch of enchanting color to the night, enticing people to indulge.

An Yin's thin and slender figure weaved through the crowd, where people stopped to chat just a little distance apart along the lively street.

When passing by some of the guys, they whistled, trying to catch her attention.

Encountering such situations, An Yin hurried her steps.

In the distance, Assistant Lin was just coming out of "Blue Print Hotel," and upon looking up, he saw a familiar figure.

Though she was in a hurry and he only caught a glimpse of her side face, his sharp eyes immediately recognized her.

It was her!

The girl who got in the wrong car last time.

Who called Mr. Bao "brother"!

Assistant Lin paused, feeling quite puzzled about why he suddenly paid attention to her?
