Chapter 61: Chapter 61: Take the Medicine and Go Back to Sleep

Harry poked his small head out, eyeing her, then let out a loud howl in her direction. This sound was brimming with attempted intimidation, as if retaliating for how she had frightened him moments before. The tabby stripes on his head looked quite majestic, making him resemble a proud little tiger.

Sophie Sullivan listlessly rubbed her cheek against the silky pillow. "Young Master, is something wrong?"

Does he need a reason to find her? What kind of logic is that! Thomas Shannon’s handsome face darkened. He sat down on the edge of the bed, placing one hand on her forehead to check her temperature.

"Take the medicine before you sleep."

"Where’s the medicine?" Sophie closed her eyes wearily.

"On the bedside table. Get it yourself."

Sophie faintly opened her eyes, her hoarse voice holding a hint of playful protest. "Young Master, I’m a patient."

The implication was clear: shouldn’t he take care of a patient? For example, by pouring water and giving her the medicine?

Thomas Shannon frowned slightly, his expression tinged with disgust. "Haven’t I told you? Your gruff voice isn’t suited for coquetry."

Sophie was speechless. Is a pleasant conversation too much to ask?

Slowly, she struggled to sit up. Sophie saw the medicine on the bedside table. She got out of bed and unhurriedly poured herself a glass of water.

She swallowed the tablet with the water.

She returned to the bed, moving past Thomas Shannon, and lay straight down. She had thoroughly made herself at home in this comfortable, large bed, showing no restraint whatsoever!

Thomas Shannon pulled the thin quilt off her. Sophie looked slightly annoyed. "What are you doing?"

"Go back to your bedroom and sleep."

"No."

The beds in the backyard couldn’t compare to the comfort of his. She wasn’t used to them; one night’s sleep there left her aching all over. freёweɓnovel_com

Realizing he intended to kick her out, Sophie was instantly on high alert. "Young Master, don’t forget you admitted in front of Minimus Hart that I could enter your bedroom and sleep in your bed. Are you going back on your word now?"

A sly smirk played on Thomas Shannon’s lips. Before he could speak, Sophie interrupted him, "A person must keep their word to earn respect. Understand?"

This little maniac! Give her an inch, and she’ll take a mile!

Thomas Shannon reached out, seized her chin, and pulled her face close to his. "Maniac, has no one ever taught you not to push your luck?"

"You’re the one who called me a maniac. Who would bother teaching a maniac not to push their luck?"

"Are you a maniac?"

"If the Young Master says I am, then I am."

Thomas Shannon scoffed. "Sharp-tongued."

He then released her chin and gently stroked Harry’s head with one hand. "Enough of this ruckus. Tell me, what exactly has been happening these past few days?"

Sophie scoffed internally. Does he really think I was just spouting nonsense, making up lies to deceive him?

"Everything I told you earlier is the truth."

"The truth?"

Thomas Shannon’s eyes narrowed slightly. "Minimus Hart entered the castle to begin her training at eighteen and started undertaking missions at twenty. She became the leader of the maids because her abilities commanded respect."

"Are you saying I’ve wronged her?" Sophie sat up in anger, her gaze tinged with ferocity.

"Why would she target you for no reason?"

"How would I know what’s gotten into her? Of all people, why target me?"

After her brief flare of anger, Sophie paused to think, then growled in exasperation, "Isn’t it all because of you? If it weren’t for you, would I be targeted? Would I be tortured?"

Startled by her suddenly raised voice, Harry flinched, immediately retracting his head and cowering in Thomas Shannon’s embrace.
