Chapter 708: Chapter 711: Good girl, take your medicine first.

From the moment Sophie Sullivan was wheeled into the operating room, he stood there, unmoved.

"Young Master, the surgery won’t be over any time soon. Why don’t you have a seat?" Charlie River tried to persuade him. 𝓯𝙧𝙚𝒆𝙬𝙚𝒃𝙣𝙤𝒗𝓮𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢

Thomas Shannon didn’t heed the advice; his gaze was fixed on the closed doors of the operating room the entire time.

The surgery, which had lasted for over eight hours, finally ended in the evening.

Sophie, still under the influence of anesthesia, was pushed out of the operating room. George Stanford took off his mask, looking utterly exhausted.

Seeing Thomas Shannon, he volunteered, "Young Master Shannon, rest assured, the surgery was very successful."

Thomas Shannon’s grim expression softened. "Dr. Standford, you’ve worked hard," he said.

The eight-hour-plus surgery had indeed exhausted George Stanford.

After giving a few instructions, he returned to his room to rest.

Sophie was taken back to her room. Her face was wrapped in thick gauze, and blood had seeped through, staining it red. It was an appalling sight.

"Young Master, don’t worry. The maniac will wake up when the anesthesia wears off."

The nurse gently explained from the side, deeply afraid that Young Master Shannon was too worried.

Thomas Shannon nodded slightly. "There’s nothing more for you here. You may leave."

"Yes, Young Master."

The nurses filed out of the room. Charlie River and the black-clothed man stood guard at the doorway.

Thomas Shannon sat by the bedside, his gaze falling on the uninjured side of Sophie’s face. He reached out and took her small, cold hand.

"Fennie, how long are you going to stay angry?"

The room was very quiet; only the dripping sound of the IV drip could be heard.

This question was destined to go unanswered.

「11:00 p.m.」

Sophie woke groggily. She struggled to open her eyes; the first thing she felt was pain.

The pain was so intense her head throbbed, and her nerves pulsed.

She couldn’t suppress a cry of pain.

"Fennie, have you woken up?"

A familiar voice reached her ears.

Sophie’s muddled head suddenly cleared. Her gaze slowly moved downwards, finally landing on Thomas Shannon, who was sitting by her bedside.

"Why are you here?"

What was meant to be an imposing question, once spoken, only made Sophie realize how weak she was.

Her voice was soft and weak. It sounded less like a question and more like a coquettish plea.

Thomas Shannon held her hand and chuckled softly. "You had surgery; how could I not be here?"

Sophie suddenly gasped, the pain causing her upper and lower teeth to chatter uncontrollably.

"What’s wrong?" Thomas Shannon’s smile stiffened, his expression instantly turning grave. He leaned closer, his eyes filled with worry as he looked at her. "Is the wound hurting?"

Sophie was in too much pain to speak, half of her face numb. Thomas Shannon immediately called for a nurse.

George Stanford had given instructions earlier that morning. He had listed all the potential problems Sophie might experience after waking up, along with their corresponding treatments.

George Stanford was still resting in his room, so a nurse quickly came in. "Maniac, is your wound hurting?" she asked.

Sophie managed an affirmative sound. The nurse immediately took out the prepared painkiller. "Take this medicine first; it will provide some relief."

Thomas Shannon carefully helped her sit up, letting her lean back against his chest. The nurse held a water cup in one hand and the medicine in the other, about to give it to Sophie.

Thomas Shannon frowned deeply. "I’ll do it."

He took the water cup and held it to Sophie’s lips. Sophie pressed hers together, refusing to drink.

"Fennie, this isn’t the time to be sulking."

"..."

"Be good now, take the medicine first."

Ultimately, reason overcame her pride. Sophie opened her mouth, drank some water to wet her throat, and then swallowed the painkiller.
