Passerby Villain In A Wizard World-Chapter 269: Conch Of A Siren
---
[Name: Nyxroot Larvae (Mutated)]
[Race: Spirit]
[Attribute: Darkness / Shadow]
[Origin: Born from the corruption and baptism of a Nyxroot Seed by ancient blood essence and residual dragonfire.]
[State: Semi-Formed / Bound to Root Core]
[Description: A shadowy, half-ethereal larvae evolved with the blood of a powerful existence. Although weak, they are a formidable force together. Adept at camouflage and shapeshifting, they are incredible as scouts and infiltrators if subdued.]
---
"Screech..."
The larvae’s cry was creepy, especially in this bloody forest. However, they seemed utterly weak with no defense, as they showed no resistance to Arvhael’s attack.
Maybe it was because lightning was their nemesis, Ian didn’t know.
However, after seeing their information, he knew that these little guys were actually the scouts scattered around.
"Don’t let your guard down! These little guys are quite formidable when they are together."
Sure enough, Ignysyl immediately warned after seeing that Arvhael was destroying the larvae around.
Once you attacked, you were basically declaring war against them. So, it wouldn’t be surprising if they were attacked relentlessly now.
"Swish!"
It seemed Ignysyl’s warning was timely, as a long, whip-like tendril suddenly shot out from the front, crashing heavily against the Tempest Barrier, striking with momentum.
"Bang!"
However, it didn’t seem that strong, as it literally shattered the moment it made contact with the barrier.
With this, they also realized the "whip" was actually one of the roots from the tree around them, as evidenced by the splintering wood and the blood that splashed out.
"Be careful!"
Although the whip shattered as soon as it came near his barrier, Arvhael’s face wasn’t looking good.
"Swish!"
This was because the whip wasn’t alone. Or more importantly, it wasn’t the only root that had come alive—there were numerous others, all awakening at once.
"Bang!"
Another one shattered as soon as it landed on the barrier, breaking apart wood and blood just like before.
However, it wasn’t the last one either, as suddenly, one after another tree root sprang forth from the ground, attacking the barrier from all angles as if angry.
It almost looked like the bloody forest had come alive.
’Are they controlling it?’
Ian thought, seeing a similar shadowy figure attached to the root of the trees. It looked like they were trying to destroy the barrier by exhausting Arvhael’s mana reserve.
"They are intelligent."
Ignysyl saw Ian’s look and answered his confusion. He had tread this path before and knew some of their methods.
"Is it... because of blood?"
Ian asked as he carefully looked at the larvae, that looked no different from before. Only now they were coordinating together, attacking them from various angles.
Moreover, it seemed they realized coming in contact with the tempest wasn’t a good choice, so they simply began to use tree roots, branches, and such, trying to break it with numbers.
"Yeah, did you also notice?"
Ignysyl smiled after hearing Ian’s guess. His eyes sparkled a little as if excited at the mention of the blood.
"Umm...."
Ian nodded and then replied to the little dragon, but this time through telepathy,
’Rules... this blood has a hint of the Power of Rules, just like your fire.’
In fact, the moment Ian entered this forest, he already felt something odd yet familiar. But now that he was almost at the center of the forest, he already knew what it was.
It was the power of rule, just like Ignysyl’s Rule of Fire.
Only, the rule here seemed faint and ownerless. But it was enough to give birth to such strange creatures as Nyxroot Larvae.
"Haha... you are right. Can you believe this? This kind of low-level place has something that is related to rules. If I didn’t feel it myself, I wouldn’t believe it."
Ignysyl laughed and replied to Ian through telepathy. He seemed genuinely surprised yet excited at the same time.
"Yeah, it is indeed surprising. But..."
Ian also agreed to his words and then suddenly asked curiously,
"...how did you find this place?"
Actually, this was the thing he wanted to ask him the first time they met. But this little dragon was too unrestrained and didn’t give him a chance.
After all, this place was quite far and hidden from that hanging garden. And he didn’t believe this guy found this place simply by searching around.
"Hmm? Oh... that... haha."
Ignysyl was stunned by Ian’s question and suddenly became awkward. He also realized that he hadn’t said the most important part.
"Well... how do I say it? Hmm... will you believe me if I said I found this place because of these shadows themselves?"
The little dragon asked Ian, looking a little awkward, as if even he wouldn’t believe it. However, this was exactly what happened before.
"Hmm? Do you mean, a shadow just like these appeared in the hanging garden?"
Ian was also stunned by Ignysyl’s answer. Because this doesn’t make sense.
"Yeah, it was right outside at the edge. I was also confused when I saw it for the first time. But once it detected me, it rapidly ran away, ultimately leading me here."
Ignysyl answered, a little confused.
Now that he thought about it, it felt quite weird. Especially after knowing that these larvae were intelligent.
There was no way they would invite an enemy into their home turf, would they?
"Ugh... Sir Ian, what do you think we should do? There are just too many."
Just when Ian and Ignysyl were talking among themselves, Arvhael suddenly shouted as he finally couldn’t take the barrage of attacks.
It wasn’t that he was weak; it was just that there were just too many.
Moreover, what they used to attack his barrier were roots and the like, and he couldn’t even destroy them like before without going outside.
If he continued to allow them to do this, even if he had a massive mana reserve, he would be emptied in no time.
"Let me help you."
Before Ian could reply, though, Morgana, who had been silent all this time, suddenly spoke. Then, without waiting for an answer, she suddenly took out a colorful Conch from her mana ring.
"An artifact?"
Ian looked at the fist-sized conch in Morgana’s hand in surprise.
It seemed he forgot that Morgana was actually a Siren Queen and was a sea inhabitant. So, a conch-shaped artifact shouldn’t be a surprise.
"Open the barrier."
Morgana asked Arvhael after taking out the conch and placing it close to her mouth.
"Sir?"
However, Arvhael didn’t follow her wish but asked Ian. Only when he saw Ian nod did he slowly weaken the barrier around, but not completely cancel it. He seemed quite cautious.
"Bang!"
And of course, the Nyxroot Larvae didn’t let this opportunity go, as all of a sudden, a large number of tree roots gathered around and swept towards them with extreme momentum.
"SHHHHRRRIIIIEEEEE"
However, before their attack could even come near, a sudden high-pitched, stretching screech that was like a banshee’s wail ripped through the air, causing the very ground beneath them to tremble.
The sound was so sharp and loud that it pierced the silence like a razor, shattering the tension in an instant.
Even the roots recoiled violently, as if the air itself had become a weapon.
"Damn!"
Ian looked at Morgana blowing the conch and couldn’t help but curse as it was just too loud. Even when he wasn’t the one being targeted, he felt irritated.
He thought she would play some kind of hypnotic tune with that beautiful conch of hers.
Who would have thought she was going to blow the fuck out of it like a trumpet?
"Screech..." 𝑓𝘳𝑒𝑒𝓌𝘦𝘣𝘯ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝑚
However, it seemed that the attack was incredibly lethal to the small larvae.
As soon as Morgana blew the conch and the high-pitched sound bombarded them, the larvae became frantic.
They suddenly grew disoriented, the roots they controlled fell limp, and then, almost as if in sync, they burst open like popcorn.
It all happened at once — every larva caught within the reach of her conch’s sound ruptured without fail.
Within minutes, thousands of larvae burst into blood foams as they exploded from the high-pitched sound, with no time to even defend themselves.
With just one attack, she killed more of them than Arvhael had killed since the start.
It was a massacre, a kind of.
’Now no one will say I didn’t do anything, right?’
Morgana thought, finally releasing her mouth from the conch, feeling refreshed.
Maybe it was because she was the one who was killing those disgusting worms this time, she didn’t even feel aversion towards the blood foam like before.
Of course, she was still covered in her water barrier, though.
"So? What do you think?"
Once she saw that the coast was clear, Morgana looked at Ian with a proud look and asked.
After all, from the beginning, she was being carried by Ian. So, she felt that she should at least do something.
"Yeah, good. But... how many times can you blow that conch?"
Ian nodded at Morgana in approval and suddenly asked, signaling at her artifact.
"Hmm? How many times? Are you serious?"
Morgana was stunned by Ian’s words and rolled her beautiful eyes speechlessly,
"How can such an artifact be used multiple times? It will need a day to get charged at least."
She said, pouting and quickly keeping the conch inside her mana ring. She felt that maybe Ian got interested in her item.
However, to her surprise, Ian wasn’t one bit interested in her conch.
Instead, he just pointed outside towards the empty place that she had just cleared and asked,
"Then, who is going to kill them now?"
"Hm? What do you mean?"
