Path to Becoming the Greatest Space Mercenary-Chapter 196 The Augmentation Expert (3)
Needless to say, Avery, Kasandra, and Jasmine were all shocked to hear how old Dr. Raiti really was.
With the proper treatments and medicine, it was possible for humans to live to around two hundred years old, but aging could usually only be staved off so much.
Thanks to her unbelievably youthful face, Dr Raiti could probably pass for an older teenager if she wanted to, and if she wrapped her chest and wore some baggy pants to hide her more adult figure, she could probably be mistaken for even younger.
Frankly, Avery had figured that at the oldest she was in her late forties, after that, signs of aging typically started to creep through no matter how good the rejuvenation treatments a person received were.
At sixty-eight, she was far older than Avery's parents, but she looked younger than him. Honestly, he would have considered her some genetic wonder if not for the fact that she had already admitted that her appearance was something she maintained due to her own procedures.
"It seems that you've all had the usual reaction." Mercedes said, laughing lightly at the astonished looks on Avery, Jasmine, and Kasandra's faces.
"But it really just comes down to using the right methods. I'm not like those mainstream rejuvenation hacks out there. All of them are only focusing on the cosmetic side of things and don't actually understand what makes a human body start to age. It all steams back to every induvial cell that makes up the body."
Dr. Raiti then went on a tangent and started spouting all manner of technical terms that none of them really understood. Yet once she had finished up, the last thing she said left all of them in wide-eyed disbelief.
"If my current calculations are correct, I should be able to extend my life to be six hundred years old." Mercedes said proudly.
This information was not just surprising, but downright unbelievable. There were records of a few humans living to a little over two hundred and fifty, but that seemed to be the extent of the human lifespan.
Some species within the Dramid Alliance lived longer than this, but there were not many. Felis Therianthropes like Kasandra had around the same lifespan as humans, if not a bit less on average.
To hear that it would be possible to make it to six hundred years old sounded like some sort of miracle.
"Of course, this is all just projections based on my current data and technology. As time goes on, I may find it possible to extend my life further, or there might be complications. There's one part of the body that's always fickle to deal with."
Dr. Raiti tapped on her head, and it became clear what organ she was talking about.
The brain was complex and there was no telling what sort of effect a long life would have on it.
"Now, I've also got some other things I've been working on." Mercedes said, a gleam in her eyes.
However, before she could get lost on another tangent, Avery quickly interjected and brought the conversation back to the reason that they were here.
"Not to say that we're not interested in your research, but we do have a timetable to stick to. I've got a couple of jobs to complete in the Dramid System coming up, and don't want to end up being late."
"Oh, I guess I got carried away. I don't have visitors too often, so I tend to talk their ears off." Dr. Raiti said apologetically.
After that she pulled up some release forms protecting her from legal liability should something go wrong during any of the augmentation procedures she was about to perform.
Nevertheless, there was less than a hundredth of a percent of failure, and so far, Mercedes had never had any complications with any of her past clients, so Avery, Jasmine, and Kasandra saw no need to worry. If they were to afraid of problems occurring from these augmentations, then they would not be getting them in the first place.
Once the three of them had finished signing a bunch of documents, it was time to complete the necessary payment.
Everything had to be given up front, and when he had finished the transaction, Avery watched twenty-seven and a half million Krenin disappear from his account.
"Okay, I've received the money. Let's get started."
Dr. Raiti got up from her chair and led the three of them out of her office and deeper into the facility.
Soon they reached a large room filled with many types of apparatus that were completely unfamiliar to Avery, Jasmine, and Kasandra.
"Ah, I should have probably asked this earlier. I'm going to need all of you to strip down to nothing for the procedures. Are you fine all being in the same room? I have smaller facilities I can use if you want to be alone." Mercedes said, having completely forgotten that some people got embarrassed undressing in front of others.
She had created some awkward situations in the past, and this time she had nearly forgotten again, on account of the relationship Avery had with both Kasandra and Jasmine.
"No, it's fine. We've all seen each other naked before." Kasandra replied.
"Yeah, it's a bit late for modesty now." Jasmine said, her cheeks tinged slightly red.
As for Avery, he had no problem with his two girlfriends seeing him undress, but he was a bit embarrassed with Dr. Raiti around. She may have been sixty-eight, but she looked dangerously young.
Still, it was necessary for there to be no obstructions for some of the augmentation procedures, and soon Avery, Kasandra, and Jasmine were standing in front of large tanks that they would soon be sealed inside where the procedure would take place.
"Good it seems that you're all well-groomed. Though, I'm still going to need to laser off any hair on your bodies except for your heads. Don't want it getting in the way." Dr. Raiti said casually.
Except, Avery, Kasandra, and Jasmine had noticed her gaze linger for just bit when looking at a certain part of Avery.
This had Kasandra and Jasmine glaring at the doctor, and Avery looking away awkwardly.
Since no one said anything though, Mercedes merely ignored their expressions and grinned mischievously.
"Now, everyone inside the tanks. The entire process is going to take a different amount of time for each of you. I think it will be about four days for Kasandra since a lot of the base work is already done, six for Jasmine, and Avery, to complete what you want, I'm probably going to need about ten days."
Dr. Raiti had already informed them of the approximate length of time the augmentations would take so the three of them merely nodded in response.
There had been people in the past that had gotten nervous and called it quits at this point, so Mercedes just wanted to make sure that they were resolved to lose some of their time. For the duration of the procedures, all of them would be rendered unconscious.
Some of the work was going to be inconceivably painful. To remain awake during it would be an experience that would mentally scar a person for life. Hence why it was imperative that they not remember anything.
When they were directed to, Avery, Kasandra, and Jasmine stepped into their designated tanks and waited.
At the control panel off to the side, Dr. Raiti input a few commands, and a small spray injector popped out from a compartment on the left side of the tanks.
Simultaneously, all three of them felt a slight pressure as a strong sedative was injected into their arms.
Within less than five seconds, Avery, Kasandra, and Jasmine were completely knocked out. Nothing other than the correct counteractive sedative would be able to wake them up right now. Even if the loudest, most violent war in history was going on around them, they would have slept right through it.
"Hehe Hehe." Dr. Raiti chuckled.
She had been keeping her composure well, but now that shew as effectively alone again, she no longer kept a hold on her eccentricity.
"This is going to be so much fun. I haven't had a chance like this in so long. When was the last time anyone actually agreed to have one of the specially designed organs I painstakingly developed implanted into their body. Everyone's so fearful of it, but it's clearly incredibly effective. I've done it to myself already, so I know that I works well. Thanks to you Avery. I'll be getting some good data from you. I only wish that you would have agreed to more. Perhaps I should have offered a better discount to entice him." Dr. Rait said, lost in her own world.
Typing away at her console, Mercedes engaged the tanks, and each one filled up with a transparent green liquid. Soon her three test subjects slash customers were floating in the tanks, unaware of anything that was going on around them.
