Path To Godhood Begins With Marrying Wife And Gaining SSS Rank Skill-Chapter 418: There Is Nothing Absolute
After having a brief talk with Ray, Amber requested an audience with Ethan.
Ethan did not refuse. Instead, the two decided to meet in the palace park, walking side by side beneath tall trees whose leaves swayed gently in the evening breeze. The path was paved with white stone, and faint golden lights hovered above, illuminating the flowers and trimmed hedges. It was quiet, peaceful, almost too calm after everything that had happened.
Amber walked with her hands clasped behind her back, her steps light but hesitant.
"Sir Ethan," she said after a moment of silence, her voice careful, "can you perhaps not inform my father?"
Ethan, who had been walking a step ahead, suddenly stopped.
He froze for a brief moment, then let out a tired sigh. Turning slightly, he gave her a weary smile. "Lady Amber, I have already informed His Highness Lancelot."
Amber’s expression drained of color instantly.
Her shoulders drooped, and she looked up at Ethan with wide, glossy eyes, almost like a scolded puppy. The sight made her seem far younger than her true age.
She felt it was too cruel.
"Lady," Ethan continued gently, "you have to understand my difficulty too."
Amber lowered her gaze as he spoke.
"If I do not inform him," Ethan said, "I will be found guilty later and may face consequences. Also, our presence in the Frontier is a very big matter. It is not something that can be hidden or ignored."
He resumed walking, his hands clasped behind his back.
"It is good that the Emperor of Arcadia still hasn’t held us accountable this time," he added calmly.
"However, we cannot say for sure what the future holds."
Amber slowed her steps.
She looked down at the path and fiddled with her fingers like a small child caught doing something wrong. The hem of her cloak brushed softly against the stones.
After a while, Ethan glanced at her from the corner of his eye.
"Do you still not want to return home?" he asked curiously.
Amber looked up at his face and nodded without hesitation.
"I don’t like staying at home," she said honestly."It feels suffocating."
Ethan studied her quietly.
Given that she had reached Legendary rank at such a young age, her father must have supported her greatly. It was strange for someone so accomplished to feel trapped by their own home.
Amber noticed his silence and waited for a bit before speaking again. "Aren’t you curious about the reason?"
"I am," Ethan admitted with a small chuckle, "but it might be rude to ask you directly."
"It’s not rude," Amber replied quickly. She hesitated for a moment, then continued. "I just don’t like my father because he did a lot of things when he was the Emperor’s right-hand man."
Ethan opened his lips to respond, then stopped himself.
That position alone carried weight, and weight always came with blood, dirt, and decisions that could never be clean. No one who stood that close to power came out with spotless hands.
Ethan chose not to say it out loud.
Instead, he turned his gaze forward and spoke calmly. "Everyone has their own difficulties."
Amber slowed again, listening carefully.
"Judging from our mere perspective is ridiculous," Ethan continued. "The world is vast, and sometimes things that look evil to us might be good from a broader perspective."
He paused briefly, then added, "There is nothing absolutely black or white. It always depends on reference and circumstance. So I suggest you first try to understand his situation and properly know what he has done, rather than forming a biased belief."
Amber’s eyes widened slightly at the unexpected reprimand.
For a moment, words rose to her lips. She wanted to argue, to say that some actions could never be justified. But when she looked at Ethan’s calm expression and heard the weight behind his words, she swallowed everything back.
She fell silent.
The two continued walking as the wind rustled the trees above them. A pair of birds fluttered past, breaking the stillness.
Knowing the conversation had reached its end, Ethan finally stopped and turned toward her.
"Lady Amber," he said, his tone gentle but firm, "the news must have already reached the Duke. He will likely send someone to accompany you back. Until then, you are our guest."
Amber lifted her head, startled.
Before she could say anything, Ethan inclined his head politely, then turned around and walked away down the path. His footsteps were steady and unhurried, gradually fading into the distance.
Amber stood there alone.
She clenched her hands and puffed her cheeks slightly, frustration written all over her face as she stared at his retreating back.
Why did he feel so approachable yet so cold at the same time?
She let out a small sigh and kicked a pebble off the path, watching it disappear into the grass.
The evening lights continued to glow softly around her, but her thoughts were anything but calm.
........
For the next few days, Amber immersed herself in the world of the Blanks.
It felt as if an entirely new world had opened before her eyes. The city was well maintained, with clean roads, orderly buildings, and a sense of balance that was rare to find anywhere else. The people were surprisingly friendly, greeting strangers with polite smiles instead of suspicion. Even merchants and guards carried themselves with discipline and restraint.
Any chaos that erupted was dealt with quickly.
The Black Thorns monitored everything from the shadows. If anyone from the Public Safety Department dared to cross the line, abusing power or harassing civilians, they were taken care of swiftly and quietly. There were no public trials, no loud announcements, yet the results were always visible.
In fact, there was a saying circulating among merchants and travelers.
If you wanted to gain a high position by doing shady work, you should leave this place immediately, because the Lord’s hands stretched very far.
Amber found that strangely comforting.
What came next amazed her even more.
