Peaceful Life System: I only need to live peacefully-Chapter 144: Endgame (11)
Chapter 144: Endgame (11)
"Your Majesty, can I ask for something?" She turned to King Harius, who was now standing next to her.
"Huh? What is it?" King Harius was confused. Where was this coming from?
"I only have 1 wish. There is a Vestal of the inner flame in the Church of Light who goes by the name Lysaria. I only hope that you can help remove her from the Vestal position without any repercussions."
"What are you even talking about..."
"Please, Your Majesty, consider it as the only wish as someone who has been devoted to the kingdom for all her life. I beg you. Don’t worry, she would like that as well." Seraphina stood before the king, bowing resolutely.
"Okay... I promise. But what do you want to do.." The king, still confused, asked the bowing high archon in front of him.
Seraphina, however, did not explain her actions.
With a final, desperate prayer on her lips, she launched herself into the air, a shooting star of pure, blazing light, aimed directly at the head of the giant.
"High Archon, no!" Gregor screamed, realizing her intent as he saw Seraphina head straight towards the mouth of the huge giant. "Stop!"
King Harius watched as well, his face a mask of disbelief. "SERAPHINA! COME BACK RIGHT NOW!"
However, both of their screams were lost in the giant’s huge cry as it opened its mouth, aiming to swallow Seraphina fully. Seraphina, charging at full throttle, just smiled.
"Goodbye...It has been a pleasure."
"SERAPHINA!" King Harius’s desperate scream was lost in the chaos.
Seraphina closed her eyes, ready for the searing pain. She had channeled all of her remaining strength into her blade, intending to detonate herself within the beast, a final, desperate act to save the city she loved.
Instead of feeling surrounded by monstrous energies, she felt... nothing. The suffocating, foul aura of the Creep that had filled the giant’s gullet vanished in an instant. The monstrous flesh around her, once hard as iron, suddenly became soft, yielding, and weak.
Her eyes snapped open in shock. Her suicidal charge, now unopposed by any malevolent power, carried her forward. The blade, still blazing with the last remnants of her life force, cut through the now-powerless flesh like a hot knife through butter.
Out of all expectations, she didn’t detonate. She sliced clean through.
Seraphina burst from the giant’s belly in a spray of gore and fading light, landing unsteadily on her feet on the quarry floor, her sword still clutched in her hand. She stared in disbelief at her own hands, then back at the giant.
The colossal creature stood frozen for a moment, its single red eye flickering, then extinguishing. A web of cracks slowly started to spread across its massive body.
With a final, loud groan, the Creep Giant exploded, not in a wave of dark energy, but in a shower of inert dust and rock, collapsing into a mountain of harmless debris.
A stunned silence fell over the battlefield.

Within the troubled city of Luxia, the citizens waited with bated breath. Though the recent developments had helped the people manage the Creep effectively, the recent attack by the giant had left the city in terror again, with everyone afraid for what would come next.
"Maa, why are you so worried?" A little girl asked her mother.
The woman, her face slightly marred by faint marks of the crimson creep, turned to her daughter.
"I am worried because there is a huge monster that is trying to kill everyone with the red disease again. Tantan, don’t you think that monster is a bad guy?"
"Bad guy, very bad guy." Tantan vigorously nodded. "Maa, Tantan would like to do something to help."
"Very good. Now sit down here, close your eyes, fold your hands, and start to pray."
"Will this help us get rid of the monster and the disease?"
"Of course," The woman nodded with an enthusiastic smile.
"Then, Tantan will pray."
Cutely, the small girl sat down and folded her hands.
"Light.. Light.. come faster.
Destroy the red disease and the monster."
(A/N - please don’t bash me for a lame-ass poem, it is just a child praying.)
The woman, hearing Tantan start praying, closed her eyes as well. Though she knew that it was a far cry, it was better to have her daughter believe in something.
"Maaa, you were right. It worked!!"
"Tantan, you have to concentrate more. Do you think the Light will hear you if you do not concentrate enough?" The mother admonished her daughter, thinking that she was too fickle.
"Nooo. It really worked. See, the marks on your face are already fading away." Tantan spoke excitedly.
"What?!"

By now, miracles had started to happen all over the place. All the people, young or old, everyone who had the creep started recovering fully one by one. Even Marquis Gregor, who was still reeling from the shock of what he had just seen, slowly recovered, his crimson marks slowly melding into his body.
And on the battlefield, the soldiers who had been corrupted, their eyes glowing red, blinked slowly, with color in their eyes. The madness receded from their minds, leaving them confused, exhausted, but sane. They looked at their own hands, at their comrades, and lowered their weapons.
The Creep was gone.
From everywhere.
All eyes in the quarry turned to the solitary figure standing before the mountain of rubble. Seraphina. She was drained, exhausted, and utterly bewildered, but she was victorious.
A single soldier, then a dozen, then the entire remaining army erupted in a deafening cheer.
"THE HIGH ARCHON!" "SHE DID IT! SHE SAVED US!"
The King stared, his face a mask of awe and profound relief. The Flame Matron, who had been watching the scene from a distance, laughed as well. "The Light has shown the way," she clambered.
Seraphina, still trying to understand what had just happened, saw the faces of her soldiers, of her King, all looking at her with pure, unadulterated reverence.
Caught in the moment, she did the only thing she could. She raised her glowing sword high into the air, a silent, triumphant salute.
"We...won!"
