Pestilence: Rise Of The Pure Undead-Chapter 516: Lost Forever?
"Alright, take off your clothes"
As per usual, Minli neither blinked nor stuttered when ordering a patient to undress themselves, even if it was certainly a bit stranger than normal when said patient was someone she knew personally, the little healer remained unfazed.
Especially since it was a daily occurrence since arriving in the Emerald Realm for this particular patient, many had received injuries that could not be immediately healed or were simply impossible to mend completely, as much as Minli as the talent holder in healing, most of this talent worked more on the surgery side of things and other traditional surgeries rather than healing with mana.
And she had been lacking in concoctions and other serums at the very beginning, quickly running out of them and unable to even properly use mana on top of that, so some treatments had run late.
When it came those who had lost limbs, Arzt had thankfully agreed to carving prosthetics for them, their quality was beyond anything Minli had even seen before, despite being from stone, they were just as flexible, sensitive and everything else as the real deal, on top of being more durable and allowing for greater energy circulation.
This certainly lifted a weight off of Minli’s shoulder, who had been feeling rather guilty of failing to fetch their lost limbs back, as even though she could not regrow lost limbs, the healer absolutely knew how to reattach them.
"Come on lay down over there" said the talent holder, pointing to a medical bed, her patient definitely knew the procedure by now, but Minli repeated herself anyways out of habit.
The types of injury one could suffer, and the severity of said wound could fluctuate drastically however…
"So how are you, Dasato? Have you noticed any amelioration, or issues since yesterday’s treatment?" asked the healer.
Dasato, the champion of crystal, had been having difficulties breathing properly since the confrontation with the scourge of life, her chest having shredded, reduced to minced meat down to the bones, it was honestly a miracle that no organs had been damage, she had defended well even if on nothing but instinct.
Still, it hadn’t been a pretty sight, muscles were completely destroyed, there was little left to potentially regrow from, but thanks to Spula’s work, Minli had been provided with resources to solve the issue, combined with her managing to get her mana working through the odd energy behaviour of this realm- Although still far from being as it once was, Dasato was well on her way to say goodbye to the pain soon.
Wide and long scars would remain afterward however, traces of the attack would refuse to fade.
"I have been feeling pretty good, just a little bit of itchiness" replied the woman, her long, somewhat purplish hair, colouration similar to the crystals she could manifest, spread out against the bed.
"I see, don’t worry about the itches, it’s just the concoction imbibed in the bandages" reassured Minli as she slowly unwrapped said bandages, soaked in liquid developed by Spula and carrying healing properties, these sort of things were the bread and butter of the little healer.
Fully removing the bandages entangled around Dasato like a corset, she threw them in a box behind her and carefully began probing for any part that could have healed improperly, on such a wide scale of damage, it wouldn’t be too surprising if the body messed up in its recovery.
"Does it hurt, when I touch- Here?"
"And there?"
"If I press a little harder?"
"No? Great then!"
Minli did not hold back on trying to find out even the most minute of potential problems, but it seemed like nothing was fazing Dasato, still, the crystal champion seemed a bit sad, contemplative even.
"Is something the matter?" asked the healer, shoving bandages in a bucket full of the same serum from before, even if everything was alright now, it did not mean that it was already the time to stop treatment.
"No… I mean, I never really thought about it before, I was young, a champion of my kingdom, life was supposed to still be long- I fought without wondering about much, I knew that injuries would occur, but I did not think of this" both her hands touched the scarred chest.
"They’re just gone, aren’t they? Never did I bother to think about having a family, but now I can only wonder how I can be a mother if I can’t feed my children"
’Oh’ Minli had not really given it any thought since those parts were technically not essential to Dasato’s recovery, she could live without them, from a purely practical point of view, at least.
"Don’t worry Dasato, it isn’t one hundred percent required, but…" she hesitated to finish this sentence.
"...Just don’t worry, with or without, you’ll make a great mother" in the end, she did not continue and just went with a simple encouragement, it was not right to give someone’s unfounded hope, Minli would have liked to say that her healing magic would progress far enough to restore everything to what it once was, but the truth was that this was highly unlikely to ever happen.
And anyways, it was no lie either, even if she couldn’t feed a child herself like others could, it didn’t really matter, still, Minli could only curse her incompetence, being incapable of restoring things besides the essentials might look good on paper, but it felt like she was failing her patients in many ways, just having to leave traces of their past injuries was a failure to Minli, she knew just how much Loimos still haunted them.
If only the physical remnants could be erased, perhaps it could help them forget and leave this dread behind.
Minli herself had not even been grazed by the undead, he had never gotten the occasion to dispatch the talent holder, and although terrifying, it was her own inability to heal everything that was most frightening.
Thankfully, Dasato was a bit volatile in her thoughts and emotions, one thing could quickly replace another, and as she remembered something, the champion of crystal blasted away the sorrow without even realising it.
"Oh! By the way, Minli" she began.
"I ran into some of the other girls, they have a nice spot, one of those heated ponds nicely isolated, want to come by?"
"You are going?" asked Minli.
"Yeah"
"Then I don’t have a choice I guess, I need to keep an eye on you still" the healer smiled, telling Dasato to come by whenever she was going to go there.
The champion dressed herself up and left the room, which was an area the sun worshippers had graciously given her on top of a room, probably finding her practice fascinating as this realm did not have much medical knowledge at all, at most, they ate plants and such that possessed healing virtues.
The beast worshippers healed and recovered easily thanks to their bestial vitalities, the sun worshippers however, they seemed to possess less quantifiable powers compared to their brethren, it was rare for any of them to use them outside of training purposes, so Minli supposed that they were meant for specific purposes only.
Putting all of her equipment and changing the wide cloth draped over the bed, Minli hummed quietly, not expecting any more regular patients today, which included :
Neige, the champion of snow, since the left side of her face had been ripped off.
Hoffnu, for a displaced spine.
Antieeld, to make sure that cut over her left eye did not get infected.

Marl, whose throat had received a hit and required some attention as it was difficult to evaluate the entirety of the damages inflicted.
And Merno, whose eyes had been utterly destroyed in a most savage manner.
But of course, she also took care of any recent injuries and illness as well, everyone knew where to find her.
Today, such a case did arise.
