Soon after the encounter at the gates, howls and screams that sounded like the unholy mixes of bestial fury and intense crying began ranging out throughout the mountains regularly, there was barely any hour during which the creature wouldn't cry out at least once, such auditive pollution and disturbance was of no problem to the undead, but Alkayne could notice that the people around the lake were growing uneasy, even from such great distance, he could feel their life force wobbling with fear and apprehension.

But curiously enough, he felt that it wasn't unknown that scared them, indeed, they seemed to know exactly what was making these noises and they were, logically, rationally terrified of it.

'Mmh…' the minor lord turned to the nun, Jiji, who had decided to sit in a corner whilst holding her legs up against her chest, whilst rocking back and forth for some reason.

"Heissbloom… At least offer the heissbloom… Hei-"

"Hey"

"Ah! I beg of thee, please do it slowly!"

"This obsession of yours is leading me to believe that you're actually looking forward to it" the zombie shook his head, there was definitely something weird about her, beyond that weird tooth of hers, like, about her core personality.

"Huh… No, no you're imagining things, I would never look forward to being shamed by an ugly, tall and scary creature that can so easily overpower me even if I put up as much resistance as possible…" Jiji offered up a prayer to Dame-Sommer afterward.

"I certainly hope other kalts aren't like you… But anyways, do you know what this screaming creature is? Is it an accursed?" he lowered himself to get down to her level.

She examined his face for a few seconds, which was just about the only portion of his body that could be seen, not hidden under durable armour as he wore an open-helm.

Although it might appear as though his visage was rotten like one would expect from the typical zombie, whilst it had certainly taken on an abnormal dark shade due to severe frostbites, his lips had fallen off after being frozen solid, his eyes still petrified in place and unmoving, although, there were bright scars and burns also to be found there however, caused by lightning strikes.

Giving a most fierce look to the minor lord.

"Hum… I have no idea what is making all that noise…" she responded.

It was Alkayne's turn to examine her, her expression, heartbeat, breathing… She did not appear to be lying, seems like she had really been holed up in that church all by herself and hadn't gotten to experience the ripples of the curse like the rest of the living population.

"Then, do you know what an undead is?" he shifted question, seeing the fearful masses had given him an idea.

"I am afraid I don't know either… Is it supposed to be something that should be dead but is not?"

"No, an undead is one of the dead, like I, we are corpses animated by death force…" he said, finding it odd how Jiji appeared to not have a clue even after receiving an explanation, this realm was not one who rejected death, undeads could exert their full might and there weren't any restrictions on anything else compared to the main world either, with the rise in death's influence, undeads had no reason to not naturally arise here.

In fact, Alkayne knew very well that frozen biomes such as this one were rather auspicious to the rise of undeads, death by freezing slowly weakened a living, the slow progress of such a fate meant that they were likely to die before the entirety of their life force could escape as unlike being directly killed, it wouldn't result in it rapidly exiting the body.

That was how he himself had become an undead when fighting in frigid peaks, he had been struck repeatedly by lightning and fallen of the side of cliff into a thick bed of snow, paralysed and stunned, with only his face sticking out of the snow, he had frozen to death right here and there before more snow had covered him up, although already an undead, he had remained perfectly frozen for years upon years, only finding the strength to rise when the empire of King Nitok first declared war on the living and the massacre caused a surge in all undeads.

"...So, the kalt as a whole do not know of undeath?" he pressed.

"Well, I do hope I would have been told if corpses could rise on their own… So I guess that no one knows of this…" she paused "...If you are a corpse, but you can move and do a bunch of things… Doesn't it sound like you are not a corpse at all?"

"Listen here, you little twat… Do not question undead terminology using living definitions, alright?"

"...You're going to ravage me if I do?"

"Still no"

"Oh… I mean, what a relief…"

'I really just had to run into a freak…'

"Hum… If you aren't going to keep me around for that- What will you do to me?" she asked.

"I was thinking of having you be dissected to learn about kalt anatomy, see if you people had any specific weaknesses and how you differed from the species that I know" he casually responded.

"Huh…"

"But do not fret, you will become an undead as well and experience existence as a superior being"

"And then you'll ravage me?"

"Seriously, what is your problem?" Alkayne was about to go on and explain all the perks of undeath but lost all his momentum as Jiji decided to be weird again.

"Nuns are the upper-women of kalt society, marrying and bedding one of us will grant the husband with the divine grace of Dame-Sommer, alright? That doesn't work in reverse with the priest- This is super special, moreover, I am already partly cursed, what if I turn into an accursed like the other nuns before I can do my due diligence, huh? I would be a failure and my parents would have been right! Argh, and who knows if Dame-Sommer will still hand out a blessing if I am an undead?! I would probably lose all warmth and be expelled from her watch! Oh please! You need to marry and deflower me before I die!"

"What in damnation- Let go of me will you? In that case, I'll just keep you alive…"

"Am I so repulsive that you won't even think about laying a hand on me? Sir undead, is it the monstrous tooth? I can break it off if you want!"

"I can not touch a prisoner in such a manner, that is highly dishonourable and isn't even conductive to anything-"

'Hold on…' if that was the actual manner one earned a divine blessing, wouldn't that be the perfect manner for him to confirm whether or not this Dame-Sommer is an actual deity or not?

'Better not let that little freak realise that…' still, he did not feel like engaging in such practice.

Though, to keep her calm he needed to at least pretend.

"Alright, I'll consider it?"

"You will?!"

"Yes… Where does one even find a Heissbloom?"

"They are grown by the Schneebiest, an immortal, ape-like creature!"

The zombie just looked at her silently.

"Tell me, Jiji, how many people actually manage to marry a nun?"

"Huh, if we count all in history, like three, I think? Ahaha, the men of the clergy are pretty powerful but marriage within the church is forbidden… Anyways, you can definitely get the flower from it, you look super strong!"

Not that he didn't appreciate the confidence she had in him for absolutely no reason as he hadn't the only things she had seen him do was lift her up and walk around, none of which were very impressive.

'How would not getting married be a sign of failure then? This woman clearly has a problem…'
