Picking Up Attributes In Martial World-Chapter 69: Accusations
Ye Jun saw death in Ye Heng’s attack. He was a Soul Tempering Realm Cultivator, more than enough to kill him a hundred times over with ease. His fast reaction speed and Ye Heng’s anger were the only reasons he could even react.
Such was the gap between the Qi Condensation Realm and the Soul Tempering Realm.
Yet, he found himself calm. Even facing death so closely, he was calm and unbothered. After everything he had seen in that dream, he truly couldn’t fear something like this anymore.
The sheer catastrophe on that scale had numbed him to a great degree. He just looked at the saber descending upon him and could only remember the sword that the Titanic Creature had driven through the world, destroying everything.
He didn’t dodge, as he knew there was no need to.
A sudden gust of cold wind brushed past his brows as a figure appeared before him. She was shorter than him, but she stood firm and tall.
Before he could even react to her presence, a terrible pressure descended from above, only to be stopped by the slender blue blade of Song Liangxue.
She dispersed the force behind the attack and said, "You have some guts trying to hurt my husband right in front of me."
"Step aside!" Ye Heng bellowed as he tried to push forward.
Before anyone could react, Song Liangxue moved again. She blurred past Ye Heng, and a thin trail of blood formed around Ye Heng’s neck, dripping down as his eyes widened in shock and disbelief.
Without even looking back, Song Liangxue said in a low voice, "Think before you speak. My grandfather taught me to be kind, so I’ll give you another chance. However..."
She glanced back at him and added, "The next cut won’t be this shallow. I can promise you that."
A dull silence followed as everyone stared at her in disbelief. Even Ye Jun was surprised. Not only because she supported him so openly, but also because of her cultivation.
’She is already in the Soul Tempering Realm?’
She wasn’t even a year older than him, perhaps. A Soul Tempering Realm Cultivator at the age of twenty was simply unheard of. At least, no one in Bright Star City knew of such an achievement.
As if that alone wasn’t enough, she wasn’t an ordinary Soul Tempering Realm Cultivator. Ye Heng was at the Second Stage, yet she had overpowered him so easily that the gap between them seemed like heaven and earth.
Ye Jun could understand their disbelief. Soul Tempering Realm Cultivators were esteemed Elders in a clan, usually reaching that realm in their thirties or even forties.
Yet, a young lady barely in her twenties had grown stronger than them. It left a bitter taste in their mouths, as if their decades of struggle meant nothing.
’Woah! I really made the bet of a lifetime. No way I could have surpassed her without my system,’ Ye Jun thought.
But then he thought of the lady beside him. Meihui was perhaps in her mid-twenties, yet she had confidence in defeating three Origin Realm Cultivators even in her weakened state.
’Bright Star City is so small,’ he realized. But instead of feeling bitter, he was actually excited. ’It just means I have so much more to explore.’
Coming out of his shock, anger replaced the disbelief on Ye Heng’s face as he gritted his teeth. "That bastard killed my son."
Just as Song Liangxue was about to speak, Ye Jun spoke first. "Honey, can I handle it from here?" 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦
She raised an eyebrow at the way he addressed her, then smiled and nodded. "As you wish. I’m merely here to protect you."
"I appreciate it," Ye Jun smiled, then turned toward Ye Heng. "That’s quite the accusation you’re piling up on me. When did I kill your son?"
"Don’t bother lying!" Ye Heng said, trying to contain his rage. "So many people here are witnesses to your demonic acts. You killed your clansmen. So many of them. Even the Ancestors won’t save you this time."
"I don’t need their saving since I’m innocent," Ye Jun said calmly, without a hint of shame on his face. "I say you’re just slandering me because you have no proof."
"Are you deaf?" Ye Heng almost lunged at him again, but by then Song Liangxue had stepped beside Ye Jun once more. "There are so many witnesses."
"Really?" Ye Jun turned toward Xie Yan and asked, "I wonder if the Xie Clan witnessed anything."
Xie Yan’s lips twitched as she wondered how someone could be so shameless. His face looked so innocent that even she almost believed his nonsense for a moment.
Still, she suppressed her annoyance and said, "No. Few of my clan members entered the Martial Exchange, and none of them saw anything Elder Heng is accusing him of."
"You!!!!"
Ye Jun ignored the furious Ye Clan members who were now even more hostile toward the Xie Clan. He turned to look at Tang Haoren, who was trying to fade into the background.
"Ah! Brother Haoren. Why don’t you tell us if the Tang Clan witnessed anything? Please, don’t think we are pressuring you. My wife here is very benevolent and won’t tolerate lies, though."
’Benevolent my ass!’ Tang Haoren cursed under his breath. ’You are clearly threatening me with her presence, yet you say such words? So shameless!’
Still, he cared about his clan’s survival and had received a subtle nod from his Patriarch, so he took a deep breath and said, "No. We did encounter the Ye Clan members a few times, but we kept our distance."
"And there you have it," Ye Jun smiled at Ye Heng, whose face looked as if it would explode at any moment. "So please, Elder Heng, don’t accuse me of such heinous crimes. Besides, you know me well."
He pointed at his face and asked, "Can’t you see my innocent face? I’ve lived my whole life in our manor because of my weakness. I can’t even kill ants, let alone my brothers and sisters."
Everyone gave him strange looks, wondering how someone could be this shameless and still keep a straight face. He spoke such nonsense as if he truly believed every word.
"I know what’s happening here," Ye Heng laughed bitterly. "You’re all just cowards. You fear retribution from the Song Clan, so you’re lying. You bootlickers are only capable of that."
