Playing inventor in a cultivation world-Chapter 17: Recognition
’Halo, does this have something to do with you?’
Although Seraph’s smile remained the same, his eyes had darkened considerably.
["Woah! Look who’s scary now. Heh~"]
It made a sarcastic remark, then went silent, choosing to avoid answering his question.
Since his family was around now, he decided to ignore the matter for now. Turning to look at them, he smiled professionally.
"It’s good you’re all here. Saves me the trouble of re-explaining."
His father and sister were shocked, but they composed themselves and prepared to listen to him.
Adopting a slightly serious expression, Seraph started. "To create this light bulb, I used four main materials—a few Lightning Ores, a full can of Corrosive Spirit Fluid from the Horntooth, a Luminous Spirit Orb, and a specific kind of metal I commissioned from the blacksmiths."
Seeing their understanding expressions, Seraph continued.
"Basically, I combined the lightning ore and corrosive fluids to generate enough lightning currents, then passed them through the metal wires into the luminous spirit orb.
"Ohh!" Yelena’s eyes lit up. "So it’s the lightning currents powering the light?"
Seraph nodded, his expression calm. "You’re right. With the two metal wires touching each other within the orb, they produce a radiant light which is repeatedly absorbed and dispersed by the luminous property of the orb."
"So... it’s essentially an immortal light?" His father asked, expression serious.
"No," Seraph shook his head. "The lightning currents consume the corrosive liquid greatly, and perhaps after a full day, this can will be completely depleted."
This was the only little limitation he had encountered. It was quite normal, after all. The batteries on Earth weren’t everlasting too.
"So a bigger size... like a drum, would be enough to power it for a longer time, right?" Kara asked with an incredulous expression.
She was slowly beginning to understand why her husband looked so serious. If they could truly get a bigger reservoir filled with the corrosive fluids and lightning ores, then the lights would surely last longer.
"Yes." He nodded, then tilted his head with a smile. "Well, what do you think?" 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝙚𝙬𝓮𝙗𝒏𝙤𝒗𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝒐𝓶
"My son is an absolute genius!"
Kara squealed, pulling him into a tight hug and patting his head affectionately. Yelena moved closer to the bright bulb, watching it curiously.
Meanwhile, Clem held his chin, pondering. ’I should inform the Patriarch about this and see if we can implement it within our clan. This would be a turning point in the advancement of science. However, I can’t risk exposing my son as the main inventor. I have to make it seem he simply assisted me. Else, he would be targeted by large clans and the likes.’
Deciding on that, he turned to his family and informed them of his plan. Seraph understood his father’s worry and agreed. After all, his target wouldn’t be affected at all.
"Alright. I’ll go inform the Patriarch now."
He said, then left the house in a hurry. Seraph removed the metal wires from within the can, cutting off their source of energy. Even then, the bulb still retained its glow for ten minutes before it turned transparent again.
"Alright, kids." Kara sprang up, a delightful grin on her face. "While your father is out, why don’t we prepare something delicious?"
Yelena gave a mature thumbs-up, while Seraph smiled and nodded.
"Alrighty!"
Skipping like a young girl, the woman lead her children to the kitchen.

Clem rushed to the Clan Manor, ensuring he was sweating to make it seem very important. When the Patriarch heard it was Seraph’s father who had come to see him, he let him in even though there was an ongoing meeting.
Standing before so many Elders and the Patriarch himself,, Clem felt a little intimidated. However, he steeled his nerves and raised his head.
"Greetings, Patriarch. Greetings, Elders."
He bowed slightly, earning some nods from them. Then he faced the Patriarch squarely.
"I’m actually here to inform you about the success of one of my experiments. This could practically change the whole world."
His words caused a ripple among the Elders, whispering to each other. However, they didn’t interrupt him, allowing him to continue speaking.
"So what’s this experiment about, Sir Skye?"
Clem nodded with a proud smile. "I created an artificial light source that does not release smoke into the air or anything of that kind. And in fact, it lasts longer than regular fire lanterns or bonfires."
"Oh?" Elder Cassius raised a brow, finally interested.
Clem turned to him and said. "It is a bit underwhelming but I believe creating this would be a major turning point for our Clan."
Gomen nodded, a thoughtful expression on his face. "If it is truly as you claim, then we’d be free from smoky rooms at night. Quite refreshing. Can we see it?"
Clem nodded enthusiastically. "Of course! Let me go back home to get it."
Suddenly, Elder Cassius stood up. "No. I’ll follow you."
"Eh? Really?" Patriarch Gomen was surprised.
"Yes. It has been a while I saw that brat since he graduated after all."
Smiling fondly, the man stood up, then followed Clem out of the meeting hall.
"How has your son been doing, Clem?"
He asked, adopting a calm and intellectual pose as they walked together.
Clem raised a brow, then hummed. "Seraph is doing well. I know he has broken through to the Initial Advanced Stage recently, and his training with the water and wind elements are improving."
"Oh, I see." Elder Cassius nodded, "Well, this might be strange, but have you noticed anything strange about him? Like secretly meeting someone or something?"
Clem frowned, seriously considering the question. "He hasn’t been going out lately... wait!"
He suddenly paused, then turned to look at the Elder in alarm. "Do you mean my son is already seeing women? Holy! I didn’t think this would be a genetic thing! He has received such a bad trait from me!"
Elder Cassius suppressed the urge to facepalm, placing a hand on the man’s shoulder reassuringly.
"No. That’s not what I mean. I just mean any strange behaviors."
"Oh, oh. Okay." Clem exhaled slightly, then said hesitantly. "Hmm. There’s nothing really strange. Except he still cuddles with his sister even at such a grown-up age. I wonder... could it be—"
"Stop, stop. Stop that thought, please." Elder Cassius sighed, exasperated.
"Forget I asked you anything. Let’s just head to your house and see your invention."
Clem nodded with a smile, but his thoughts were different. ’Does he suspect anything from my son? I need to be careful.’
Together, the pair headed towards the Skye household.
