Playtime's Over, CEO: She's Really Done With You-Chapter 498: I Came to Get You
But Serena refused to leave.
"Mom won’t leave you," Serena quickly said. "You’re my daughter. I won’t abandon you, Seraphina. Mom will never leave you alone, don’t be afraid."
After speaking, she bit into the rope again.
Seraphina was in unbearable pain.
Many years ago, she was abandoned by her biological parents because she fell ill.
She had long become accustomed to being left behind.
Abandoned.
Used to never being anyone’s first choice.
But then she met Serena.
She knew Serena liked her a lot, even Silas Hawthorne did later, but she didn’t dare hope for too much.
Even though she had already regarded Serena as her mom, she still didn’t dare to call her that.
Because she was afraid of being abandoned again.
No expectations meant it wouldn’t hurt too much.
So "Aunt Serena" was her last bit of self-preservation.
Luckily, Aunt Serena never forced her.
And always treated her well.
She thought they would always stay this way.
But now...
"Ugh, Aunt Serena, you should go," Seraphina said crying. "I’m not your biological daughter, go back and have another with Uncle Silas... "
"Maybe I should have died long ago; even my biological parents didn’t want me. I’m just redundant..." Seraphina cried.
Serena didn’t respond; the most important thing right now was to untie the rope.
Everything else could be explained once they got out.
Serena was using all her strength.
Once they were out, she would tell Seraphina that she would never let go of her hand.
Tell Seraphina she would be her precious jewel.
She loved Seraphina very much.
"Bang!"
Another gunshot rang out, accompanied by a grunt.
Someone was fighting fiercely in the fiery glow over there.
"Boom!"
The third explosion hit.
The factory quickly burned, and suddenly, Serena seemed to sense something.
"Aunt Serena, run!" Seraphina screamed, "Run fast!"
Serena jerked her head back.
A burning beam fell straight in Seraphina’s direction.
The ropes tying Seraphina hadn’t been undone yet!
Scenes flashed before Serena’s eyes.
Silas lay on the ground, covered in blood, his condition unknown.
Her mother slapped her angrily and stormed out of the hall.
The two over there fought to the death.
She couldn’t lose Seraphina!
It all happened in less than half a second, and the beam was already falling.
Serena embraced Seraphina, shielding her.
"Crack!"
"Cough, cough..."
The tremendous impact landed on Serena, causing her to spit blood.
"Serena!" In the distance, Julian’s voice drifted over.
But Serena could hardly hear it.
She had no strength left.
From morning till now, she had given all her effort.
She really... had tried her very best.
Tears continuously flowed from her eyes as Serena gently wiped Seraphina’s tears away.
"Seraphina is not redundant," Serena said hoarsely, her tears like broken pearls, yet she smiled gently.
Looking at Seraphina, with the burning beam above her, she said, "Seraphina is the person Mom loves most."
"Don’t belittle yourself," Serena said. "Seraphina deserves the best in the world..."
Serena’s voice grew fainter.
"Boom!"
Another explosion sounded, the shockwave hit her again.
Serena spat blood again.
"Aunt Serena!" Seraphina cried breathlessly.
Serena wanted to comfort Seraphina but didn’t have the strength to speak.
Her body ached everywhere, trembling uncontrollably.
It hurt so much.
So tired.
Since her father left, she seemed always tired.
Constantly struggling, no matter what, she always tried her last ounce of effort to solve any problem.
To find a slim chance of survival.
Through so many years, never giving up.
But this time, she was truly tired.
Really, so very tired...
She really wanted to return to her childhood, carefree, without worries, living happily with her parents every day.
She seemed to return to that sunny afternoon.
The breeze gently lifted the curtain, she was playing a piano piece, Dad bowed slightly to Mom, inviting her to dance.
Their happy family laughter and the piano music seemed to float through many years.
At that moment, Serena suddenly lifted her head.
"Serena." A beam of light seemed to shine down from the sky, her father appeared in mid-air, "Dad’s here to pick you up."
Serena smiled.
The pain on her body seemed to disappear at that moment.
"Dad..." Serena softly exhaled.
"Aunt Serena!" Seeing Serena unresponsive, Seraphina continued to cry and shout, "Aunt Serena, don’t scare me... You can’t leave Seraphina..."
"Aunt Serena!"
"Aunt Serena, speak!"
"Mom... Mom, talk to Seraphina... Mom, don’t leave Seraphina..."
"Help! Come save my mom!"
Crying filled this side.
In the sea of flames over there.
Julian knelt on the ground, having been shot in the leg, but he tackled Preston Langley to the ground.
They fought over the gun in Preston’s hand.
Vera Hansen had already been knocked out on the side, unconscious.
"Damn it, Julian, let me go!" Preston Langley struck Julian forcefully, but Julian refused to let go, wrestling for control of the gun.
They rolled on the ground, grappling fiercely.
Julian was anxious; he could hear Seraphina’s cries for help, but if he didn’t deal with Preston Langley first, he couldn’t make a move.
What to do...
At that moment—
"Thunk!"
A bloodied figure, burned all over, stumbled out of the fire.
He tackled Preston Langley and kicked the gun away.
It was Silas Hawthorne.
"Go check on Serena!" Julian immediately said, his body full of wounds, barely able to move.
"Help..."
Seraphina’s cries still resonated.
Silas Hawthorne, holding what he had, quickly approached Serena and Seraphina.
"Dad, save Mom, please, quickly..." Seeing Silas, Seraphina struggled desperately.
Without Seraphina needing to say, Silas was already trying to move that beam.
But it still wouldn’t budge.
A limping Julian arrived as well.
The two of them managed to move the beam off Serena together.
"Serena!" Silas immediately picked Serena up.
Her body was a bloody mess.
Tears blurred Silas’s vision; he clenched his teeth and grabbed a knife to cut the ropes binding Seraphina.
While leaning over, a shadow suddenly approached.
"Die!"
Suddenly, a shadow lunged.
"Preston Langley, no way!"
"Thunk!"
Julian was knocked aside by a forceful impact.
A beam fell, trapping Julian’s legs.
Vera came out from the shadows, having found a gun, standing with Preston Langley, raising it, glaring at them menacingly.
Silas looked at the two, then covered Seraphina’s eyes.
