Chapter 511: Chapter 511: High Fever, Seeing Her Smile

The hospital room remains unchanged as before, with Serena lying pale on the bed, various machines around her beeping rhythmically: "Beep, beep, beep..."

No matter how she is called, she seems unlikely to wake again.

"Knock, knock, knock."

The door was knocked.

Silas turned around and saw Seraphina standing at the door.

Seraphina walked to Silas’s side.

"Dad," Seraphina called softly.

Silas furrowed his brows tightly, an overwhelming sadness in his heart.

His hand on the side was clenched into a trembling fist.

With all his strength, he barely managed to control his emotions.

"Do the wounds still hurt?" he asked, not wanting Seraphina to see his sadness. He looked down at the wounds on Seraphina, previously sliced open by Preston Langley.

They had all been stitched up by the doctor and were now bandaged.

"They still hurt a bit, but they’ll get better," Seraphina said muffled, her eyes red.

She reached out to touch Silas’s knee.

"I heard Uncle Ford say you wounded your knees kneeling on the mountain for Mom’s safety," Seraphina said softly, "Does it hurt, Dad?"

Silas gently shook his head and said, "It’ll get better."

Thinking for a moment, Seraphina sat down and bent over to blow on his knee.

"If you blow on it, it won’t hurt, and will soon get better," Seraphina said.

Unable to hold back anymore, Silas reached out and embraced Seraphina in his arms.

Seraphina wrapped her small arms around him too.

"Dad, will Mom get better?" Seraphina asked in Silas’s arms, her voice choked with emotion.

Silas felt a wet patch on him, Seraphina’s tears.

Emotions surged within him.

He wanted to tell Seraphina—"She will be okay."

But he couldn’t say a word.

Behind the glass, Serena remained unconscious. Silas opened his mouth but could only close his eyes in the end.

A tear trickled down from the corner of his eye.

He could only hold Seraphina tighter, gently patting her back in silence.

At the door, a wheelchair was parked.

Julian Lawson watched the scene inside, his eyes rimmed with red.

Will she get better?

Perhaps only heaven knows.

...

Silas had a high fever.

His wounds hadn’t healed, and he had knelt for so long on Corvale, even getting drenched in rain.

Now his fever wouldn’t subside.

He still refused to leave the hospital bed and insisted on staying with Serena.

Many people came to visit them.

Bianca Lynch and Ethan Lynch visited routinely.

Sheila Jenkins would stay for long periods every day, often silently weeping in front of Serena.

Clara Huxley and June Hawthorne, along with Orion Hawthorne, stayed by as well.

Jasper Ford, Xander Linton, Isla Lawson, and Justin Jennings would often visit.

"Silas, you can’t go on like this; Serena will worry when she sees you," Clara said sadly.

"Yes, brother, your sister-in-law would want you to take care of yourself."

"Silas, Serena certainly wouldn’t want to see you this unwell; take care of yourself."

"Dad, get better soon..."

...

Many people advised Silas.

But only he knew.

In his feverish haze, he seemed to see her by his side, smiling at him.

He couldn’t tell if it was an illusion.

These days passed by.

On this day, he suddenly heard a quarrel at the door.

"He’s still feverish. Talking about it won’t help. I’ll deal with things over there."

"We can’t delay anymore; it’s been over a week. If we don’t solve it, the company will fall apart!"

"But now..."

Silas leaned against the wall, opened the door, and saw Raine with Orion Hawthorne.

"Mr. Hawthorne!"

"Brother!"

Both exclaimed. Orion immediately went over to support Silas.

With a slight frown, Silas glanced at Raine and said, "Come in and talk."

Raine looked uneasy but nodded. She glanced at Orion and followed him in.

Raine first glanced at Serena, feeling saddened, then looked at Silas sitting on the bed.

"What’s wrong with Aeon?" Silas asked directly before Raine could speak.

His voice was hoarse but carried authority.

Orion wanted to speak, but a look from Silas made him lower his head.

"Mr. Hawthorne, since Serena got injured, the company has been in a panic. Though Miss Hawthorne and the young master tried to stabilize things, given Serena’s critical condition, people are still afraid."

Worry etched on Raine’s face. "Especially these past few days, many have been poached. With Serena not recovering, some are wavering."

Raine took a few steps forward, anxiously looking at Serena’s side. "Aeon is Serena’s heart and soul; it can’t just fall apart..."

Silas frowned deeply, picked up his phone, and called Secretary Sawyer.

"Go to Aeon and wait for me," he said as soon as the call connected. "I’ll be there in about half an hour."

"Brother!" Orion’s eyes turned red. "You’re still injured and feverish!"

Silas said nothing, just glanced at Orion.

Orion knew he couldn’t stop him and sighed deeply, saying, "Wait for me then. I’ll get the car and wheelchair ready."

Silas pressed the bell for a nurse to remove the IV drip, nodded to Raine, and said, "You did well."

He looked towards Serena.

He must preserve her life’s work.

A nurse soon came to remove the needle. Silas, donning a coat, sat in the wheelchair and was pushed out by an orderly.

At the door, he found Seraphina waiting.

Beside her stood Sheila Jenkins.

"Dad, are you going to Mom’s company?" Seraphina asked, "I want to go with you."

Sheila hesitated but said, "There was some arguing outside, and Seraphina overheard."

Seraphina approached, her once round face now slightly thinner from injuries.

"I’m Mom’s daughter; I want to go to Aeon with you," Seraphina said firmly.

Silas reached out to touch Seraphina’s head and nodded, "Alright."

He nodded to Sheila and then, taking Seraphina with him, got into the car and headed to Aeon.

...

Aeon was already in chaos.

Some continued with the tasks Serena left, others were on the phone, or secretly doing who knows what.

The first to enter was Raine.

Seeing the chaos, Raine couldn’t help her anger.

"Even if Serena is hurt, you can’t be like this. The tasks she left still need to be done!" Raine said.

Someone immediately rolled their eyes, "Raine, you don’t own Aeon; you’re just an employee. Why are you so eager?"

"Yeah, the boss is seriously ill, almost gone, and we can’t look for another job?"
