Chapter 226: Chapter 226- became calm

Outside the door, Quinn, weary from travel, glanced coldly at the man standing there in a bathrobe, then looked at her coming out from behind him, noticing her somewhat suggestive attire.

Her beautiful face wore a sweet smile, radiating a lazy, alluring charm. It was clear she had just experienced a perfect love-making session, something only a woman fully immersed in happiness could unconsciously exude.

A self-deprecating smile flickered across his determined face before he turned and walked away without a word. Seeing the two of them standing there, so happy and affectionate, he suddenly felt like a fool.

He had missed her, thought about her for days, finally worked up the courage to see her. After landing, he rushed straight to her apartment, which he had found out about from Bonnie. He rang the doorbell for a long time but received no answer.

A wave of despair suddenly rose in his heart. Following his instincts, he had come here, only to see the scene he feared most.

Yes, he was afraid! He had always known that one day this moment would come, but he was still scared—afraid that the person who had given him four years of warmth would leave him. There had already been too many painful separations in his life, and he feared he no longer had the strength to bear them.

But it had happened... after all.

"Quinn! Quinn—"

Frozen in place, Cynthia saw him turn without a word, about to leave. She hurriedly called out his name, wanting to run after him, but when she looked down and saw the clothes she was wearing, she quickly stopped, stamping her feet in frustration.

Albert, frowning as he noticed her unease, closed the door and gently pulled her into his arms. He didn’t say anything—he simply held her, gradually calming her anxiety.

He knew that, at this moment, he had no position to say anything. Those four years she spent with that man, even if she didn’t have special feelings for him, were certainly an unforgettable experience.

Although Albert said nothing, inside, he was secretly pleased. The man’s appearance was just perfect. He had been wondering how to sever her ties with him, and now the man had essentially delivered himself to the doorstep. This method of meeting wasn’t so bad. He believed the man would understand exactly what had transpired between them.

"Albert..."

Cynthia murmured his name as she buried her face in his broad chest, wrapping her arms around his waist. His heartbeat was steady and calm, and the hand he placed on her back was warm and firm, gradually soothing her restless heart.

"Am I a bad woman? You see, I’ve hurt one man after another. I never wanted things to end up like this. I wanted to find a chance to talk things over with Quinn, I..."

She rambled, feeling miserable inside.

Albert gently ran his fingers through her long hair, letting out a sigh.

"Sweetheart, don’t think too much. Just get dressed and let’s go!"

He actually wanted to say, even if the whole world abandoned you, at least you’d have me. But then, he realized those words were too cheesy, far too unfit for the image of a noble man, so he abandoned the thought.

Still, he hoped that, in the eyes of every man in the world, she could be seen as a bad woman—as long as she was a treasure in his eyes. That way, no one could steal her from him. Having Vincent and Quinn already caused him enough stress—if another man appeared, he’d rather just crash into a wall.

With his reminder, Cynthia finally snapped out of it and started getting ready. Albert had suggested going with her to pick Vincent up from prison, but she refused. She felt it would be too awkward with the three of them meeting like that. She decided to go by herself.

On the way, she called Quinn several times, but either the calls were hung up or unanswered. She knew he was angry—anyone in his position would be. In the end, she had no choice but to give up.

It was her fault. She had let him down. She acknowledged that Quinn was a good man, but how could she love him? What was she supposed to do about that?

After reuniting with Albert, Cynthia realized that, in her world, there had always been just one person—he was the one she loved, he was the one she hated, the source of her sweetness and her pain...

She felt a bit dejected. Why had her life become such a mess?

But, dear Cynthia, who ever said life would be smooth sailing? Only those who have experienced life truly understand love. Only those who are loved understand what it means to cherish it. After going through all the storms and rain, one comes to appreciate the happiness that is hard-earned.

The weather today was exceptionally clear—bright and sunny, with a vast blue sky. She stood outside the detention center, looking up at the tall walls and the clear sky above. The sight made her eyes sting with tears.

Vince, Vince, the man who had given her so many years of warmth, the man who had gone to prison because of her—what kind of person would he be now?

The heavy gates of the detention center slowly opened, and a slim man holding a small bag walked out. He wore a plain white shirt and rough cloth pants, his hair cut extremely short. The once elegant and smiling face now carried the weight of resignation and indifference.

Cynthia stood at a distance, staring at this man she could hardly recognize. Tears streamed down her face uncontrollably. In that bright, glaring sunlight, she felt that her Vince seemed so far away.

Vincent saw her too, but he just stood there, motionless, with no expression on his thin face. His stillness didn’t mean he wasn’t feeling anything—no one knew the storm raging inside his heart at that moment.

Four years ago, when he learned of her death in the fire, devastated and utterly hopeless, he chose not to defend himself against the accusations. He even hoped the judge would sentence him to death, so he could die with her.

The one million he used to buy back her bracelet was borrowed from his older brother, but he hadn’t anticipated that someone would secretly film the scene. He didn’t want to drag his brother into this mess, especially since the Danny family still had one clean member. Besides, his mother also needed his older brother to look after her.

In the early days of his imprisonment, he was heartbroken, unable to sleep, and rapidly losing weight. All he could think about was her sweet face. But as time passed, he didn’t know why, but he gradually became calm.
