Chapter 246: Chapter 246- talk about personal matters

She remained silent, and after a long pause, she finally spoke with a cold tone.

"Sorry, Mr. Boston, but right now I’m discussing business with you, not personal matters."

Her indifferent response successfully angered him. He jumped up from his chair, gripping the phone tightly, unable to contain his shout.

"I want to talk about personal matters. What’s wrong with that?"

"Since that’s the case, I think we can’t continue this conversation. Goodbye."

Without another word, she ruthlessly hung up the phone. He was left holding the phone, saying "Hello?" into it for a long while, his frustration nearly making him throw the phone across the room.

Her tone made it seem like he was being unreasonable. Well, he admitted it—he *was* being unreasonable. He had lost control, but hadn’t she pushed him to this point?

He sank back into his chair in annoyance, then opened the drawer to his right. Inside the first compartment, there was a small, beautifully packaged box. He took it out with a cold expression, opening it to reveal a diamond ring that dazzled under the light.

This was the anniversary gift he had bought for her. He had specially commissioned it in France, custom-made to fit the exact size of her finger. The ring was crafted uniquely, with each diamond and gem set individually, creating a smooth surface and a more three-dimensional, delicate shape.

Maybe all diamond rings were beautiful, but the most important thing was that this one was one of a kind. Inside the band, he had had the initials "LTC" engraved, just for her.

But he never got the chance to give it to her. His long fingers brushed over the diamonds, and his mind involuntarily imagined her wearing the ring.

Then, with a change of expression, he snapped the box shut and tossed the ring into the trash. *Bonnie, I hope one day you meet a man who loves you as much as I have.*

A short while later, Cynthia’s call came through, her voice full of excitement.

"Hey, did Bonnie call you just now?"

After finishing her work, Cynthia couldn’t wait to call James. She had risked everything, even the threat of Albert’s anger, to get Bonnie to agree to call him.

She anxiously twirled her phone in her hand, still unsure how to handle Albert. He had warned her long ago not to dance in front of others.

Sigh,

she thought.

Can you believe I’m doing this for them? I’m putting everything on the line just to create a chance for them to communicate. Is it too much to ask for them to get back together?

"Yeah..."

James answered her distractedly, and immediately, Cynthia asked with a hint of mystery in her voice.

"How did it go? Are you coming back for the annual event?"

James rubbed his forehead, which had been throbbing nonstop, and calmly replied with three words.

"It fell apart."

"What? No way! What did you do, bro?"

Cynthia, no longer able to remain calm, started to complain anxiously. All the effort she put into this had led to nothing. If that was the result, it would really be a waste.

He sighed deeply, finally admitting his mistake.

"I messed up."

Cynthia was absolutely furious, replying with irritation.

"Don’t say that! Just tell me, are you coming to the annual event or not?"

They needed to meet face-to-face quickly—otherwise, no matter how deep the feelings were, time and distance would eventually wear them down.

By the way, recently, she noticed Bonnie was acting strange, but she couldn’t quite put her finger on what was wrong. She hoped that once he came back, he would instantly see the truth.

James, of course, could see right through her subtle thoughts. He gently refused her request.

"We’ll see. I’m really busy here."

Given the situation between the two of them, meeting up... might be better left undone.

"I don’t care!"

Before James could finish speaking, he was interrupted by Cynthia’s cold snort.

"I don’t care how busy you are, you have to come back! If you don’t, I’ll quit as the deputy station manager and go back to being a doctor!"

By the end, Cynthia was almost shouting. After that, she hung up the phone with a loud click, not caring about politeness. James could only helplessly shrug and go back to his work.

Time passed quickly, and before he knew it, the day of the annual event had arrived. Early in the morning, the conference room at the station was filled with mid-to-senior level executives, and Cynthia had already arrived. The room was waiting for Director Laurence to begin the meeting.

They waited for a long time before Bonnie hurriedly walked in through the door. She looked a little pale, and as she walked toward her seat, she bent slightly and smiled apologetically, explaining to everyone.

"Sorry, sorry, I’m a bit late. I wasn’t feeling well."

Sigh... Her morning sickness had been ongoing, and every day, she woke up feeling nauseous. She had already thrown up at home, but just as she stepped into the office, the discomfort hit again. She had to rush to the bathroom and struggled for a while before coming back.

She lowered her head as she rushed to her seat. Just as she sat down, she glanced over with her peripheral vision and noticed someone sitting in the seat next to hers. That seat was always his, and she and Cynthia were used to sitting on either side of him. But he had been gone for so long...

She was puzzled, but when she looked up, her heart nearly stopped. Not because of anything else, but because sitting there was none other than their handsome, charming, and charismatic James Boston, the station director. 𝕗𝚛𝚎𝚎𝐰𝗲𝗯𝗻𝚘𝚟𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝕞

She stood there, dazed, unable to tell whether this was a dream or reality. Lately, she had been dreaming about him every night. Sometimes she would dream of him smiling gently at her, and other times she would dream of him glaring at her with a look of deep sorrow, cursing her:

Bonnie, you are such a heartless woman.

The moment their eyes met, she saw the cold indifference in his dark pupils. She lowered her gaze, a wave of inexplicable sadness sweeping over her. Wasn’t this the scene she had longed for? Why, then, did her heart feel so heavy at this moment?

Her complexion, already pale, became even more so at the shock of his sudden appearance. Her normally sharp and clear mind had turned into a muddled mess, to the point where she forgot she was supposed to be leading the meeting.

"Bonnie, are we continuing the meeting or not? Why do you look like a jilted wife as soon as you see Mr. Boston? Did he owe you something?" Anna’s sharp voice echoed through the large conference room. The people attending the meeting were all upper-level managers from the TV station, well-known figures. Anna’s arrogant taunting, aimed directly at Bonnie, went unchallenged.

This wasn’t just about her; rumors had been circulating ever since Anna took a few days off to return to Hong Kong. According to Anna, she had gone back to discuss marriage arrangements with the Boston family, and James had stayed in Hong Kong to prepare for the wedding.

Cynthia shot Anna a cold glance, then retorted sharply, "I think Bonnie isn’t a jilted wife, but you, Anna, are the shrew!"

So far, Cynthia was the only one who dared to stand up to Anna. She had heard the rumors that Anna had spread, and after privately questioning Diago, she knew there was no wedding planned.

Bonnie gave a somewhat embarrassed smile.

"Sorry for taking up everyone’s time. Let’s continue with today’s meeting—"

Before she could finish speaking, a wave of discomfort hit her stomach. She quickly closed her mouth, furrowing her brow to endure the sensation. Just as she was about to speak again, it felt as though the contents of her stomach might spill out. She pressed one hand to her stomach and the other to her mouth, rushing out as the people behind Wilson hurriedly followed.

At the moment she stood up to leave, another figure, who had been sitting silently and expressionless the entire time, also rushed to follow. The entire meeting room was left with the sound of surprised gasps and stunned onlookers.

There had always been rumors that Bonnie and Mr. Boston shared a special bond, though it had never been confirmed by either party. But now, after witnessing Mr. Boston’s worried and anxious expression, along with his hasty movement to push the chair aside, anyone who still doubted their relationship would no longer believe that there was nothing between them.

When Anna saw James rush out after Bonnie, she couldn’t help but sneer at Bonnie in frustration.

"What’s this all about? Acting like a delicate flower, trying to win someone’s sympathy!"

Cynthia, who had been watching James and Bonnie leave with a thoughtful expression, raised an eyebrow upon hearing Anna’s words and replied sharply, "If you’re so capable, why don’t you get yourself in such a state to win my brother’s sympathy? But I bet that even if you were at death’s door, he wouldn’t care!"

Once she said that, Cynthia realized that her sharp tongue was something no one could challenge. She wasn’t normally this biting, but if someone provoked her, her words could make them feel utterly embarrassed—just like Anna at this moment.

Anna, now furious, had her face shifting between shades of pale and green. She couldn’t lash out at Cynthia, though. After all, she was the princess of the Boston family and Diago’s precious darling.
