Chapter 264: Chapter 264- be happy again?

But she also knew that he had always been very filial, almost completely obedient to Diago and his mother. The only time he was stubborn and insisted on his own thoughts was with her. She remembered how his mother had caused quite a stir over this matter, but he had silently resisted them. In the end, his mother couldn’t change his mind and reluctantly agreed.

"I secretly learned it when I was studying in Miami!"

When he said this, a glimmer of pride and a touch of playfulness flashed in his eyes, making his expression suddenly come to life.

She couldn’t help but feel her heart flutter, but to hide her emotions, she deliberately snorted.

"It’s a pity you’re not a chef with such skills!"

What was going on? After four years of being together, she had never felt this way. How come, after being apart for so many days, their reunion made her find him incredibly charming? Was this what they called learning to cherish someone only after losing them?

His smile widened, and he even leaned forward a little closer to her.

"What’s there to regret? I can be your personal chef in the future. As long as I can make the woman I love happy, then this skill won’t go to waste or be a pity!"

Bonnie blushed at his words about "the woman I love," and her heart raced. To be honest, in the four years they had been together, he rarely said such romantic things, but she was the type to hide her feelings.

"Enough with the nonsense, Boston. A chef like you is too expensive for me to hire!"

She said this as she picked up the empty bowls from the table and walked toward the kitchen. She had always had the good habit of washing dishes, cultivated from her time dining with the Laurence family. To avoid being talked about by Laurence’s mother and Miya, she always volunteered to do various chores.

He quickly got up to take the bowls from her.

"I’ll do it! You’re a special protected person now!"

Then, before she could react, he leaned down and kissed her cheek, happily carrying the bowls to the kitchen. She was so angry that she stomped her feet behind him.

When James finished washing the dishes and came out of the kitchen, he saw her standing there, holding his shirt. Her little face was puffed up in a cute pout as she said to him:

"I’ve dried your shirt for you. You can leave now!"

She really was a heartless woman who burned bridges after crossing them! He was so angry that he nearly gave himself internal injuries, but he clenched his teeth, not showing it on his face. Instead, he spoke in a pitiful tone.

"Such heavy rain outside, and you’re really going to chase me away?"

"We... we can’t be in the same room like this, it’s not appropriate..."

A hint of hesitation flashed in Bonnie’s eyes. In reality, she didn’t want to force him out; she just couldn’t face the ambiguous and unclear feelings between them. She wanted some time to think it through.

James could barely contain his anger.

"What’s so inappropriate about it? I already told you I didn’t sign that divorce agreement. We’re still legally married. Should I announce it to the whole world tomorrow, huh?"

He had never wanted to hide their relationship. It was she who insisted on keeping it private, talking about how "secret marriages were trendy." At the time, he had indulged and spoiled her, accepting any request she made without question, agreeing to her wishes.

But now, she had climbed to where she was through her own ability, and everyone could see her competence. Most importantly, she was now carrying his child. They couldn’t go on like this forever, without any recognition or status, right? Of course, it was she who refused to give him any official status.

Cough cough.

"No!"

Hearing that he might announce it, Bonnie immediately became anxious. She pulled his sleeve in a panic, quickly retracting her hand that had been holding onto his shirt. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦

He glanced at her small hand gripping his sleeve, raised an eyebrow, and without hesitation, swept her up in his arms, heading toward the bedroom. As he walked, he casually asked her,

"So, are you kicking me out, or should I stay here for the night?"

She was always like this, unable to hide any of her emotions, which made it so easy for him to see what she feared most. Then, he would use that fear to threaten her. Don’t blame him for being too wicked; blame her for being so stubborn and difficult. She was already showing signs of a baby bump, yet she was still acting like this.

"Where are you taking me?"

Bonnie struggled nervously in his arms. His sudden forceful behavior made her uneasy.

"To sleep!"

He threw the two words at her with an undeniable, domineering tone, leaving no room for rejection. She started to relent.

"You can stay, but... you have to sleep in the guest room."

What he had done to her earlier had left her flustered and her heart racing. She didn’t want to continue down that path. He was always so forward, unable to keep his hands to himself, and who knew what might happen if they slept in the same bed again.

Before she could say more, he gently placed her on the large bed, lying down beside her, his arm reaching around to pull her close.

"Didn’t you say we can’t do anything? Don’t worry, I’m not so desperate that I can’t control myself..."

Bonnie turned her head and glared at him. After what he had just done, didn’t that count as being desperate? He helplessly smiled and gave in.

"Fine, I’ll sleep in the guest room."

As long as he stayed, as long as he remained by her side, that was enough. After all, she slept deeply at night, and if he climbed into her bed in the middle of the night, she wouldn’t even notice.

Bonnie watched him leave with such a sly smile, and a sense of unease crossed her mind. However, she couldn’t pinpoint exactly what felt off, so she just shrugged it off, quickly washed up, and got into bed.

Before falling asleep, she remembered the note Carl had left her, with the words wishing her happiness in this lifetime. Feeling a pang in her heart, she took out her phone and sent him a message: "Brother, I will be happy, and I hope you will be happy too!"

After sending the message, she suddenly realized that telling Carl she would be happy meant she had forgiven that man, didn’t it? Thinking this, she quickly tossed her phone aside and buried her head in the pillow, drifting off to sleep.

In Thailand, the same dark night, the same heavy rain pouring down. A slender man in black stood by the floor-to-ceiling window, staring out at the torrential downpour. His eyes were filled with a deep gloom, matching the dark, overcast night outside.

He tightly gripped his phone, the words on it stabbing at his heart. She said she would be happy, and she even wished him happiness. Ha, wish him happiness? Could someone like him ever find happiness? After losing the woman he loved most, could he ever be happy again?
