Chapter 507 - 506: Perfect Coordination

"Why are those Magmar here?" Steven asked, looking at the two Magmar approaching from the distance.

This wasn't Steven's first time climbing Mt. Chimney; he was a frequent visitor in search of oddly shaped volcanic rocks.

He was quite familiar with Magmar, who preferred high-temperature environments. Although the temperature on the mountain slope was high, it wasn't an ideal place for them.

Moreover, Magmar typically fed on magma minerals in volcanoes or other volcanic creatures, so they rarely descended the mountain to hunt.

"They have a strange expression on their faces. They look a bit frightened and somewhat irritated," Cain observed, keeping his gaze fixed on the two approaching Magmar.

While Cain and Steven pondered the situation, Skorupi and Lairon seemed excited. Although they had fought a lot on their way up, their opponents hadn't been challenging. Finally, two Pokémon appeared who seemed worthy of a fight.

"Let's first control the situation. You take one, and I'll handle the other!" Steven suggested.

Cain nodded.

"Skorupi, use Hone Claws and Toxic Spikes!"

Two of the moves Skorupi had recently learned were put to real combat use after just one night of training.

The move Hone Claws was simpler, as Skorupi had received tips from Weavile the night before. By rubbing its pincers together, their shine increased slightly.

Hone Claws is a move that boosts attack power and accuracy.

However, mastering the Toxic Spikes move wasn't as advanced; Skorupi scattered some poisonous spikes sporadically along the path the Magmar would traverse.

Although there weren't many, given the Magmar's current state, they were unlikely to notice the spikes.

"Lairon, use Stealth Rock and Hidden Power!" Steven commanded.

Several invisible rocks appeared along the Magmar's path. Whether intentional or not, the invisible rocks complemented Skorupi's toxic spikes, exposing the latter.

If the Magmar continued moving forward, they were bound to step on the spikes.

Noticing the smile on Steven's face, Cain knew it was intentional.

Although the two had never fought together before, they already displayed seamless coordination.

A perfect coordination!

Next, a blue energy orb materialized in front of Lairon. Lairon's Hidden Power move was Water-type. Having a Water-type Hidden Power greatly compensated for Lairon's weakness against Fire-type Pokémon.

The two Magmar still wore panicked expressions, but noticing Skorupi and Lairon blocking their path, their temperament, typical of Fire-types, flared up.

Having been driven away elsewhere, they thought they could vent their frustration on this slope. How could they not handle these two Pokémon?

It was evident the two Magmar had been together for a long time. Even in their panicked state, their coordination remained intact.

Two large bursts of flames shot out from the Magmar's mouths, aimed at Skorupi and Lairon.

It was the move Flame Burst, an attack with a wide range that caused fiery splashes, damaging nearby Pokémon.

However, before the flames could reach Skorupi and Lairon, Lairon raised its Water-type energy orb to meet the flames.

Boom!

Sssss!

The clash between the flames and the Water energy produced a hissing sound. The surrounding temperature noticeably increased.

Seeing their attack fail, the Magmar pressed forward.

Boom!

But the result was that they collided directly with Lairon's invisible rocks. Although they broke through some of them, they couldn't pass completely.

Staggering, the Magmar didn't understand what had happened. After adjusting themselves slightly, they tried to maneuver around the rocks, but to avoid colliding with more invisible rocks, they slowed down.

In doing so, they stepped on Skorupi's toxic spikes. The poisoning effect activated, and although they were Fire-types, the poison was still quite potent.

Eventually, they noticed the spikes on the ground and slowed down even further to avoid them. At this speed, they no longer posed a threat to Skorupi and Lairon.

"Skorupi, use Shadow Ball!" Cain ordered.

In this situation, Skorupi's newly acquired ranged attack proved useful; at such a slow pace, the Magmar were easy targets.

"Lairon, use Stone Edge!" Steven added.

Both orders were given almost simultaneously.

Compared to the Ghost-type move Shadow Ball, the Rock-type move Stone Edge was not only stronger in power but also super effective against Fire-types.

Moreover, Stone Edge was the same type as Lairon, further boosting its power.

Here, the advantage of a well-resourced trainer became apparent. Even if Pokémon had the same level and potential, those who received better resources tended to excel.

Steven's Pokémon had better move combinations and selections compared to Cain's.

After all, Steven could obtain any TM he wanted, while Cain relied more on luck.

Boom!

Boom!

The Shadow Ball struck one Magmar, and Lairon's Stone Edge hit the other. With the double effectiveness of the Rock-type move, the Magmar attacked by Lairon suffered significant damage.

Despite enduring Skorupi and Lairon's attacks, the Magmar barely made it past the invisible rocks and toxic spikes.

"Cain, be careful! Lairon, use Earthquake," Steven warned.

Cain quickly understood. "Skorupi, jump and use Venoshock!"

Skorupi, with its great attack power, wasn't going to fall behind. Additionally, the Magmar were poisoned, doubling the power of the Venoshock move.

In terms of data, Venoshock, which normally had a power of 65, doubled to 130.

Shockwaves from Lairon's Earthquake began forming around it, causing smaller rocks to hover in the air.

The strongest shockwave expanded outward from a central point toward the Magmar.

Following Cain's instructions, Skorupi jumped quickly over the Magmar to avoid the Earthquake.

The Magmar weren't so fortunate. With their double weakness to Ground-type moves, the multi-target Earthquake caused significant damage.

Skorupi, upon landing, capitalized on the momentum from the Earthquake and charged toward one of the Magmar.

Venoshock struck one of them!

Skorupi's sharp eyes focused on the Magmar, targeting a weak point in its body. The instability of the Magmar after the Earthquake gave Skorupi the perfect opportunity to exploit a weak spot.

The Sniper ability activated!

One of the Magmar lost its ability to fight.
